It is very comforting experience until my mind adjusts and I remember how to interpret the Philippines, and then is the onset of Cultural Fatigue. I'm just curious, what do you mean but this?

I don't think that you can say you truly visited a country if you never venture outside your box and 5 star hotel. Most people that travel never actually see the country they visit, instead they see a 5 star hotel and return home as you said with photos and proof of their self absorbed life, never truly experiencing the world around them. Quite boring in my opinion and not very interesting to read or talk about! You are right no one wants to read about the same tourist destination that everyone else saw, at least not me. And yes function does win over tackiness!

Attach a pen to your backpack with a string that can slide into one of the outer pockets. This way you always have one even if it is just a backup! Ziplock bags are great too for storing items in that might have the potential to leak and ruin all your clothes etc. I learned this after the cap on a can of hairspray came off and sprayed my clothes until the can was empty....very irritating!

This is true chicken is much more common around the world. I was surprised to find out from my Iraqi friend,an Interpretor, that they raise turkeys in Iraq, his mom has a whole flock. I never would have guessed this. Personally I prefer turkey. Great photos!
