How to understand local transportation - Buses, Trolleys,
Trains, Underground, Subways
For Travellers and Tourist
INSIDE THE CITY
If you pay attention to a city you can recognize the patterns of how the
local transportation works.
Types:
- ROUTES: This is from spot to spot or maybe you would say from here to
there, or from specific location to specific location. This is the worst type,
and most difficult. If you do not have a map it is impossible to understand.
This is really how inter-city buses travel, but the local buses run differently.
- CIRCLES: This is a great way to take a tour of a city. You can get on
at one point an it will go in a circular route and return eventually to the same
location. This is a great way to ride a bus and easiest to keep from getting
lost. Example: Acapulco, Mexico
- STRAIGHT LINE: A bus or trolley may go say North to South. You hop on
on one end and it will take you to the other end. You buy another ticket and you
can return. Example: Quito, Ecuador
- SAY YOUR DESTINATION: Bus shuttles and in small cities they may work
like this, or sometime a collective taxi will work like this. You are going
toward a REGION or AREA and everyone in the vehicle tells where they are going,
and the driver will pull up to your location. This is normally in small cities
and not large. Sort of a taxi for 20 people and will drop off people where they
wish to go.
There are probably more, and if you wish please write me, but please tell me
what page your are referring to or the actual link is best. I have thousands of
pages.
