The Pub Crawler commented about Cell Phone Battery Problem with GPRS, On Sunday January 28th, 2007 09:56:00 PM
Andy,
I had a similar problem while in Bangkok. It's the bluetooth that kills the battery. I have a Motorola V3 RAZR phone and it drains the battery but never actually dies. Maybe a new phone? Or even just try a new battery and see if it holds?

I am not sure about Thailand or India but I do know that outside the USA if you have a prepaid cell phone card all incoming things are free. This is most likely not true in a roaming situation but I have a prepaid phone from Rio here in Rio and if someone calls or sends me a text it is free. I also know that a text directly from the network you are in is also free. Only way to find out is to check the balance before and after you receive something...

The Pub Crawler commented about Beaches near Clark Airport, On Wednesday October 26th, 2005 07:16:00 AM
The only downside to these airlines is the cost to get to some of the airports. I had a flight from Rome to Paris one way for 30 euro. I had to pay another 24 euro in bus fare to get to and from the respective airports. it was still a lot cheaper than your normal airfare but it must be taken into account. I am sure it is a lot cheaper outside of Western Europe.
I must say that I love Ryanair as they are just as good if not better in the service department as any other airline. If you catch the right times you can get a free flight just paying taxes. Hearing that they get paid for landing in certain places makes the free or 1 euro fares make sense to me now.

I would suggest making a random email address that you use soley for blogging. Maybe make one like xzthf@yahoo.com or something like that no one knows about and will never find. This eliminates the need to remove signatures and all that.
Hope this helps!

By far the best I have found is phpwebhosting.com
They have $9.95 unlimited everything on Linux servers. It has SQL, PHP and all that stuff that you need. They have been in business a while and know the deal. I strongly suggest you check them out. I use them for my site.

It would not let me answer on google answers for some reason. This is the RDA Calculator we used in my Nutrition Class in college:

You put in your dietary intake and tells you where you met, overdid, and missed in respect to RDA. I had to use it for a school assignment.

Yes it does resemble okra. We have a lot of it here in the USA or at least in Atlanta/The South. It would be a good help for the malnutrition problem since the greener the plant the more nutrient dense.

I have read in my research that some coutries in your area will not allow you to enter if you have the Israel stamp in your passport. I read this in the "Rough Guides: First Time Around the World." You may want to use your second passport so that you will not have any problems at the border. I am not 100% sure how true this is but I thought I would share it with you.

GSM is the cell phone standard that all of the world except the USA uses. I know T-Mobile is the one carrier in the USA that uses GSM. So their phones should work for this. Just make sure the free incoming calls include while you are OUT of the country. To answer your question of paying the bill, you can set it up to use your debit/credit card to pay the bill automatically each month of you can do it yourself online. This is what I currently do with my Nextel phone (which only works in the USA unless I buy the international phone). Hope this helps hobo!

I swear by Olympus cameras. I have owned three and I got lots of good use out of them. I currently have a D-580 and it works well. The last two also worked well and never any problems. I sold them on ebay to upgrade to my newer one for better quality photos and longer battery life. Maybe you should try one?

I have been using Wikipedia for a while and it is great. So much better than Encarta IMHO. Looks like the convention is on my Birthday, August 4th. I am curious to know what your average cost per day is in Eastern Europe versus Western Europe. I have always heard it is cheaper but I would like to see some hard numbers. Please post if you get a chance!

Amen! I am currenty a tourist by need and not desire. I am paying off my debts and saving enough money to start my life as a real traveler. College has managed to slaughter my finances and I am currently burying that hole. My projections look like I will be hitting the road in roughly March 2008. If you are still on the road (which I am sure you will be) we should meet up somewhere along the way. I will be going to Europe first to see all the touristy stuff just to say I have been there then I am off to the better places. Only time will tell. Happy Trails!

Use Picasa. It's free software from Google.com that allows you to sort your pictures into "albums" and it will generate webpages for you and resize all the photos. All you have to do is name the files and put them in a folder. It has many other handy features worth looking at as well. Check out my site for examples in the "Pictures" section.

Here is my take on the laptop lubrication. You have a few options here. I would stay away from WD40. It is flammable (lpatops tend to get hot). You could use knife oil. I am not sure of the exact name but it is used on a wetstone to sharpen knives. Another options is getting a drop of motor oil. Either of these on the hinges should help. Of course, you could get another (cheap) laptop when you go back to Thailand. I hear there is a huge market for knock-off computers that work just as well (of course this is a rumor I have heard). Good Luck

The Pub Crawler commented about ELECTRONIC GUIDEBOOKS, On Monday February 7th, 2005 10:09:00 PM
I just wanted to comment on a couple of things about your electronic guide books. You do NOT need OCR software to scan...you can always use PDF and there is free PDF maker software out there if you look hard enough.
You answered the google issue in the post. They are PAYING to scan which means they are buying the redistribution rights for the books. Also some of the copyrights expire so they can scan a lot without issue.
Here is another round-about solution to your scanning problem. If the book is good enough you can buy it. Then search the net for a pirated copy of the same e-book. As long as you own the book, the "pirated" copy is legal (as long as it is the same edition, etc). It is the same as owning a CD of music and having it on your iPod.
I hope this helps!
