Well, all of the baht appreciation and most of the land appreciation happened after Thaksin was gone. So you are mistaken to attribute the rise to his influence.

Investment period is any length of time that turns a profit. It need not be 20 years. It can be a few months if you buy and flip in a rising market. People skilled at that make big money.

And the point of selling now would be? To then buy in the U.S. where the housing market and the currency are both sinking?

The point of my comment was that being free from rent and ownership has certain advantages. Owning and investing also has certain advantages.

LOL! The Thai baht has appreciated more than 20% against the U.S. dollar this year. Not many investments beat that. The land I bought 3 years ago has doubled in value (in baht). On top of that is the monetary gain should I decide to liquidate and convert back to dollars. Kicks butt over any stateside investments in the last 3 years.
