Jack and Jane Verburg commented about July 4 in USA 2009, On Sunday July 5th, 2009 11:20:52 AM

Happy 4th. of July. Yes, you are right...Americans do not appreciate the freedom they have. There is nothing worse then listening to some person wine about THEIR government when they have never experiences 3rd. world enviroment.
Once you have, you are never the same.
I object to the statement that Canada hates USA!!!!Most of us love you and consider you a brother...although we have free health care...ha ha.
We have also been arrested for taking pictures, deported for helping the poor, and have also experienced the abuse of power by authority.
Hopefully the Phillipines will be kinder to you.
Blessings, Jack and Jane

Jack and Jane Verburg commented about Unemployment 2009, On Sunday July 5th, 2009 05:37:24 AM

So you have never seen a person close to starving!
The reason is because you alway travel through a country and never in a country. Buses dont travel to starvation camps and they dont have hotels in those areas either.
We were in Ethiopia for months before we really began to understood the people and their plight...before we were invited into a hut and saw the way the local people live.
We are blessed to live in Canada.
Send me your e-mail address and Ill send you some photos.

Response to Claudius...200+ lb. people have choices...cooking at home is always cheaper...how many fat poeple do you see in Africa?

Jack and Jane Verburg commented about Worried about Kenya and Uganda Water, On Sunday May 10th, 2009 05:12:07 PM

Dont worry Andy...things are no different in Ethiopia, (we spent 2 years there) you just didn t travel to far off the main road...or were lucky.
Dont think this is just an Africian problem...
The water supply to the 5,000 residents of the town of Walkerton, Ontario, Canada became contaminated in May 2000 with E. coli bacteria from farm runoff into a well that was known as a source of contamination.
Many residents began to suffer from bloody diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections and other E. coli symptoms. By the end of the tragedy, at least seven people died directly from drinking the E. coli contaminated water and about 2,500 became ill.

Jack and Jane Verburg commented about Steel Buildings in Kilgoris Kenya, On Sunday April 19th, 2009 01:06:28 PM

The top picture looks like grain bins that we stored wheat in when I was a kid, on the farm in Canada. There was a 2 foot steel mesh pipe, that ran from the bottom to the top peak, for ventalation. The other picture looks like the Kenyas have take the technology and used it to build houses. Might be hot but certainly would be weather, bug, and rodent proof.

Jack and Jane Verburg commented about Malaria Medicine in Kenya Africa, On Sunday April 19th, 2009 05:37:29 AM

but why fix a problem that makes the drug companies a fortune?
however I think it would be hard to put screens in mud huts.. where most of the problem exists.
We should be teaching hygiene..an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Jack and Jane Verburg commented about Map Isiolo to Nanyuki Kenya, On Monday April 6th, 2009 08:44:55 AM

Yes, Niarobi is just another smelly city, lots of diesel fumes. Travelling around Lake Victoria sounds good, climb Mt Kiliminjaro and go to Mombasa..I hear it is quite nice..and fly home from there.
Blessnings

Happened to stumble on your web page...enjoying your comments. We travelled from Niarobi to Addis in 2002...took 10 days. You could have seen hippos in Lake Ziway. Cost 20 birr for a guy to takes us out in his boat.
Anyway at least it will be easier for you in Kenya..people speak English.
Blessings, Jack and Jane. Canada
