"I do understand if they are making exceptionally strong requirements for India people, but I am American, not Indian."
that sums it up! I mean you are American, a citizen of the greatest country in the world. You can go wherever you like and do what ever you like because you are an American and you are glad because "at least you know you are free". You know you always do good and you bring joy and peace wherever you go. How dare any country make any Visa requirements for Americans, much more some insignificant West African Republic when they should be begging benevolent hobos to visit?
I am asking my friend who is an immigration office in Ghana to keep a look-out for you, my dear Andy

Dear Andy,
That is not a threat in anyway. I am beginning to understand or misunderstand you.
1)You see nothing wrong with implying that because you are an American you should have special consideration for a Ghana visa compared to an Indian?
2)You have already been to Ghana before but you do not know if there is a USA embassy in Ghana?
Based on the correct premise that there are a lot of people from poorer countries seeking a better life in the USA, Ghanaians applying for visa (both economic migrants and legitimate visitors) are being humiliated daily at the US embassy in Accra. It is like a lottery.
The problem is you are quick to point out the log in the other person's eye and ignore the beam in your own eyes. The fact that you come from a far richer and prosperous country does not mean you are always legit. We have had incidents of pedophiles and sex-tourists taking advantage of Ghanaians. I know from reading your blog that you are not one but the requirements are there to protect everyone
Proof of future departure (an onward or return ticket) is a basic requirement for any Visa to any country. As you have said, Ghanaians are nice people. Actually too nice, you have zero chance of being refused a Ghana visa if you meet the basic requirements.
You are welcome to Ghana and I hope you make it there and have a nice stay. If I was at immigration I may deport you on arrival in Accra (just to prove a point) if you do not have
1)a return ticket
2) proof of where you where going to stay.
But that won't happen and shouldn't happen. Maybe as you travel around some more you will understand how patronising and insulting your original post was. But you mean no harm, so I wish you all the best.
