I must laugh with you on this. It is not easy this road you travel though you talk much as to it being easy, but... i think the road (for now) has more chosen you. Why?... you are a prophet of sorts, uncomfortable or difficult that might be to wear or think of that mantle to carry on your shoulders. Carry it lightly, yes, and honest as you can be... but ...provoke.
I particularly appreciate your comments through Niger... as certainly frustrating to watch NGO sloth. I once shut down my biz to spend 3 yrs in ecuador to see and do and assist in 'community development' and it was more eye opening than i could have thought possible in terms of the corrupt, self-serving practices of NGO's and in my case, working under authority of 'missionaries'..(in my case the Evangelical Covenant Church). While it was shocking to discover their aristocratic attitudes and lifestyles, what is perhaps most difficult is to see the blind trust given to these groups, be it NGO or Mission, blind, giving trust given by folks back home and complete anger to even think to consider some sense of accountability or thought as to the 'profit' or effectiveness of these efforts. It is amazing perhaps that we are so selfish and profit centered at home in our own lives but for the sake perhaps of 'feeling good' about ourselves, we wantonly give in these ways w/ no thought as to the effect of the result of our 'good intentions.' ...our 'good intentions' perhaps therefore are less 'good' than truly self-serving in perhaps the worst way, but for which we are still 'responsible' i think.... but these are just my thoughts.
