I did a test of the cFares mentioned above for a route I frequently use, BPN to CGK, but the offered price was at least ten times more than what I am used to paying... I am not impressed.

Rune commented about Sending an ATM Bank Card Overseas, On Thursday August 7th, 2008 10:23:00 PM
Certain "offshore" banks (ie. banks outside your home country) do send ATM cards to any address worldwide. You just specify the address, and they send it anywhere.
For example, I have an account in Griffon Bank located in Dominica (and my home country is not Dominica), and they sent me the ATM card by FedEx to Indonesia for 70 USD. Great service!

According to this site: www.International-Fuel-Prices.com, gasoline in Togo was 85 US cents a litre in November 2004. The cheapest gasoline in Africa is (was?) in Libya, with only 9 US cents a litre, hehe.

Rune commented about I Dream of Safe Drinking Water for Travel, On Thursday June 28th, 2007 06:08:00 AM
Andy, Do you drink the water straight from the tap in Togo and elsewhere?
There are mainly 3 ways to drink tap water: straight from the tap, boiled, or filtered.
I think i prefer the boiled option, for example with an immersion heater, as such a device can also be used for taking a hot bath.
I have also been thinking about using a ceramic filter (can be taken anywhere and is not dependent on electricity) for my next trip, but they are quite heavy and can not be used for other purposes.

There are tons of similar trips going on out there, seems like it is very popular to take a vehicle from Europe and drive down Africa. Just check out this website, which lists some of the trips: The Africa Overland Network
I think most people use their vehicle as accomodation, so traveling with a vehicle doesn't nessecarily be that much more expensive.

If somebody is willing to bring the package to Oslo, Norway, I could bring it with me from there to West Africa, but not until September though. That's when I will resign from my current job and start my new career as a hobo traveler, hehe. Great chance to visit West Africa.

Hello Andy, Try this website, it's very useful: www.embassypages.com
It contains addresses for 22,000 embassies around the world (I have it in an excel file actually...).
