Mira commented about Damn the Pharmaceutical Companies, On Monday August 31st, 2009 05:29:58 PM

This is the problem with the health industry in America. It shouldn't be an industry at all. Medical treatment and wellness shouldn't come down to what someone can afford. America's fighting this battle of health care and insurance coverage and it's become an ugly war. I think it is just wrong. I will pray for your father. I will pray for America.

Mira commented about Swimming Pool Fungus Cure, On Thursday August 20th, 2009 08:23:23 AM

Andy,

Is it even possible to get rid of them once and for all without future outbreaks? I got them in Costa Rica and they followed me over to India. When I finally sought treatment the doctor told me it was a fungus that lives in your skin, kind of like a yeast or something, that you have forever and it only blossoms in hot, damp conditions. My boyfriend gets them every year during the summer, despite treatment...
In Spanish they call them hongos....and in the Philippines they call them up-ups....

XOXO,
Mira

HAHa,
They probably are. I do not have a facebook, and I sometimes feel like I am the only person in the world who doesnt. My classmates talk about facebook and sending things through facebook all the time. Our school use to communicate through e-mails, and now my school only has a facebook, and you can't even send out emails. I use to be really involved in the school, but now I can't be because i don't have facebook. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I have really started to hate that email thing. Usually, I generally do like the person if I give them my email and I do want them to write to me. It's weird though, that sometimes I will just receive a random email from someone like 10 months later. Yesterday I just got an e-mail from a guy who I met at that hostel in Guatemala. It was totally freakish. But on the other hand I know I do the same thing to people. Life is busy. We cannot all be internet bums...

Mira commented about Burning Paper in Taiwan, On Wednesday September 17th, 2008 08:11:00 AM

I just had a class on this so, here we go. It is more of a Daoist practice than a Buddhist practice here in Taiwain, or should I say popular religion because it doesn't really fit anywhere nicely? At any rate, the paper money with gold is burnt as offerings to the gods. It is expected that if a person burns money to the gods, the gods will give them real money back. However, there is also paper money with silver on it. This is burnt for what they call hungry ghosts, or gui. The gui run around and mess things up sometimes, like lost souls or so forth. People burn the silver money to appease the hungry ghosts so they will not start messing things up in their life, or house or shops. In order for the money to get to heaven or out of our physical world it must be burn, and kind of the vapors are what the gods or ghosts can feed on, or spend.

Mira commented about Bangkok Airport is for Cows, On Friday September 12th, 2008 09:27:00 PM

I tell you Andy, you have to find the cooshy chairs. They are upstairs somewhere and past behind the food court. The cooshy chairs are kind of hidden, but there is a whole room of them, cooshy chairs and carpeted floors. It is seemed pretty empty too when I was there, probably because no one can find it.

Mira commented about Philippine Bag Makers Interviews, On Tuesday July 29th, 2008 10:04:00 PM

Oh Philippino factories...With all this talk I have a story for you. My mother use to design children's costumes. She would make big patterns and send them off to a factory in the Philippines. After a while her work invited her to the Philippines to tour the factory. The "factory" was an old aircraft that had been converted into a sweat shop. It was about 120 degrees F in there. When she asked her tour guides (the upper level executives of the factory) if the workers got hot the lady told her, "They don't get hot. Their pores are different then ours." It freaked my mom out a little bit. Hahaha.

The one thing that horrifies Wade about you was your toothbrush hygiene. In your Thailand shower video you spray your toothbrush all around and Wade was totally grossed out. He won't even keep his toothbrush in the bathroom because he thinks feces particles will float around and land on it. haha

Mira commented about Sandals versus Shoes for Travel, On Saturday July 12th, 2008 10:57:00 AM

I have a pair of cloth tennis shoes which I have found really good for travel. I bought a pair in Portugal for about $5, a white pair in China for about $1 and they usually last me about a year. I just bought a new pair of black ones in the USA for about $10, but I think they are perfect. They are not as bulky as regular sneakers so they are easy to put in my bag and don't take up space. and, for women, they look a little nicer with a skirt than regular reeboks. and you can buy these things anywhere in the world.

I was wondering how Chris was going to fair in his travels with you. He is just really sweet and nice. I think it is really hard for nice people to be rude and tell people to go away. It is hard to barter with people because you have to be aggressive. In America we are not taught how to be aggresive. Oh well...

Also, on your blog page the words on the side bar are smooshing into the words in your posts...donīt know if you have noticed that...or maybe it is just this computer.
Have fun!

Hi Andy,
I feel tickled pink that you mentioned me..like a movie star...haha...and Andy, don't worry, I still don't like you...It is too bad about these tourist businesses. I know you probably don't go around buying pretty things, but these people offer some rough prices to tourists..$100 for a piece of fabric that makes these indigenousladies skirt...now if it really costs that much none of these ladies would even be thinking about wearing these skirts...ridiculous

Wow Andy, I guess I have started reading your blog, maybe I miss your incessant talking, coming to my hotel every morning....
Did you notice all of the white people adopting babies when you were in Antigua? They are everywhere. I think that all this adoption of babies business really just is a business. People are selling their kids. I agree with what you said about orphans. From my experience, the "orphanages" that I have gone to are mostly comprised of kids who chose to leave their families to go live on the streets, usually as a result of gangs, drugs, to make money whatever...but usually it was their choice to be "orphans."

Hi Andy,
that really sucks that you are so sick. I hate when I have to get tests. They always just come back and say that there is nothing wrong with me...and I think, why, then, do I feel so crappy? These doctor people should know a little more than they do sometimes...I got really sick when I came back to Antigua last week and wade had to take care of me. I had a fever. I went to the pharmacy and they tried to give me cipro. I told them that wouldn't work for a fever. They didn't know what to give me...
anyway, I tried signing up for a hobo name and it won't let me create a profile or look at anything...maybe you are working on the problem...maybe i just need help...
Hope you feel better!
