A year ago, I got back from a wonderful volunteer travel experience in Ghana. I'm curious why you don't think volunteer travel is a good idea? It seems from my reading your Ghana posts that you're spending a lot of time on the logistics of travel, rather than getting to know the country and the people who live there -- the reverse is true in a (good) volunteer travel experience.

I have been reading your website for about a year now, and have gained a lot of information not just about the different countries but for daily living in my own (USA). I read every single newsletter that comes my way, and even if they are wordy it is always worth it to finish reading.
I like your brash writing and think it helps understanding.
