To explain to people who have not worked for Bruce Peru. Bruce Peru
Centres are not in any way educational divisions. The children do not get any qualification from being in a BP centre. The “idea” is to prepare them for school. This is not needed as any child can enter the Peruvian state education system regardless of their level. So after the children have been in a BP centre, yeah he pays for the uniforms, (which for 30 children is the equalivant of 2 months donation fee from one volunteer. The help stops there. So what happens the next year??
Does the situation of the families miraculously change and now they have money to send their children to school??
You decide!

Are you BLIND. Yeah he puts them in to a state school. But how long does he support them. The reason that the kids are not in school is because the families can not afford to put them in to school.
SO you think by paying for a uniform and a small enrollment fee is enough, what happens next year?????
They go back on the streets. Or back in to a bruce peru Centre!!!
most of these kids have already been in school. So what is the point of putting them in a Bruce Peru Centre. They dont need to be prepared. Any child can get in to the first grade regardless of their level.
Who is the Idiot now????

who is this idiot ? why dont they keep them in school for longer . the organization keeps the kids in bruce perus schools until they have a good enough level to join state school. they dont just teach them for a year and then throw them out on the street. the make sure they get into the state school program and give them uniform and pay matriculation fees. i have volunteered with bruce peru and found it extremely worthwhile and rewarding.

I Just wish that some nody could tell me what is the point of putting these kids in school just for one year. This project makes enough money to keep them in school full time untill they graduate.
So why can I never find this answer. And what is the point of putting them in school for one year. if any body knows this
I would like to know. I have asked this question to Bruce time and time again and all I get is a load of crap. I want a direct answer fo a direct quesion. WHY DONT YOU KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL LONGER, YOU HAVE THE FUNDS, WHAT IS THE POINT OF ONE YEAR? THEY END BACK IN THE SAME SITUATION AFTER THIS????????
ARE WE ALL SO BLIND BY THE SHORT TERM THAT WE FORGET THE BIG PICTURE????????

I would like to say a few words in defence of Bruce Peru. I volunteered for Bruce Peru in Trujillo for a month this summer and had a very rewarding experience. I really believe that the work of this charity is making a significant difference to the lives of the children it helps. I met Bruce himself and have no doubts that his intentions are entirely honourable and that every bit of money donated goes into the charitys causes and running costs. The money may not go directly into the project that you are working on as there are many centres already open and Bruce is trying very hard to open schools across South America so that more children can be helped. I did not think the required monthly donation was very much anyway - considering all accommodation and 3 meals a day were included. I would be interested to know on what evidence are the suggested allegations of deceit actually based?

A note to anybody who is thinking about working for Bruce Peru. Please go and visit before you part with any money, ask questions and make sure you are %100 happy. There has been so much bad press about this company, however you dont always get to see it as the Internet is full Glossy web pages with misleading information on Bruce Peru.
A lot of the information displayed on these web sites is not always accurate. In fact there is so much misleading information it-s un true. If you are looking for Gen voluntary work in Peru or South America, there are many organisations that are based there. Many will not have a large web site, as they cannot afford this type of publicity. These are the NGO’s that really need help. More often than not they will be located in a not so tourist area.
So please double check before you part with any thing. Most of the other NGO’s would welcome a donation however this is not compulsory.
Good luck

When in Peru do as the Peruvians do, be friendly to forwigners. Only in our case it is the Peruvians who are foreign to us: ergo LET\'S BE FRIENDLY TO PERUVIANS.
How? Let\'s find the poorest ones (you won\'t have to look very far) and help them.
There is a great Charity in Peru right now, doing just that: http://sosvolunteers.com
They are all volunteers, Peruvian and International. Join them and you will be happy you did. You\'ll have a time you will remember fondly all of your life.

VOLUNTEER HUARAZ ( www.volunteerhuaraz.com )is the destination of choice for a growing number of capable volunteers. Supported by the city, the Government, the Rotary and AFS, our volunteers are changing the lives of many of the very poorest children in town. Also, the city of Huaraz is the second most popular tourist destination in Peru. Come see why...

Volunteer Cajamarca ( WWW.VOLUNTEERCAJAMARCA.COM )is a small self-sustained charity with children\'s centres in several locations throughout Peru (Cajamarca, Cusco, Huaraz, Trujillo, Puerto Chicama, Pesqueda, Las Palmeras and now in Lima). Our mission is to help children too poor, abandoned, abused to go to school: our volunteers locate and invite them to our centres. There we feed, clothe, medicate and educate street children (our goal is to get them into regular schools) - those we cannot get into regular school we keep and teach them ourselves. We have openings with room and board for volunteers at all our centres. Please have a look at our work and our volunteer program, and if you think you would like to join us, by all means fill up an on line application and we will get back to you within two days: http://volunteercajamarca.com
PS: We offer free Spanish lessons to all our volunteers.

Location of the world\'s longest surffing wave (up to 2 kilometers long - a 5 minute ride) and therefore home of an international surffing tournament every March, Puerto Chicama is also a very poor fishing port on the Paciffic coast of Peru. The town is full of barefoot children dressed in tattered clothes. Volunteers are welcome to come to Puerto Chicama to help these children. Bruce Peru has one of its children\'s centres located in Puerto Chicama. Come see: http://malabrigo.info

Being a tourist is great, and some people even take pleasure in being arm chair critics. BUT IF YOU WOULD SERIOUSLY LIKE TO HELP MAKE A BETTER WORLD FOR THE POOREST CHILDREN, then there is no better place to start than by volunteering with Bruce Peru. Probably the fastest growing children\'s charity in Latin America - because it is effectively helping a part of the population no one else seems to have found a large scale solution to: the poorest children.

I would think twice before volunteering at BrucePeru. Check out worldsurface.com and go to the South America section of discussions and see what numerous ex-volunteers have to say. If you do go to BrucePeru, please just ask lots of questions and don\'t pay too much in advance. Many of us found the founder and the organization to be deceitful and there was no transparency so you had no idea where the funding was going. I hear that there are some dedicated volunteers there now tring to fix it, so maybe it\'s better, but please be wary...

Our mission is to locate and help very poor children who are not in school (usually for reasons of poverty, abuse or abandonment), and do whatever is necessary to get them into school. To accomplish our mission we are prepared to feed, clothe, medicate, transport, finance and especially teach such children. Our work has a national scope; at present we are opening a new Children\'s Centre somewhere in Peru at the rate of one every three months. It is difficult to isolate the roll played by our volunteers because in fact we are all volunteers - some permanent, some long term, some short term.
