My now 27-year-old Domke photographer jacket has a thin strip of rough material on the top of each shoulder -- which keeps bag straps from slipping off of the shoulder. An earlier post mentioned Velcro all you would need is one part of the pair of Velcro strips -- perhaps the loop part of the pair -- just the something that has enough roughness to keep the strap from slipping. Again, a very thin strip is all that is needed.

Usually I can find whatever I want about a war-zone by going to globalsecurity.org -- but the information on Haiti seemed to be 1 or 2 years old. I did find the following article which, although it must be "taken with a grain of salt" because it is so uniformly anti-US, might be of interest: http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/16-us-repression-of-haiti-continues/

As frequently seems to be the case with war-zones, there appear to be almost no neutral articles. Either the UN force is made up of angels or devils -- take your choice.

Andy:
I'd like you to try to determine how the citizens of Cite Soleil treat "the poor," "the crazy," and "the retarded" that is, how do they treat those amongst them who have the most problems with which to contend.

Compare -- and contrast -- everything.

I'm somewhat surprised to learn that I, a daily reader of Andy's notes, am in a minority. I have lived in much of Europe, in much of Asia, and in almost every US state -- and I value Andy's broad INTERNAL data base which allows him to compare and contrast "apples" and "oranges". I enjoy his opinions and his efforts to resolve contradictions. He doesn't strike me as mean-spirited he just "calls a spade a spade".

Whether Andy encourages it or not, I believe there is a lot to be gained from becoming a daily reader.

Clearly it must be a generational thing, as I subscribe to several blogs and enjoy READING the short essays. I don't "get" Facebook -- except that I do subscribe to one Facebook RSS feed that pushes -- again -- short essays by a specific writer -- my way.

It would appear to me that the world soon will be divided into those with and those without the patience to digest a book. At some point this will go one more step - and the world will be divided into those very few with and those very many without the patience to develop original thoughts into coherent theses.

Andy-Hobo-Traveler occupies a unique space, providing very short essays that conceptualize one man's perceptions of everyday life within a world-wide context.
