The Philippines are a real contradiction at times. Baguio homes are listed at $500.00/sq ft...this is NOT Beverly Hills.....
But you CAN get a coronary Angiogram and Stents for $3,000.00 vs @ $90,000.00 in the USA. What is mind boggling, they have 450,000 registered nurses who are without jobs here in the Philppines. How much effort would it take to make Medical Tourism a specialty with the great Medical Care you can receive at 1/10th the cost in the USA?

When renting an apartment or condo, be very leery of you must pay utilities. Be aware that she may have 12 other people on the water and electric meter and suddenly you become the provider of many luxurious showers!!
Unless you have your OWN dedicated meters to your apartment, tell the landlord your fixed monthly rent must include water and electric. Some places will offer cable tv as part of the rent package, so ask if cable is available or included in the monthly rent.
10,000 to 15,000p / month seems the norm for decent (2 bedroom) apartments in town. If you can live farther out of the city, 5,000 to 10,000 is the norm.

You have now found the taybul of Nolidge was named so for the very reason you have stated the assistance rendered in friendship to those who visit Baguio City and the Red Lion in particular. Paul is a perfect example of the real expats of the Philippines, fellows who want to add to the community and be good ambassadors of their homelands, whether American, Canadian, British, Aussie or Danish...you will find the folks in Baguio very acommodating to fellow travelers. These are not temporary tourists looking for quick strikes and then haul ass out of town. Many of these folks have been here for decades and take pride in their roots here in Baguio and the surrounding area to raise their families and be of good cheer in public.
I have benefited greatly from the help Ive received from the Red Lion patrons, from renting my house to finding the right college to put my 4 nurses through the BSN program.
In addition, we are fortunate to have Paul and Phil as members of the VFW Post 9892 down on the beach at Bauang, LaUnion. When you visit down there, please stop in at the VFW Canteen (next to the Bali Hai East Resort) and someone will help you get a very nice room for 700p/nite for a little get away from the rain soaked hills of the Cordilleras!! LOL...
Now that I have blatantly plugged our VFW, the Bali Hai East, and the Red Lion....I wish you continued good fortune in seeking out sound advice, cheap rents and good eats whilst in Baguio and on the beach areas of Central Luzon!!

When I first arrived in the Philippines, I commented to my wife (back then she was my FUTURE wife) about all the huge billboards for White Skin treatments in Manila.
My wife stated Filipinos want white skin, white babys. I told her, but in North America women spend billions of dollars in travel to Mexico and tanning salons to get skin tones JUST LIKE A FILIPINO
Her response was brilliant!
Oh Honey Ko...GOD MUST HAVE A HEADACHE, NO?
There is nothing so lovely as the soft sheen and coco powder color of the Island Girls...I hope the chemical companies fail miserably at turning the natural beauty of the Filipina into some white paste of a skin color.....blechhhh!!

Methinks those photos are SWAN boats ...but speaking of Ducks...Are you man enough to eat BALUT? Ahh, the thrill of a warm bodied embryonic duck with all its little feathers, beak and tiny feet sliding down your gullet will give you the true spirit of being a native wanna be!!
Nothing like waking up in the morning to the vendor hawking his warm duck eggs....BAA LOOOT, BAAAA LOOOOOOT.....
My family is crazy about Balut...I am crazy about a nice, roasted ADULT duck without the feathers, thank you!!
