How I feel today, or a start down
the proverbial travelers path.

his old familiar pillow."

ISTANBUL TURKEY

Oops... Changed my mind again.
Forget Prague! And lets go.
I purchased my plane ticket for Istanbul, Turkey
and can enter Iraq in less than a month.
Lets go to the show and forget the foreplay.
I leave on July 14th, 2003.

For 740 Dollars US I purchased a ticket
to Istanbul, Turkey. I would say that is just about
the maximum you ever need to pay to go to anywhere
in Europe. If your travel agent says different
say the "WORD" real loud...
"CONSOLIDATOR"
Explained in tip number 34:
http://www.hobotraveler.com/newstips034.php

APOCALYPSE NOW (Movie)
Remember one of the opening scenes where
Martin Sheen is rolling around the bed in an
alcoholic haze and deliriously drunk on
old memories.

He says,
"When I was here, I wanted to be there. When I was
there, all I could think of was getting back into the
jungle. I'm here a week now. I'm waiting for a
mission - getting softer. Every minute I stay in
this room, I get weaker. And every minute Charlie
squats in the bush, he gets stronger. Each time
I looked around, the walls moved in a little tighter."

I feel the same.
I have rented too many movies, and have broken.
I ate a whole box of Butter Pecan Ice Cream
the other night with Cheerios on top.
I have gained 30 pounds
or about 15 Kilos here in the USA.
"Each time I looked around, the walls moved in
a little tighter."

Travel is an addiction.
I need my fix.

~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS

VELCRO STRAPS
Fasten, tie, wrap, bind, bundle...

Packing and unpacking.
The daily chore of a traveler.
Wrapping the your world into little bundles
and stuffing it into a backpack or suitcase.

How many of you say to yourself,
"There is too much!"
The monotony of packing your bag.
Living out of a suitcase.

I have lived out of my backpack for the
last 6 years, so there are time when I wish
that I was home in a room of my own.

Most people need to go home.
To relieve the stress.

It take less than 10 minutes now for me to pack.
After I invented my backpack organizer
life became very easy. (Tip Number 73)
http://www.hobotraveler.com/newstips073.php

But...
I still have lots of loose items.
Every item is a movement.
Small things take a lot of time.
So the solution is to tie them up or put
in containers to protect or store.

VELCRO STRAPS
Take a look, so you know what I am talking
about before I start talking about the Velcro straps.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/115velcrostraps.shtml

There are still lot of small things.
(The Europeans hate when American uses
the word things or stuff, but so be it...)
The Velcro strap is the solution.
Rubber bands melt, and break.
Twist ties rust.
Rope is just slow and gets knotted.

I became a fan of Velcro tape after my
digital camera broke, and the batteries
kept falling out. I wrapped it up with electrical
tape, and the tape slowly loosened. I wrapped
it up with Velcro Straps, and it was ready
to go and stayed that way.

USE FOR:
Books
Tent Stakes
Connectors on sides of backpack.
Pens and pencils
Computer Cords.
Electric
Telephone
Socks and underwear.
Glass cases
etc.

Sorry. I cannot tell you how to buy easily.
Look in the Hardware department of large
department stores. This is not a common item
and I gear shops do not seem to see a need for
items like this that really help.

ADDENDUM ADDED: January 10, 2004
I had an email from a good friend. He made the assumption
that this is just normal Velcro. I want people to realize.
This is double-side material. On one side is the soft and the
other side is the prickly sticky stuff all on one piece.
You cannot just go buy this in the store.
I think he got irritated when I disagreed that you can buy it
in just any sewing store and he was not reading my email closely.
I think about this on occasion. Look at the photos very carefully.

As always, these are suggestions. Please realize I am
giving guidance, and there are always other opinions.
“One mans paradise, is another mans hell”
This way we do not all go to the same place.
