~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS
ENGLISH IS EXPENSIVE
Most expensive habits and desires.
Would you like to stop work?
Live a simple life.
In the fast food, service oriented world
of western culture, convenience and speed
are considered needed.
But are they really a need, or a luxury?
Along the way we develop some habits.
Some habits are more expensive than others.
Most of the tourist I encounter in my travels have
one major annoying characteristic.
The need for speed.
The need for an itinerary.
A need to schedule of when, where,
what, and why how they enjoy life.
This is not simple or essential living.
It is working your vacation.
It is working your retirement.
It is trying to live your life in one day.
Here are some thoughts and ideas on
habits, and desires that cost sometime
From MOST EXPENSIVE
To LEAST EXPENSIVE.
In order of cost.
1. ALCOHOL, BEER, DRUGS
This is probably 1/2 the budget of
the majority of travelers.
A reservation will make the cost of room
5-10 times more expensive.
A reservation is only good when held
with a credit card. Without money to hold
it, than you are only hoping. A reservation is best
or maybe needed normally on the first
night in a country.
Most of the long term travelers have long ago
given up the idea of renting a car.
There is no need for a car or motorcycle
The cost is ridiculously high, extravagant,
and dangerous. Plus just make you go
fast when you may want to slow down.
4. SPEED AND ITINERARY
This is a nebulous or difficult idea.
You need a plan, and you should work
your plan, but do not need your plan
to be work?
People plan too much, and spend too
much time planning. They miss the flavors
and smells or a country. To find a nice place
that is affordable and fun. I wait, when a good idea
or place of visit is made easy, and affordable
than I go. I make jumps between
hotels, or guesthouses and not really cities.
I ask around and find the next best place to live.
This sort of affordable living in not possible
when you need to leave the next day.
5. ENGLISH SPEAKING
Anything or anyone that speaks English
cost more money. I would say the ability
to talk in English normally doubles the cost
of a restaurant, hotel, attraction. They speak
your language to make more money.
And they do!
5. HOT WATER SHOWERS
If you say this is a necessity.
Double your cost, and in the tropical
areas where it is real hot. It will make
the cost of a room 2-10 times more
If it has that word attached to it...
It is expensive.
Most traveler and tourist do not
have a problem with the telephone.
But now with mobile telephones I have
notice more and more travelers with
the mobile telephone. The internet
is the only way to communicate that
is cost effective for a traveler.
8. RESORT OR SEPARATED HOTEL
If for some reason you feel the need
to have that resort, or that place isolated, alone
with no one to bother you. The cost can
either go down to nothing, or it can rise
to level of total luxury. Living in isolation is
normally cheap. But the cost of transportation
to your hideaway can cost more than the room.
The cost of transportation is part of the
the room cost. The reason a lot of hotel
provide pickup services is because they
know the initial cost could scare you away
before they get in the snare.
Then... they got you.
9. DRINKS OR REFRESHMENTS
A Coke here, a soda on the way.
I was always astounded that in
South America it would cost more
for a cup of coffee than my meal.
Do you always need this?
10 WOMEN AND MEN
The girlfriend, the boyfriend.
There is a temptation to be a big
spender. This may impress the women.
But the Beatles were probably right.
“Money can’t buy you love.”
That was my list of problems.
Things that can explode the cost of your
vacation, and you start to cringe.
If you go to the ATM machine
daily.... Maybe one of the above
has became your money pit.
Just another day in Paradise!
