Andy, Perhaps the loud ones overshadow the rest of us who know about freedom of speach and are not afraid. I enjoyed Mr. Hidalgo's comments and pictures. It was nice of him to describe his frame of reference so I had some idea what his perspective is and how that might affect his eyes and attitudes. I think he was a good choice for your roving reporter. My frame of reference: I am American and US, a nod to the other nationalities of america the continent, past 60 yers and I have been a hobo, laborer, and scientist of late. Many years of travel around the world, not as many as you, and not nearly as prolific. Thanks for another eye's view of our world. John

Andy, I am an engineer and you are stressing the power supply, but that is also what it is designed to do, take out the bumps in the electricity and give the laptop a steady DC voltage. If you were to put an electric meter and watch the voltage at the outlet when you switch on lights or better yet the airconditioner you would see voltage swings down then up. What the power supply is not good at is dealing with voltages that are too low. Low voltage is what happens when you try to power things over a long extension cord that is too small a wire. When the voltage goes down the amperage goes up at the device you are trying to run to get the same power needed for the device. This makes the wire/extension hot and the device hot or much hotter than it is supposed to be if it was running at the right voltage. Another problem with power is the cycles per second may be irregular and change from 55-65 cycles per second. This speeds up and slows down motors like the ceiling fan. Not as bad as the low voltage. Best thing to do is to make sure the power supply has plenty of air circulation so if the voltage is low it does not overheat as bad. Remember heat kills electrical devices! Keep on traveling, John

Andy,
Great ramble on confusion before travel. Liars liars...boring but true. Stay the course. I enjoyed a small window onto my past.

Andy, Great philosophy! I am now old enough to have very similar thoughts about the old ones. For me it has been a transition from horse and buggy to rocket ships and still we have the rivers and prairies. There is a baseline that does not seem to change. I also ran off when I could to surf, ski, sail and play in the sand and sea. I was so cold as a kid in the empty prairie I thought the rest of the world had everything. They only have other things and do not have the family traditions or memories and without them it can be pretty empty. Keep up the travel, please.
