A year ago, I got back from a wonderful volunteer travel experience in Ghana. I'm curious why you don't think volunteer travel is a good idea? It seems from my reading your Ghana posts that you're spending a lot of time on the logistics of travel, rather than getting to know the country and the people who live there -- the reverse is true in a (good) volunteer travel experience.
