I'd say that 55-liter pack would get onto a plane w/o too much issue. I'm using a 51-liter pack now, and never been a problem. Hell, even got away 100 of the time taking onboard with the 'ol 65-liter I use to use... though the times, they are a changin'. That attached bag would have to go, without a doubt. I'd never use it (as mentioned in the survey).

I 'discovered' these door knob cup covers myself here in Bangkok in June, and couldn't believe I haven't been traveling from the start. Tried an Internet search to find some additional photo examples to show others w/o need of e-mailing photos, but just can't seem to find any. Amazing that I haven't seen them for sale elsewhere in the globe (or maybe just never noticed them). Invaluable.

I came to terms a long time ago with the RSS thing. Regular readers know what your adverts look like and where they're at on the page. As a result, they're the biggest group to suffer 'ad blindness'.

Unles you're getting paid on advert exposures, RSS subscribers taken back to the page probably aren't going to make you any more money.

I found lots of mouths full of gold in Quetzaltenango and nearby villages (like Totonicapán).

Not unlike the urban black male of the USA who sports a "grill" full of (often fake but not always) gold teeth, being able to afford to have your teeth outlines in gold is a sign of prosperity and social affluence. I've seen the entire set of upper teeth outlined in gold (in what I would assume is a rather permanent procedure).

Wikia isn't any of those.

Wikia is a project of Wikia, Inc. [wikia.com] ...the two have nothing to do with each other, other than the fact that Wikia search will almost certainly index Wikipedia and Wikipedia will almost certainly have an entry for Wikia search.

That is to say...

Wikia [wikia.com] is not the same thing as Wikipedia [wikipedia.org], even though Jimmy Wales is centrally involved in both.

Interesting...

Best airport I've traveled through: Narita, Japan, December/January 2004/2005.

Walked off a noisy flight and entered the Zen of airports. Silence. Plasma screens in the waiting lounge displaying gate areas. Proper signage.

Most importantly, US$5 for 30 minutes of the best shower money can buy after the first experience of going without hot water for half a month before a long flight home (just a blink of the eye compared to the multi-month withdrawal experienced in 2006).

Of course, this is one of the most information packed forums out there about hosts: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

hehe -- I totally understand. I don't use these guys (too pricey for my hobo-blood), but I hear great things: http://www.dreamhost.com/

Ahh I see. Wow -- I think you should put out a call for help finding a new 3rd party host for the site -- $200/ is pretty steep, and things like load balancing is just a part of a normal hosting companies hardware setup.

For example, my current host (for $10/month) allows me 5GB & 70GB/transfer per month!

I think that collectively we can find a wonderful new home for hobotraveler.com and REDUCE your costs, not increase them!

Out of curiosity, where does $600 a month (or $200) come from? Are rolling up your time as an expense, or are you possibly thinking of paying someone (people?) to maintain the site? With hosting prices as they are, I just can't see the hobo-logic in such a high reoccurring expense!
