How I feel today, or a start down
the proverbial travelers path.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry but by demonstrating that
all peoples cry laugh eat worry and die it can introduce the idea
that if we try and understand each other we may even become
friends.

Kibbutz,
- cooperative village or community, in Israel, where all property is collectively
owned and work is organized on a collective basis. Members contribute by
working according to their capacity and in return receive food, clothing,
housing, medical services, and other domestic services according to their
needs.

(Note: Travelers will go Kibbutzing, however normally they need to be
under 26 or some age limit. It appears that the Kibbutz is becoming
and endangered type of living arrangement. This was popular with the
drop out, anti-establishment lifestyles of the 60's.)

Wiki and Jerusalem

I went to Frankfurt, Germany to attend the Wikipedia.org Convention,
then took an Airplane on August 8, to Tel Aviv, Israel.
Laid on the beach for a few days, admired the talent, then came
to Jerusalem hoping to find the Holy of Holy and however have
found a center for problems, possibly for the world.

I will send out this letter, then proceed to Cairo, Egypt I am trying my
best to find a way to visit Niger where there is probably a famine.
I will return from Cairo, to Israel, get my India Visa and then fly from
Amman, Jordan to India.

I need to be in Mumbai or Bombay, India on the 24th of September to
meet Andrew boy Genius that helps on website, then
to Singapore by way of Bangkok, Thailand.

I need help in finding the path to Niger, flights, Visas, etc.

I apologizes for some severe lack of clarity, I have accumulated too
many photos and have experienced too much too fast to pack
easily into one newsletter. If you really wish to follow the day to day
ranting and ravings of this I be Hobo, then read the daily journal post
in the blog, it is even more confusing... but real.

This may be a newsletter where best to just look at the photos
and avoid, not all in life is necessary to see or read.

WIKI CONFERENCE
Wiki Help Me Wiki
Frankfurt, Germany

I am lying in bed; the man above, obviously way gone into geek
land starts to scream in his sleep,

“Help Me, Help Me.”

I do want to help him; I am wondering if he is certifiably crazy
or certifiably genius or going both ways.

This is me, a.k.a. Andy a Hobo attending the Wikipedia.org
convention, I am sure I belong here, although who was it,
Groucho Marx said,

“I do not want to be a member of any club that would have
someone like me as a member.”

I am sure the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz pointed me in
the wrong direction and there is a mistake. Yes, Samuel from
Harvard invited me, or recommended I attend because of my
fascination with Encyclopedias, however who knows about Harvard,
they would not allow me in there either, Samuel does seem to fit in well
at the Wiki, while I was or am quickly losing touch with why I am here.

I was a guy that played all the sports, however in the deep recesses
of my mind I had a subliminal desire to be a nerd, now I am in this
word and world, saying to myself,
“Help Me!”

Wiki is a form of Genius, and is capturing the greatest value
of the internet, the ability for the reader to "Interact."

This translated means you can read a page on the internet
then if you can make a comment on the page, you can act
on your ideas and contribute.

This is Wiki or some quotes from the convention.

"Wiki creates an Asset"
"Readers create the relations
"Peer review"
"Philosophy of maximizing participation"
"Biggest social constructed knowledge base in the world"

The Wiki world has created a place where you can go and
add to the knowledge of the planet, all the world working together
to make a better Encyclopedia.
http://www.wikipedia.org

Note I am not playing with the Wiki formula, and trying to see
if I can now create place for Hoboes to play with Travel Ideas
as we are speaking there is WikiHobo.com becoming a site.
It is nothing now, however we can have fun I hope, I plan on
letting this be the place where travel is discussed by all my fellow
Hoboes out there around the planet.

JERUSALEM, Israel
An Un-Holy Place

There is temptations in the world, some are evil and some are
good, some are like Ice Cream and others are confusing.

I do not feel guilty and do not feel a need to go searching for God;
I do feel a need to do my daily best to be a good boy and an
example, probably a need to make my Father and Mother proud
of their boy, and for sure not to lose their respect.

However if I was searching for God, I suppose I would go up on
some mountain and maybe it would be easier, however the last
place I am going to go or would recommend going to find God is
Jerusalem or the Holy Lands as some call it, I am finding there is
a strange lacking in the sense or feeling of the “Holy,” I do get
this distinct feeling of anger, a massive anger under the surface
and always ready to explode, since I live, eat, and survive at the
behest of my survival instincts, and they seem to be blaring, the
sirens are screaming,
“Get out of here, go to the Beach!”

I do not think you will find God in a place, I am baffled as to how you
would find a God in a city, a place, a Church, Temple or Mosque,
I see them as places where you may find a lot of people searching
for a God, however it appears to me that no God with a Big G on
his or her chest (hehehe) does not need to be found, more likely
I just need to say,
“Hello. Are you with me?”
(Some will find you are talking to yourself.)

Seems pretty simple, however then again, I do not argue with the
authorities and especially I do not argue with my conscious, I have
lost that battle to many times in my life and will forever hold the scars,
I now accept my conscious is the winner and I obey, I do my best to
be a good boy.

The bottom line is you all out there in ether or internet land want to
know about Israel, or Jerusalem, or Palestine or Middle East or
Holy Lands or in my notion the Un-Holy Lands, there is so many
names, who could be bothered to figure this all out, however there
are some really great or interesting buildings and architecture and
museums if you can stay away from people and not talk, or best
avoid the temptations to understand.

This place is a mess because three Major Religions, Judaism,
Christianity and Islam all claim their God has given them ownership of
these lands. So this is the endless fight and I will stop there, I think the
hilarious part is really all three religions start out with the exact
same God, and they just split him up after that, so they are all
saying Hello on a daily basis to the same God, what a mess,
and confusing.

Here is the skinny or bottom lines, and why this place is mostly
just a battle ground for people with glossy eyes, and righteous
indignation, a great place for the Granola for Lunch Bunch and
the Tie Dye, Save the World, fix myself, then I want to fix you people,
For me, I am just annoyed and ready to find a beach, where the
Sun Gods will bless me and tan me, and make me smile.

As I always say, before you start reading the claims, or as
I quote from the Five Man Electrical Band,
"Thank you, Lord, for thinkin'
'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine."

As Andy the HoboTraveler.com says, a.k.a. ME says,
“Life is Good.”

The arguments are over these claims: hehehe
I am laughing are they making a Claim for “Gold or God or Good?”
this argument have been going on for about 3000 years,
so nothing new…

All this information came out of my Encarta Encyclopedia and
I am finding the Wikipedia.org Encyclopedia lacking in sufficient
clarity to explain, however extremely good for isolated or strange
terms, and the general I am staying with my Encarta and its more
restrained editors. Thanks Encarta. (2)

JEWISH CLAIM
(1000-961 bc)
“Judaism, religious culture of the Jews (also known as the people
of Israel); one of the world’s oldest continuing religious traditions.”(2)

“According to the Bible, David brought the sacred Ark of the
Covenant to Jerusalem from Qiryat Ye’arim (a holy place of the time,
west of Jerusalem) and installed it in a new tabernacle, built a royal
palace and other buildings, and strengthened the city’s fortifications.
Although David greatly expanded the Kingdom of Israel and made
Jerusalem its capital,” (2)

CHRISTIAN CLAIM
(0 Birth of Christ - Jesus Crucified or Executed in Jerusalem.)
“The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is also located in the Old City.
It stands on the site where many Christians believe Jesus Christ
was buried (some Protestants hold that the burial site was in the
Garden Tomb, located outside the walls of the city). Christians
have traditionally held the site to be the hill of Golgotha, or Calvary,
where the crucifixion of Jesus Christ occurred;” (2)

ISLAMIC CLAIM:
(ad 570 Muhammad)

Third Holiest Site
“The Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque, both located
on the Temple Mount, constitute Islam’s third holiest site, after
Mecca and Medina.” (2)

~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS - Back to top

Living with Friends

The best way to lose a friend, a great way to save money, or
both at the same time. A friend is not a lover; they do not
make excuses on how to forgive you for them obnoxious
behaviors you have, like leaving the cap off the toothpaste.
There is a limit and then they figure your too annoying and
throw you out.

The secret to living with friends is…
“Leave 10 days before your friendship ends.”

This means you will still be friends or some weird relationship will still exist.
There is this tendency among travelers to invite other travelers to their
home. Normally in 90 percent of the cases, they only got drunk together,
please never visit a person for this reason.

The person that you always seem to be walking around the city with,
looking, and talking, with is the person to go visit. I am not sure to visit family
in distant countries is even a good idea; friendships and family are
hard to replace. Living with another person is a great way to end it quickly.

So with my secret ingredient.
“Leave 10 days before your friendship ends.”

How do we know when it is 10 days before the friendship ends?

Most important is number one.

1. You are asking yourself many times a day if it is time to leave, then
the answer is yes, do it now before you lose your friend. This question
would not be in your mind if there were not a problem.

What are the signs of problems?

2. You friend stays away.
- They stay at work extra long.
- They stop at friends on the way home.
- They have shopping they need to do alone.
They are avoiding you.

3. Comments about how you live.
- Telling you to clean up after yourself.
- Telling you to put the cap back on the toothpaste.
They are telling you how you are different from them.

4. Removing you corner or space.
When you move into a home, flat, apartment or in any way share a
dwelling with another human it is customary for the person to make
a private area for you, the most common is they say,
“This is your room.”

Alternatively, they can say this is your shelves, this is the place to
store you bags, this is the place to keep you valuables, however
in the end they grant you the right to use this area as you own.

- When they take this back, it is time to leave.
How do you know they are taking it back their home and moving you out?
- They are moving your possessions.
- They are asking you to organize your possessions.
- They are walking into “Your Room” and doing things.

5. TIME
What is valuable to a person is time, the cost of the room or sharing
of their home with you is not a big deal, the problem is they feel a
need to share time with you. When they are planning their time,
when they must think about you and how to plan their time, it is
becoming a problem. When you are talking with your friend and
an issue of time comes up, then this could be a signal or sign,
please empathize they had a life before you came that did not
include you, there is no right on your part to now take up 25
percent of their time.

6. Entering and Leaving.
There is a need for freedom, you are a tourist and need to
have a key, or way to enter and leave the property easily, you
should not feel restrained, if you do, there may be some trust
problems and you may wish to separate.

7. Laundry not provided.
This is a problem, a subtle or not to subtle way of saying to leave,
if you cannot maintain you life then how can you stay, you need to
clean you body; you clothes, and maintain the world. I am often
amazed at the Hotels and Hostels that more or less force me to
choose to leave because they provide no easy way to clean my
clothes, I must leave for convenience.

8. Money is discussed.
If all of sudden you are hearing comments about the cost of the food,
or the cost of the heat, air-conditioning or you feel that they are
thinking about the money it cost to provide a place to live. It is time to
leave for sure, this is or will become a quick resentment, the person
does not feel they have the money to give you or does not wish to
pay for you, this can be remedied many times by paying for the
room or giving extraordinary amounts of free lunches and gifts,
however often the complaint about money is not the real problem.

9. Others are attacking!
Others, you know the wife, the roommate, the kids, the others in the
Home beside your good friend who asked you, the friend might be
in love with you and you can find that the “others” in the home have
no use of you.
- Time to leave when you are getting small attacks or hearing the
snide remarks or sarcasm from the others in the home.

10. Guide to the City problem.
This is in many ways the worst situations that arise for me as a traveler,
I will go and visit a friend and suddenly they are the tour guide of the
world. I am then taken on 8-hour excursions to visit all the places you
friend believes is necessary to see in their area of the planet. I can
only be a tourist about two hours per day and living with friends can be
torture, I must or am required to walk around, drive around looking and
being a tourist eight hours per day. I am a 365-day a year tourist, I can
only do the actual touristy thing about two hours per day, after that I am
very bored.

- Failure
When the person does not feel you are interested in the city, their
country, their tourist attraction and worst offence possible on the planet!

“YOU DO NOT WANT TO EAT THEIR FOOD OR DRINK THEIR BEER.”

The person or your great friend thinks…
“I am a failure, I cannot help him or she, this person does not like me or this place.”

JUST TAKE IT

11. Necessity stays.
This is when you are visiting a place that you could never afford, and
you need to live with this person or do not visit. In my opinion this stay
is doomed to be no more than 3 days, this is the only

12 Buying the right to live with a friend, I would say this is better and
relieves you of any guilt in the future, I would rather pay for the right to
rent a room or place to sleep with my friend and then they cannot say,
“You came and ate my food, use my home and just took from me.”

13. Obligations and patience.
Do not obligate your host to do something for you, it is very important
that they do zero work to provide you a room, however be very patient
and understanding, this is difficult, there is a needed compromise on
both sides.

14. NO IS RUDE - Say yes, but mean no.
Alternative to no is needed and the tone of you voice is a problem,
you are living in another culture often and you need to be careful, words are
not often understood, however the tone and the way you say things are,
so be extra careful.

15. Don’t fix their house.
Just a thought, do not go around and change or offer to fix their home,
I can do a lot of carpentry work, I find this is an insult to the owners,
I want to offer, now I know this is a bad idea, I just live with what they offer.

Finally after all these idea and comments, I would recommend you go
find a cheap room and avoid living with your friends, most of the time
it will cause a problem and better to keep the friend, and lose the money.

Have fun! Life is Good!

As always, these are suggestions. Please realize I am
giving guidance, and there are always other opinions.
“One mans paradise, is another mans hell”
This way we do not all go to the same place.
