i just got a laptop and i was shocked to discover the same thing. just driving around San Francisco you can stop your car at any point and get googlemaps on your laptop if you're lost.
but i also have a question for you, andy. you mention here that it's "not as good as Asia or South America". is there lots of wireless there as well? i ask because i'm debating whether or not to bring my laptop on an indefinitely long trip (about a year) to south america. i'll be travelling super light with basically a day pack and it may be a lot of added stress. on the other hand i'll have a digital camera and it could be great for updating my blog.
