Wow. I'm amazed and actually overwhelmed. Robert- I wouldn't have seen those as missing, I swear I saw them, but good eye!

I'm looking forward to hobohideout.com getting going in full swing, it should be a great search engine!

Andy,
I appriciate your commitment to value for your money, that's what always makes reading your posts so interesting to me. I wish more travelers out there would do the same, then we wouldn't have such a horrible inflation rate on tourist destinations. Of course, if everyone were as good as you are, then we wouldn't have 'tourist' at all.

Hey Andy,
thanks for sharing your treck to eat well. I always have trouble sticking to my plan when traveling, not because I'm afraid of eating in the open air markets, but because I want to eat EVERYTHING in the open air markets. Alas, I'm working on learning to say 'no'!

Hey Andy,
I've not found a bag worth reporting on, I had one a long time ago but life stoped me from traveling and it was given away. I am, however, traveling again and I look forward to hearing your reviews and seeing what bags come up highest! Thanks for the research!

Congratulations on your new site! I agree with anonymous about the alexa being a bit skewed, however they are the seeming standard in the industry. Google PR has also been important when I've been looking to monitize a site, however it's ultimately the combination of the two- depending on what the advertiser is looking for.

Some towns in the United States have returned to requiring uniforms on their students, particularly larger urban centers that have gang problems to deal with. I agree that this is a good thing, it levels the playing field to some extent among students, however (like in your photo) students always find ways to personalize their uniforms and still make them unique. So, in the end, I'm mixed over whether uniforms actually have a marked improvement on student behavior and academic progress- I've not yet seen any convencing statistics.

BTW- BEAUTIFUL photo! I hope those girls got such a lovely one of you *grin*

I think that walking out of a restaurant when I figured out that I coudn't afford it for what I'd be getting was my first step towards true financial independence. I was horribly embarrassed, didn't enjoy the cheap food I ate at the next place, but my pocketbook was saved and I could travel another day. The next day I was very proud of myself but I still find it hard to buck the norm even when I know I have to.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about your new method of making travel money with photos on the internet. I do love the rush of a new town, but I agree with you that truly getting your feet and feeling comfortable is worth taking mroe time in a new place.

Wow, full circle! What is it like to be back at the place where it all started?

I was kind of disappointed though, I expected there to be more meat in this post about how to save money while traveling. I guess, however, that that requires individual ingenuity and creativity.

Hey Andy,
Thanks so much for pointing out that the ideal that people have of just setting up a blog and having the $$$ roll in is not going to work most of the time. First of all, you actually have to know how to write in a way that a large group of people will find interesting. For example, your posts are wide and varied and have a very specific tone that makes the typos unremarkable. You also have 10+ years experience.
Second, people have to actually have an understanding of how the internet works and how to find and market to a community there.
Most people aren't willing to take the time and energy to learn how to make the money online. Then, even more of us just sit around and remain satisfied with the status quo.
Thanks for the great rant!

Suz commented about Working Online or Offline, On Thursday March 27th, 2008 11:05:00 PM

Andy,
This was very interesting, especially about your experiences working with different time zones. I'm currently living/working in the Pacific US time zone which I'm finding to be about the least productive time zone I've ever lived in. Most of the world is not on their business hours during about half of mine and when I'm making business calls I always have to double check the zone I'm calling so I don't propose a partnership with someone who is eating breakfast with their family.

Thanks though for the listing of how you're avoiding the temptations to waste time. Also, it was interesting to me how you're finding people to be less open than they were even 10 years ago.

Thanks as always for the interesting insights.

Interesting conversion amounts, I especially liked how you converted volume to weight depending on whether the person was a 'book person' or not. Having just moved our VERY bookish household, I'd venture to say that perhaps you're estimating a little on the low side for weight there.
Thanks as always for the great stuff!
