~ HOBO STEW (A Dish of Meat and Vegetables)

BOSTON
(Really small town Upton.)

Hello from BoAston,
They say things funny here, I am in Boston, Massachusetts USA.

I think it sounds a little funny, but this is a different country
than Indiana so I suppose it is natural they would think and
speak differently. I am now in the “East Coast” culture of the
USA as I traveled by bus from the Midwest Culture” to a new
= land and new people, they are similar to me in 80 percent
of ways, although I could wind them up a little by giving them
a push about this new law change that make it legal in the
state of Massachusetts for boys to marry boys and girls to
marry girls here.

Lots of culture think they are losing their language, history,
or the old ways, but this may be one of them doomsday
changes, hope it does not catch on or we are headed for
extinction when we lose our babies.

But I am just a visitor here and do not live here, and this
is good, because there is too much of too much for me.

Massachusetts is a winding road through broadleaf trees
and picket fences with Americana history speckled on
the landscaping. I am amazed how green the USA is in
comparison to the rest of the world. We are indeed blessed
by our good farmland, weather, and abundance of water.
I would say open spaces, but I am at the birthplace of the
USA in many ways and being the first to be born it is the
most grown up. The houses are wonderfully spaced but they
never stop, there is always the next house along the road
and I keep thinking we will break out of the cluster of homes,
but we do not.

PLYMOUTH ROCK OR PLIMOUTH ROCK
(The Pilgrims spelled it Plimouth.)

I went to Plimouth Rock yesterday, it where the English sent
some settlers to die trying to settle the new world. They
lost almost half the people in the first couple of years,
but success fully got both feet planted on the newly discovered
continent. Plymouth is one of them make you proud to be
American places and part of our “can-do” history. The USA
has a cultural specific attitude of “I can do it,” that is uniquely
American and the Pilgrims that settled Plymouth planted
the seeds of culture that is now the United States of America.
A great experiment.

I sometime try to give other travelers a gentle warning,
“Do not challenge the USA.”
They are bewildered on why,
“There are people in the USA that will work 24 hours a day,
7 days a week to beat you, or maybe die trying.”

Looking at the Plymouth area and the learning about the early
Colonist I think the proved they would die for the cause.
Plymouth Rock represents something essential and unexplainable
about the USA culture that is misunderstood by the world.

LEAVING ON A JET PLANE

Tonight I leave for London to the long cheeks and world of Chips,
I can honestly say I do not know which way I will go in the next
week. If Peter has purchased a car I will probably roam around
Great Britain, if he has not I will get on a plane for Genoa, Italy.

I do not care much, but I do wish to somehow slow down
the world, after years in the slowly developing countries of the
world, I like to slowly move, and think some of our fast pace
advancements are hogwash. A distraction from my ability
to be happy. I will work hard to shift into granny gear
so I can smell the spring roses.

I apologize for not having some photos. I have photos of
Cambodia and now Plymouth Rock on the computer with
no time, but I no point in hurrying, life is too short. I will show
you my world soon in the next issues as this Hobo
invades Europe. What good fun!

Life is Good.
