Glad to hear that you ignore fox. Earlier this year I took advantage of a "grand opening" rate for a new Ibis in Bangkok ($16/night) ... shiny and clean with a friendly, helpful staff and a superb Eastern/Western breakfast buffet. BUT (as in big one), the only English speaking news network was fox, and this was during Obama's European tour. I moved to an older, dirtier, more expensive place just to recover. Was surprised to learn that the president was actually well accepted in Europe. Somehow, I thought he had given away our entire wealth and security while acting as a barbaric oaf (and Mrs. Obama, well, what had she not done and what was that she was wearing?). The experience did help me better understand some of the things going on today ... a daily dose of that insanity might cause anyone to lose touch.
I e-mailed my congressional representative this morning. Among other things, I proposed that perhaps it is time to think outside the FOX! Suspect that will go right over his head, though.
Continue enjoying the Philippines. Thanks for sharing that enjoyment. If back in Manila, you might consider this place to stay ... Pension Natividad:

Have not been there since 2004, but, really enjoyed it then and, as this reviewer notes, it was/is the "official" favorite of the Peace Corps (with all that entails ... inexpensive, reasonably secure, clean. Government inspected and approved, although not for embassy staff ... too ... well, you know, a bit too plebian). And, if you wish to have them, your expat conversations might even be a bit more enjoyable. Plus, it is highly unlikely you will see any small girls in tow sans wedding rings.
