It should be against Philippines Constitution to let there people work in most middle eastern countries. The workers are most certainly in for a bad humiliating time. They are lucky if they receive there minimum wage of approximately $ 400 USA a month. about 95 a week and then charged for anything the family or business deems not in the contract. Soap ! Food,Water ! and many are coerced into sex and or converting the the religion of peace (Muslim) in order to get paid. Many Saudi are sick POS. Why is everyone afraid of them ? Yes even President Bush. Both of them give in to the Saudis and we get stabbed in the back time after time....OIL is always is the answer period. Soon as we invent a decent 300 mile per day 75 MPH electric car the Saudis will be begging to work in the Philippines and I hope the Filipinos will treat them with the respect they where shown.
I would love to hire a Filipino for double $ the salary to help do my mom's work around the house and yard.cook.clean,pick up grandchildren,shop etc But that would be exploitation to pay DOUBLE what they get to be abused by Saudi men.

Much safer for the most part is being in Philippines. Except for the fact that if you leave anything on your lawn (Tools,Building materials,bikes, nails,bags of anything concrete,bricks etc.), in the Philippines it will be gone in the morning in the Phils

PS. I lived in Nicaragua in what would be called Royal Shack just outside of Grenada ,Nicaragua. It was nice and had a indoor garden and MONSTER Brick and Cement BBQ that's about it. I was worried about robbery (The worry was I was assumed to be rich by locals because I am from USA)
I invited all the close neighbors (3 houses to each side and across the street 3x3 ) to a B.B.Q. after a month of living there and I hoped they would see that all I had was Not much more than they had except a huge B.B.Q. area and nice yard and that they are welcome to cook with me IF I invited them.
We got along fine and in a instant Then I had a SUPER secure home and super neighbors
Only Problem ? Well it was the occasional request of, if could host a.a First communion party or a Baptism lunch.
Basically I said.
' Free food and Victoria Beer' for me and free clean up after the party and also a Free second clean up because it will needed it especially the bathroom.. plus 20 dollar deposit
will be returned if house is clean
simple and respected.
No Problamos.........Be a good neighbor
Works good everywhere except USA. Nobody to be found for cleanup day in USA.

Guam's governor has said that skilled Filipino workers will make up the bulk of overseas labor to be used as bases are expanded to accommodate some 8,000 U.S. Marines and their families who are due to relocate from Okinawa, Japan, over the next few years.
Philippine Overseas Employment Administration chief Jennifer Manalili said the government is targeting the deployment of about 15,000 to 20,000 construction workers to the U.S. territory.
It expects to issue deployment guidelines by the end of 2009 for recruiting the workers, with a proposed salary of at least $17 per hour, she said.

Are you planning an expensive trip?
Cheap people spend more money doing things themseleves. Rich spend less having others do it for them.
Problem is your demographic is mainly cheap shoestring travelers. They will gather all the info they think they need for free scouring your website and others spending countless hours rather than paying a few dollars. Free is the name of the game for this crowd.
A rich person would make a phonecall/email and describe what there looking for and buy or not buy. Pretty rare someone wants to barebone it AND pay to learn.

It is mainly a American problem. Problem is in America laws are made to exploit the ones they can. $$2.38-$3.00 an hour cents a hour for tipped jobs IN USA ! IS still a lot more than Phils or anywhere in SE Asia but rent and bills are much more to pay in USA
Waitresses,waiteres, bartenders, limo drivers,taxi drivers,bellmen and such depend on tips in USA. If it where not for tips it would not be worth working. IN USA that is.
Most other countries pay reasonable wages for this service and tips are generally for outstanding service.
Once you announce your from the USA in a foreign country to whomever may be helping you they assume they are going to get tipped. Best to say your from Israel so you get what you want and no BS. Plus a tip will be doubley appricaited.
PS do not use this tip in middle east
Hence you announce your from USA so are your a rich American they think ? or Cheap Charlie ? like most of the world ? probable someone else can explain better but this is my sentiment.

I totally and absolutely disagree with Andy on this one small but huge point.....
The advantage is........You have lived long enough to know what you want and how to get it,
The disadvantage is you did not know what you wanted when you are in your 20s-30s early 40s
as the saying goes Youth is wasted on the Young
For the fortunate few that have a good education, a decent passive income and reasonable health and looks. Many guys can live a long and happy life as older gentlemen in Asia much better than younger guys that saved a few grand and hit the road hoping their LOOKS can get them through the tough times in EU and America.
Let me tell you young guys the truth !
Get as much education as you can. With education you can travel with. Doctor,Nurse,Engineer,Finance,Seaman etc.
Andy is the exception. The rest of you should not even think of doing what Andy does until your 40 and have a non stop passive (retirement investment) income of USA $2,500 a month + 2 inflation per year.
You can do it earlier but most of you will have a ex- and a child or 2 in tow to ruin the reality thus you read Andys thoughts and wish it was you

Im surprised there wasnt a printing shop right around Robinsons. Harrison is way past its prime but does have a relatively clean and decent supermarket with good prices and bookstore with stationary supplies. Maybe that was the place the book store that was down for inventory ? I think they take orders for business cards there.

A total of 126 overseas Filipino workers who have been stranded in the Middle East for lack of fare money after encountering problems at work arrived home Friday as part of the efforts of the government and the private sector to repatriate them.
The OFWs, some of them undocumented and mostly domestic helpers who ran away after being abused by their employers in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan, and Oman, planed in aboard Gulf Air flight GF-156 from Dubai.
The OFWs, who couldn’t afford to pay for their plane fare (about $340-$350 each) home, were forced to stay at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) office in Dubai prior to their repatriation.
The stranded workers were able to come home through the corporate social responsibility efforts of state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and San Miguel Corporation (SMC).
“Mabuti naman at naisipan kaming tulungan at mapauwi nang libre ng ating gobyerno, pribadong sector at maging ilang bangko na pinagre-remitan namin ng mga kinita. Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat sa kanila,” said domestic helper Jacky Villarin, 23, of Dasmarintildeas, Cavite.
Villarin, who claimed she was overworked from working for two households for a measly monthly salary of P8,000 in Dirhams, escaped from her employers after barely two months of work.
Elizabeth Baya, 32, a mother of three from Bacolod City, wept and trembled as she recalled her ordeal from her employer in Kuwait whom she claimed physically abused her.
She said her demeanor brought about by her traumatic experience abroad prompted Philippine Embassy officials to send her to a mental institution in Kuwait for observation.
The arriving OFWs were treated to a sumptuous “merienda” composed of lasagna, chicken and tuna sandwiches, cream puffs and refreshments at a special holding area at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 while they comfortably awaited the processing of their travel papers by immigration personnel.

Yes I think she is lovely. Just wanted to pass some info along to her. HUGE American navy base being built in Guam and Saipan. Okinawa base in Japan is closing down and the pacific fleet being moved to Guam. There is a base now but it is gonna quadruple in size so GREAT opportunity for nurses to get there. American Wages and just a 3 1/2 hour flight to Manila...I have done this flight many times very easy. She could fly home often if home sick. Really an Ideal place for her I would think.

MANILA, Philippines — Guam will be needing not just Filipino construction workers but health workers as well, a recruitment consultant said on Sunday.
“Aside from construction workers, Guam will also be hiring nurses and other health care workers with the impending relocation of US Marines and dependents from Okinawa, Emmanuel Geslani said in a statement.
Demand for health care workers is expected to start by 2012 when the relocation has already been completed, enough time for those interested to work in Guam to prepare.
“Aspiring Filipino nurses and doctors can now prepare by taking the necessary licensure examinations, he said.
Guam will require other health care workers such as medical technicians in radiology, cardio labs, CT-Scan, occupational and physical therapists, medical transcriptionists and medical administrative personnel.
Deployment of Filipino construction workers to Guam is expected to start by the first quarter of 2010.

FCCT board faces police probe over lese majeste

For the first time in its five-decade history, the whole board of the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT) has been accused of committing lese majeste, a crime with a maximum jail sentence of 15 years.
Laksana Kornsilpa, 57, a translator and a critic of ousted and convicted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra filed a lese majeste complaint against the 13-member board at Lumpini police station on Tuesday night.
Laksana was ed on ASTV Manager website as claiming the boards decision to sell DVD copies of Jakrapob Penkairs controversial speech at the club back in 2007 constituted an act of lese majeste.
She alleged that the whole board may be acting in an organized fashion and the goal may be to undermine the credibility of the high institution of Thailand.
ASTV Manager daily also ed Laksana as saying some major local newspapers may also part of a movement to undermine the monarchy.
FCCT president Marwaan Macan-Markar said the board members have decided not to give separate interviews. It issued a statement saying: The FCCT will cooperate with such an inquiry [by the police].
The board, includes three British nationals including the BBCs Bangkok correspondent Jonathan Head, three American nationals, including two working for Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal, an Australian national and a Thai news reader for Channel 3, Karuna Buakamsri.
Social critic and lese majeste case defendant Sulak Sivaraksa, reacting to the news, told The Nation yesterday that the problem of [abusing] lese majeste law is now utterly messy.
The fact that leading world intellectuals like Noam Chomsky and others have petitioned to [PM] Abhisit [Vejjajiva to reform the law] is a testimony to it. If we let it goes on like this it will get even messier. Its time for the government to do something.
A source within the FCCT, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he was surprised at the latest allegation, which came after two years of the speech being made, adding that it places Thailand in a very poor light.
DVDs were set up largely for club members who missed interesting talks and sales are restricted solely for FCCT members. Few copies of the Jakrapob talk are understood to have been sold because a manuscript of his talk circulated in Bangkok shortly after he was charged, and the video can be downloaded free from some websites.
In the comments section on ASTV Managers website, most posters expressed support for Laksana and praised her for the move.
One said: Put them in jail for 99 years.
Another asked the site to post a picture of Jonathan Head so the person could attack him if he or she ran into him.

Where you are. Its a good hospital (Thammast University Hospital) many of the doctors moonlight at Bumrungrand Hospital (The best in The Big Mango) All of Asia really. Also many of the Doctors are USA or Aussie taught or took a few terms and the nurses are truly saintly as they are in most of Thailand. Cant stress that enough.
You want a great girlfriend ? Get hurt in Thailand and you will meet your soul mate. Dont complain to much,but let them know they are appreciated and you could wind up happy for life.
Hobos may want to ask about Insurance when your done. To late now, but worth it to buy since your there every year for a month or two at a time.
I have a policy at the Bangkok hospital in Pattaya and collect on it almost every year. (Motorcycle,punched in the face related but otherwise good health) so not to expensive.

(WOMENSENEWS)--June Flowers would have done anything to stop the pain.
Suffering from a severely herniated spinal disk, with little savings and no health insurance and earning less than $10 an hour as a part-time cafeteria cashier, she couldnt afford the $30,000 operation her doctors said she needed.
On good days, I could barely stand or walk, says Flowers, 46, a resident of Huron, S.D. On bad days, I couldnt even get out of bed.
It didnt make sense to buy private health insurance, because her back problem would be considered a pre-existing condition and exempted from treatment for two years. Flowers feared having to file for bankruptcy. Then came the quirk of fate that sent her halfway around the globe and solved her health and financial troubles in one go.
One night I caught a TV show about Bumrungrad hospital in Thailand, where Americans without insurance go for affordable care, says Flowers. I e-mailed them, and within weeks, I was on a plane to Bangkok. I paid $3,500 for back surgery and three days later, I was home with my pain gone and my problem cured.

Just spend a few hours watching the coming and going at the BUM Bumrungrand Hospital and watch the filthy rich come and go and you can actually afford the treatment also or go to a Hospital that has BUM Staff they frequently rotate to save a few Baht. Just ask what OTHER HOSPITALS they have privileges at (work)

Whats especially sad is that most people of a certain generation only know Michael Jackson as a crazy guy who had a lot of plastic surgery -- whereas the truth is, he was not only an unbelievably talented, groundbreaking performer, he also helped break down the racial prejudice in this country. He was an extremely powerful symbol -- a black performer who whites could relate to and then later in life, a white performer who blacks could relate to.

I disagree ANDREW. I find Thais much more conscious of a animals plight if that is what you are saying. Notice all the Soi Dogs seemingly stray ? Most have a job alerting the Soi/small side street about strangers. People who live on the Soi feed these dogs and in return they are a natural alarm if anything is out of the ordinary. I see great care for injured animals. Not uncommon to see many people take a pet to the Vet and sit and wait as if it where a family member and I am sure you see how they love thier elephants.
If you want to take a great side trip and Thailand try volunteering at a Elephant camp. You will never forget the experience and the Elephants will always remember you even years after you return.

GOVERNMENT troops sodomised pygmies in March in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, believing they would gain supernatural powers, a regional rights group said.
Some soldiers from the 85th Brigade sodomised three male pygmies to gain supernatural powers and protection in Kisa village in Walikale territory,\ the Human Rights League of the Great Lakes said.
The village chief was stripped and (sodomised) in the presence of his wife, his children and daughter in-law.
The children in turn were stripped and raped in front of their father.
It said armed groups in the region also abused the pygmies.
Elderly citizens and children were also being raped by the armed groups and wayward FARDC soldiers in eastern DRC, it added.
The pygmies live essentially as subsistence hunter-gatherers in the forests in the DRCs equatorial zones and have been targeted by militia groups in the past.
Among the armed groups roaming the eastern part of Congo are the Rwandan Hutu Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda rebels.
Some of its members are accused of being among the main perpetrators of Rwandas 1994 genocide by Hutus against the Tutsi minority.
The United Nations and global human rights organisations have accused the FDLR of engaging in mass murder, rape and pillage of locals property.

I would like to vote for Vietnam as the number one destination as $ money for value. First even in a dam cheap otel you can get a little warm water for a shower. #2 if you have a complaint (need a towel or a fan) it is done in minutes. # 3 they seem to try to improve your stay with any little complaint. # 4 if you say I need something in 1 hour they try there damdest to try to help you.
I do believe you did not have a good time in Vietnam. I think things are changing. They want to be the best at what ever they do and it seems to be changing. I hope you give Vietnam another chance.
They are truly the new destination for inexpensive and value for money. My heart is in Thailand but the Vietnamese as always can never be discounted...
P.S try the fresh spring rolls for a buck beats the heck out of Pad Thai plus the free roll of French bread. Nha Trang has the great beach you should try again it seems more cleaned up than in the past work crews at dawn cleaning the beach !!

Yes I think so to a point. If a man thinks logically, he would may figure out it gets warmer when you move in different directions.
Some times you just can't move. legal,wars,family,no trans, in any time line.
But if you know it is going to get rather cold soon you do what you can to survive that period that you know is coming or you will perish.
If it stays warm all year round with nothing but a rainy spell you are content and maybe pick a few extra fruit before the dry spell ?
However in the 21st century it looks like those in the Warm belt are retarded and those in Scandinavia are Einsteins.
I think a basic life is better to be warm. When you develope capabliteis to cope with the Cold then you can expand your horizons.
This is why I think Man developed in a warm climate and not in a cold climate.
I do not think anyone will object to this thought.
However those who leave the warm environment to learn more usually make a better nest. It is only a resent phenomenon that those who leave have left and sent back "$$$" and support to those in need to the bad environment they left behind
For example these 1,000's of poor villages in Africa that could hardly support a few hundred people for the past 500 years now grow to 10's of thousands because of people able to leave and seek better jobs and send money home and NGO"S providing relief from working a farm and building their own shelter and digging there own wells.
Darwinism in reverse is all it is. How can you not help ? Is the Question. How you make it worse is the answer.

Children pit their parents against each other all the time in relations that are not tight nit.
The child is not evil. He/she is learning to survive like any child/animal and seeking guidance.
The Parents should recognize that (AS YOU SAY) "if a child would cause his parents to argue THIS is evil".
A good parenting team would see what the child is doing and understand he/she has some issue that needs to be addressed by both parents and shown love and understanding and that the Parents are a team and will not be separated and pitted against each other by the the Child because of anger or displeasure with one or both of his/her parents.

Is something children will understand if done together and one parent is not THE BIG BOSS and the other the softy. Parenting is a team game. Unfortunately it is a lost art in many communities that rely on goverment programs.

Thai court closes hundreds of websites disrespecting royals
BANGKOK --
A Thai court has ordered hundreds of websites to be shut down for carrying content disrespectful to the kingdom’s revered royal family, a media watchdog reported Tuesday.
The government’s communications ministry asked the court to close some 400 sites, including 344 deemed offensive to the royal family, the Bangkok-based Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) said.
Local media reported the sites included two with religious content, one containing a video sex game and five with obscene material.
“(The ministry) sought court orders on September 2, 2008 to shut down about 400 Web sites and ... block 1,200 sites it considers to be either a danger to national security or a disturbance to social order,” SEAPA said.
The minister for information and communications technology, Mun Patanotai, said the sites had been detected between March and August, and prosecuted under Thailand’s Computer Crime Act, according to SEAPA.
The ministry is now seeking to prosecute the people responsible for the Web sites, it said.
The closures come as an Australian author apologized from his Bangkok jail cell for criticizing the king’s son, after being held since August 31 on a charge of lese majeste, or offenses against the crown.
“I am sorry that my words may have hurt. It was not my intention to attack his majesty the king or his kingdom,” Harry Nicolaides told media watchdog Reporters Without Borders. “I am a writer and I wrote what I had heard many Thais say. I thought it was acceptable. I made a mistake.”
Nicolaides, 41, was arrested a week ago trying to catch a flight to Australia at Bangkok’s international airport. He has been refused bail and faces up to 15 years in jail over a passage in his 2005 novel “Verisimilitude.”
He said that only 50 copies of the book were ever printed, and only seven were sold.
The media clampdown comes after Thailand banned the video-sharing service YouTube for five months last year, over videos that mocked Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The ban was only lifted after YouTube, owned by Internet giant Google, agreed to filter videos related to the king from appearing to users in Thailand.
Internet content seen as overtly critical of the king — who many Thais believe is semi-divine — has been under close scrutiny since former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was toppled in a coup by army generals in 2006.

About Israeli's or are you trying to defend them without realizing this is the trait that could be the problem in the first place. You need this vicious bargaining trait if your in the 3rd world or if you are a native, but to drive a natives price to almost unacceptable levels when you come from a first world country while on VACATION is degrading.
Israelis have the info on what a Thai/natives prices pays and demands that price !!...however they don't take into consideration that most THAI's or other native customers a re-pete native customers they have been known for years and do other business with them like shop at other customers shops,schools,events.
Yet Israelis start to hurl insults quickly in Yiddish that are not too hard to figure out ; at the local Thai's if their price demands are not met based on their research and second hand info. I do not know any group that is so demeaning when they do not get their way. Hence the "WE are full" during low -season excuse to traveling Israelis ...EVEN though any THAI would sell a room or food at half price to any other group/black/white/Arab/Asian etc.....just to have a customer. They would rather do without than to be belittled and told how bad service is and stupid and pitiful they are in front of their children.
Again however the Israelis maybe right in their assurances and confidence and FACTS ; just like Muhammad Ali would tell the World he was THE GREATEST....He was ! but ended up feeble and just a shell of himself because he felt invincible not willing to say enough is enough before it was to late....
I don't hate them , but having a conversation with them is like fighting Ali...It's gonna be tough and if you win there will be negative repercussions about you like Liston, Frazier,Norton,Foreman anyone gets close would be taken down several notches in the media and lambasted so you were mind weak before and after the fight...
not worth engaging if you want to have peace of mind...
and thats all I want to say...I get more reasonable debate from the lad's at Bang Kwang Prison than an Israeli on holiday.

Bring a few baht $ 2 a chocolate bar and a good new tee-shirt for donation and you got a friend for life!!!!!!...they will remember and pay you back 100 fold. You can visit a inmate of your choosing,UK,Aussie,USA etc...Africans get no visitors except an occasion priest so if you got the time ask for a African prison to visit.
Getting there:
From Banglampoo Pier (Khao San) take the big whistling boat going upstream (to the right). It costs 8 Baht to Nonthaburi and takes 40 minutes. Nonthaburi is the last stop and you will recognize it by the white clock tower by the pier and the AMPM convenience store. Jump off the boat and walk straight on - ignore the touts! Take the 1st left and walk about 250 meters. You will see Bang Kwang prison on the right. You will need to go to the registration area on the left…
Never met an Israeli Prisoner that there !!! There goverment does back them up 100% and gets them out no matter what the cost or what they did. USA will let a kid rot for 8 years because he had some pot or drugs for himself.

Just get to know a doctor who works at the Bumrungrad and also the goverment hospitals. If he works at the BUM he is equivalent to a stateside doctor and you can SAVE A BUNDLE if he works on you at the Government hospital. Here is a list of doctors for every conceivable proble at Bumrungrand cross reference this with Government hospitals and seek him/her out

Anyone can print what looks like a E-ticket. It takes some serious talent to make 4 piece carbon copy paper tickets. This is a step backwards in security unless they gave all the guards scanners to check your e-ticket. I pretty much agree with you Andy to a point. If there not padding there resumes with near useless volunteer work for a semester their out whoring with the locals they where sent to help. I do find the Israelis are some of the worst tourists I have run into. They put the Euro-trash to shame. I know of a few guest houses that see there passport and suddenly they have no rooms not that they trash the place but they treat staff and owners like trash.
I occasionally ask waitresses/bargirls in Asia what the nationalities are like and it is usually the same answers.
English (UK)= cheap but nice.
Swedes = Handsome
Japanese = sadistic/wierd but tip/pay well.
Aussies = drink to much
German= no fun
Russian = OK but get angry easy
Koreans = not nice
Israelis = terrible, insulting and cheap
Americans = very kind,good
and the only surprising answer was about Arabs. I would have thought they would be rude and dangerous but a lot of girls say the are ROMANTIC

Does it make you laugh when you see Thai's in Starbucks dropping a days wage for coffee ? I get the street ice coffee for 10 baht 33 cents and I feel cool. Thais have to pay 100 baht $ 3.33 @ Starbucks to feel the same sense of coolness. Funny how that works.
