Exercising and Travel

Exercising and Travel

I am not 22, life is not the same as when I was 22, I am excessively introspective, both a curse and a wonder. When I was 22, I could live on my laurels, everything was simple, I did nothing and excelled.

I would like to be as physically fit as I was when I was 22, however, I have every excuse to not be, I suppose I take every excuse also.

I am not sure what to do; I can sit here and list all the excuses why it is difficult to exercise when I am traveling. Since, I never stop traveling, and then the excuses never stop. No point in listing excuses, that is the problem.

THIRD FLOOR
I am on the third floor of the hotel, I normally try to get on the first level, I just do not like going up and down the step, five times per day, or more.

I have been climbing the stair two steps at a time, trying to exercise my thighs.

What do I do in the next hotel? What do I do when there is only one floor?

This is the nature of excuses; there is always an excuse, why I will not exercise in the next city and hotel.

No excuses.

However, I also need to have options and choices, when I am ready to take one of them excuses; I need the alternative, the best choice that will allow me to not take the excuse.

I can live on the third floor and get some exercise or I can move to the first, this is a choice.

I am making a list of ways to exercise, I am making a list of choices, and the bottom line is there is no excuse.

Alcoholic Haze

I left my hotel, went for a stroll in the Khao San Road area of Bangkok, Thailand. It was maybe about 7:00 in the morning, the time after the sun comes up and some people decide to stop drinking, and wander on home. This Thailand boy was way over the edge, or seemed to be, there is a certain intelligence or ability of a person that stands up his guitar and beer bottle.

I saw him later lying in a pile by some construction materials. Then, I went out again today, the next day and saw him again, lying in a heap.

He is very dirty, I personally do not like to talk with people that are on the other side of sanity, and that also means on the other side of clean. However, every night, behind the Wat on Khao San Road I observe many persons sitting on the streets with some of the most obnoxious and dirty Thailand people in existence. Every place and every country has the crazy, the over the edge, the people that really are going nowhere, however here on Khao San Road, they have a home.

Ants in My Bed

Ants in My Bed

Maybe a solution:
1. Baby Powder to get them out of the bed.
2. Set up a perimeter around the bed with what you can find in the country you are in...

These are choices:
Cayeen pepper
Ground Cinnamon
Borax (Laundry Section)
Bay Leaf
Catnip
Spearmint
White vinegar

I am hyper-sensitive, I can feel the ants, they are in my bed. I am now on the Full Moon Party beach of Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand.

I am not in the cheap hotel, I am in the all concrete, 450 Baht room, I cannot buy to Ant Control... aagh.

Ok, wood rooms are way beyond my abilty to work with, I need a good, normal on the planet concrete room to make headway.

Hot Springs Chris has been recommending Pepper to me for years, however, how do I put pepper around my whole room. I have decide it is possible to reduce the space free from ants, I am setting up a perimeter around my bed only, I will now only set up my bed in the center of the concrete floor, then use pepper and other easy to find products.

Then, how to get out of my bed? I hope baby powder will work..?

I think, I hope I have a solution, in many ways this comes down to the problem, if I spray the room, I will be sleeping in a smelly, insect repellant room. I do not want to spray my bed with insect repellant.

I do not know, however these two pages are helpful.

This is like a tip in progress, one of these days I will figure out the right combination to make my life free from ants in my bed.

Fake Onward Tickets

Fake Onward Tickets

Many countries require an onward ticket to enter, I was just nicked in the Singapore Airport when flying to the Philippines. This is a requirement for visas, entry, etc, and I think a windfall of profits for a travel agent.

There are many reasons to require and onward ticket and none are very good.

1. Force you to buy a ticket from that company on the spot.
2. Keep out the trash... hehehe
3. Help a travel agent to make more money.

I probably could go on and on, however the new system that has evolved is to fake tickets, with the invention of the e-ticket it has become easier.

Many travel agents will assist... if you travel agent does not know how to do so, they are either stupid or dishonest. They should say, I know how to, but I will not do so, it they do not know how to do so, then for sure you need a better agent.

There are these small pouches that travel agents put their tickets inside of, it you snag a few of them, you can make a good fake ticket.

I do not like to encourage people to fake tickets, nonetheless the reasons to have an onward ticket are pretty bad, I feel in many ways the travel agents have conspired for this idea.

Note congratulations Craig with Travelvice.com

Hotwire.com Newsletter Unsubscribe Problem

Hotwire.com Newsletter Problem

I have been subscribed to a newsletter by Hotwire.com for years, I never read it, decided to un-subscribe in my big push to clean my inbox of unwanted emails.

I do this very complicated un-subscribe thing and it says,

This is the idea, however not correct words, but close...

Our TOS - Terms of Service or the privacy policy has given us the right to continue to send you emails and advertisements.

I could not believe a big company would do this.

NOW, I need to click them now as a SPAM or Spammer when I receive spam from them.

This too complicated to believe un-subscribe stuff is annoying, there are many big companies that have no ethics whatsoever.

I go around and around with my techie on the need to have an easy un-subscribe, there is a problem with one-click types as some people accidentally click and ooops, however it should be easy, not hard to un-subscribe.

I will not do business with companies like this, it is annoying to think. Well, I never did, hotwire.com is like expedia, not good deals.

2400 Baht from Koh Samu to Bangkok Thailand
300 Baht Airport Fee
150 Baht for Boat from Koh Pha Ngan to Samui
50 Baht for Taxi Truck from Samui Dock to Airport

I am flying with Bangkok Airlines.
http://www.bangkokair.com

I could have gotten an AirAsia.com from Suratani to Bangkok for about 1500 Baht, then paid about 650 for boat, but the boat is 4 hours and I got motion sick 5 times on the boat coming here because the wave are big now, for some reason...
http://www.airasia.com/

I suppose a saving of about 1000 baht or more.

The bus trip from Khao San Road Bangkok all the way to Koh Pha Ngan Island complete with boat was 450 Baht one-way. It took from 5;45 PM in the afternoon to almost noon the next day to get to the island, you can get cheap.

I am leaving from Samui at about 10:00 at night and got my first reservation ever in Thailand, because it is Christmas and I am hope it works. Note, I did not have to use a credit card or anything to reserve the room, go figure, I am going to show up, but I know travelers, they jsut do not care, they will stiff the hotel. I arrive at 12 midnight, no way to rent the room after that time, unless to a lady boy and guest.

Hobo TRAVEL TIPS - Koh Pha Ngan Thailand - TIP Is the Hotel Clean

I wrote my newsletter from Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand an island in southern Thailand. I was almost finished, yet needed to check out of my dive hotel at 11:00. Since the hotel had no common area I wondered around for a few hours until the boat left for Koh Samui.

I finally finished the letter in the Koh Samui airport lounge, just before I left for Bangkok on the Bangkok Airlines flight.

I did not receive a copy of my own email newsletter, I am amazed at the amount of decisions that are being made by the telephone companies, hosting companies, and NON governmental type companies on what is allowed to be sent.

I am annoyed and feel a violation of my civil rights is happening when I cannot guarantee a letter or email sent from one location on the planet to another will actually make it there, because some power that be decides for me. I cannot guarantee I can send to myself!

Choice are being made by people that are not correct.

If email is to one day become a priority mail, the regulations need to be developed, that also say and demand what types of emails must go through.

All the big telephone companies, host, and emails service companies have become the censors. People complain about the governments, yet in reality, it is better to have an open, public ally accountable government perform this, rather than Verizon, or Yahoo.com, Google.com or the thousands of other self appointed censors.

Even in my own company decisions are made on what and cannot enter, I am aware of my own weakness in this matter, how do we allow all emails to be sent, yet somehow stop the unscrupulous senders of emails.

In the end, there is a need to allow more and stop less, otherwise the rights of the one, are violated for the sake of the whole.

Rules made without extreme testing are a limit to freedoms.

I do business with people over the internet, after 10 years of doing business by emails, I think I have found an identifier of a Pro.

A professional seldom loses information, for example, if I send an address, username, password, etc, they do not write later and want me to send again.

It does not matter if one day or two years, they are able to file and retrieve information.

Just a thought, when you are paying someone to do an internet site or page.

Hotel Key Card Turn on Electricity

Hotel Key Card Turn on Electricity

I am annoyed, I entered a new hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, it has the super modern put a little card into the slot as you enter the room and all the electricity works.

When you leave, you pull the card out of the slot, all the electricity is shut off.

99 percent of the time, I can separate the card from the key, or use a piece of cardboard to keep the electricity running 100 percent of the time.

This hotel got to smart, they have the expensive bar that does not allow anything but the plastic bar. Then they soldered or welded the key to the round circle of metal or key ring. I cannot open it or pry it open and remove the key. It is connected permanently, very smart, but too smart.

Why I need electricity in my room 100 percent of the time

1. Keep the air conditioned room at steady temperature. The furniture or rooms heat up or cool off, a room that is not constantly cooled, or heated, then has a problem with fluctuations. A room is much more comfortable when always as the same temperature.

2. Charge my batteries for camera. I want a steady six hour or until finished of charge.

3. Charge my cell phone.

I do not need to charge my computer, it is almost always plugged in, the battery of a computer that last only 2 hours is more or less useless. When they get me up to 8 hours of use, it will be worth worrying about the charge.

I am hopefully going to compile and create my list of Top Travel Sites of 2006, therefore I am worried...

2006 is ending in a few days.
Last years picks were:
http://www.hobotraveler.com/toptravelwebsite2005.shtml

I go to google.com and search for terms like - Best - Top - etc and hope to find something I did not notice or remember.

I am a difficult person, hard to recommend something that I do not use and I see that most of the recommendations by these sites.... I feel or am sure the writer never used in his or her life. But, they sounded good, had the right credentials and had the proper style.

I am a traveler, I spent over 335 t0 345 days outside the USA last year ,and the year before, but doe this count? I am not sure....

(Whistle Blowing in background)

We need a ruling, what is a the "Travel Rules" on what qualifies a person as a traveler?
Do we first need to decide, are you a traveler or a tourist?
http://www.hobotraveler.com/2005/04/traveler-versus-tourist.html

I am traveler, I do not have 24/7 Internet connections.

What I will recommend and continue to recommend are sites that I use, not what sounds good and for sure sites that are impossible to use in an Internet cafe in 15 minutes.

I have been perusing the sites, and most are not useful, they are fun, there is a huge difference, however do TOURIST have needs? Give them another beer please.

I have essential safety needs, planning needs, and go to dangerous places sometimes, there is a difference between need and a luxury tour.

So, I use site for information mostly, answering the questions, that need an answer.

Oh well, maybe the other sites are written by travel writers, I always wonder what the are doing at home in this high tech age of travel, Don't they earn enough money to travel, or are all trips free or given to them for them saying nice things...

Andy Stay Pure

Andy Stay Pure

I had a girl I met in Guatemala 8 years ago say to me one time to stay pure. I think about this comment, and try to understand what she means. I had another conversation last night with a person that reads my writing and said something about me not being part of a big company, therefore she trusted my opinion more.

I am musing on this, however, I think the gist of the statements is they do not want me too, or they do not think I am selling out to the big companies, whatver that means. I do not like this, as if there is only one choice to be made. To keep something pure, there has to be a constant introspection, and the daily choice.

Today is CHRISTMAS.

I suppose a great day to stop and think, I am in Thailand and for sure it is not a white Christmas, there is little in this Buddhist country that makes me know today is Christmas

I get angry sometimes, last night I could have rented and watched the movie, UNITED 93
about the crash of the September 11 plane downed by the terrorist.
I said,
- No -
- I do not want to get angry. -
My friend said,
- Why would you get angry? -
I said,
- Nobody gets to F... with my country.-

I just do not know how I am relating this to Christmas, and a comment to stay pure, or how not to sell out to the big companies.

I guess, most people make too many compromiises, and Christ and all the good Gods say to be pure, be a good boy, do the right thing.

I hope or wish people could remember to do the right thing today. It is not hard to be honest, you must avoid temptations. The choice to be pure comes way before the actual chance to make some compromise.

Somewhere along the line, I have made the choice to respect myself.
- Nobody gets to F... with me being honest..-

Checklist of GPRS Questions

Checklist of GPRS Questions

I am trying to stage a trip across Africa, from Ethiopia to Senegal by land,

The site MobileAfrica.net is very GOOD, yet I am still having questions.

Example: But NOT a complete list of questions
I need answer on the countries?

1. Is GPRS available
2. Is EDGE available
3. Location of office where I can go and set it up, have them test it, and guarantee it works.
4. Cost to set up.
5. Cost to use per Meg, hour, etc
6. Can it be on pre-paid SIM card, that I purchase in the country?

Contracts are of NO value to me, unless they can do many countries.
I go to Africa about February 14, 2007, I think I will purchase a Satellite connection to use, but want a GPRS to be cheaper.

The goal is to blog every day from any where on the planet, the only 100 percent sure signal is maybe a satellite, and I have learn that is not always true.

The time is takes to set up the GPRS sometimes is onerous, it can be days to get a connection to work. I am going to try to perform the same process as I do in Thailand, I go directly to the office of AIS and have them set up the connection.

I need to take this checklist now and answer them for all the countries in my path.

Visa problems...
I want to know where every Embassy or Consulate in the world is for the country of Sao Tome?

I am planning a trip to Africa, as of today I wish to enter Nairobi, Kenya and go by land to Gabon and so forth.

Visa sites are annoying as they assume you are in your native country, for me this is the USA, however, I am not in the USA, therefore the Visa perspective changes.

I need a website that tells me... for example:

I need the location of all Sao Tome Embassies or Consulates in other countries, so maybe if I am close to one, I can go, but this scenario exist for all the countries. I am not interested in where they are located in the USA, I want to know in other countries.

Certified Copy of Passport

Certified Copy of Passport

I opened up the Canadian governments travel advisory pages on Burkina Faso.

I the body of information it says,
"Travellers should always carry a legally certified photocopy of their passport's identification page"

I have never heard of this, only a certified copy of a Birth Certificate, never a passport.

I searched on Yahoo.com because Google.com is slow or down because of the earthquake in Taiwan for these phrase with code to get better results.

"Legally Certified Photocopy" + Passport
"Legally Certified Copy" + Passport
"Certified Copy" Passport
A BAD Yahoo Answers to the question

In my rational, there is no such thing, it is just a good idea.

In the USA, I would go make a copy in front of a Notary Public and have him or her acknowledge that this is my statement, that this is a copy of my passport, that would be legal.

But who cares, that is only legal for the USA, a notarized page is only good in the country whereby it was signed.

IF I wanted a certified copy in Burkina Faso, I would have do whatever they do for the Notary thing in their country and sign a statement.

I went to get a Notarized thing of my signature in Canada, and realized. or finally discovered, I need to go to the USA Embassy to have papers notarized.

I am working on a tip on how to make a copy of your passport and then shrink, put plastic on it and then carry in your wallet or billfold or wherever.

I keep getting copies and they disintegrate over time, I need something in plastic.

An American Citizen or a Canadian Citizen can get away without a passport on them, yet a person from Ecuador, in Burkina Faso, better have their original passport on them all the time.

Note, I almost never carry my passport, except when there are military checkpoints like I encountered in Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) Africa.

Canadians spell traveller with one L and Americans spell Traveler with one.

Note: Any answer that is not obvious, is never a good answer. The idea of carrying a legally certified copy of passport is a bad idea and not feasible.

Quote from Tony Blair

Quote from Tony Blair

Addendum Note:
It is possible this quote is not correct, I Andy of HoboTraveler.com have no way find out the truth, the general gist of the quote is correct, yet I am not able to validate.
The message, what is the thoughts of value?
"That more people want the USA."

When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America, he said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want
in... And how many want out."

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ
2. The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

END QUOTE

Hmm, Jac sent the quote from Tony Blair to me, and I thank him.

I am thinking...
A simple way to measure the value of advice..
There are people that do things.
There are people who complain about people who do things.
Take advice from the person who is doing something.
From me... Andy

No Convenience Stores

No Convenience Stores

I am thinking of giving up convenience stores as a New Years Resolution.

I am trying to give up processed food, and it simpler to think this way. The next problem, places like Thailand thrive on the 7/11 and it is very difficult to find a regular grocery store.

I will be able to go to restaurants and street food, plus the extremely healthy open markets in most countries on the planet, at least 80 percent, the cheaper, called poorer, but sometimes much better.

I think the defacto result is I will lose weight. One by having less salt, and second because I eat less conveniently...

I am complaining to myself because I cannot access or surf any of the USA websites, however, I am sure many people are in panic.

Why is my son or daughter not writing me?

Gmail.com and it appears any Google.com related site, including my blogger.com is not working or barely working if it does in much of Asia.

I use blogger.com to publish this blog. The only way it works, is if I blog by email, I send an email to the blogger, com system and it publishes.

Yahoo Mail is working, this is not a good day for Gmail.com.. oops.

I am working on the end of year, Top Travel Sites of 2006, I need to do research, connect the dots, make sure links work, and many things everyone is always complaining I do badly and now I am unable to even work on it.

But, this is not as important as some mother on the other side of the planet in a panic because there son or daughter has not written.

I am reading and it is expected that it will take between two week and three weeks to repair this fiber optic wire off the coast of Taiwan that was broken. I am not sure, maybe it is an earthquake, maybe it is a fishing boat that cut the cable. Most information in English comes from the USA and those side are not up and at em.. hehehe

So much for CNN... oh well, who wanted to know what is going on anyway, I for sure am too aware of what is wrong with the planet, I am happier with less news.

HoboTraveler.com seems to be up, but it is located on a host in Wales, or maybe Ireland, there is some questions by me...

75,000 people killed in mass graves by Saddam Hussein

I left Khon Kaen, Thailand and traveled on a night bus to Bangkok, Thailand. It is now about 7:27 in the morning, I connected up with my GPRS connection and read,

- Official: Saddam to Be Executed Tonight -

I personally witnessed a mass grave site of 2500 Iraq people, on August 3, 2003 when I visited Iraq shortly after the major fighting stopped.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/122_07baghdad04.shtml

I have dwelled on the issue of "how many people," for a couple of years now. At the time I was in Iraq, they said there were about 30 more of these graves found around the country.

Therefore, 30 x 2500 is 75,000

This is my personal estimate as a witness to Saddam atrocities.

History will hopefully explain this better than the present day media, yet it appears to me that lead by President Bush and the American Soldiers, with the help of the Coalition of willing to protect the world countries, we have stopped a mass murderer.

Saddam has a legacy, he will now enter the ranks of Hitler, and Pol Pot and will forever be compared to them.

Photos and some explanations.

WIFI In Hotel Room in Bangkok

WIFI In Hotel Room in Bangkok

Ridiculous amounts of work to use WIFI, but I seem to have WIFI signal in my room here off of Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand. Moved into one, and moved down to a room that functioned when it became available.

The only way to get WIFI to work in the room with off the shelf WIFI routers is to have a room within 10 feet of the router, or less...

Concrete walls stops the signal!

They advertise WIFI in the room, and I never believe until I check the room, the signal and somehow get room very close if not line of site of the WIFI router.

I am in the hotel, behind the Wat, on the little street leading towards the river. The hotel is on the right and has a 24 hour Internet cafe in front.

Oh well, it is the Erawan Hotel, I do not like to give my address normally, but this is a ridiculously hard thing to find. The room is 850 Baht and not cheap, the price is shared so I guess it is 425, still not cheap. A cheap room on Khao San is less than 220 Baht.

WIFI Suck
Give me an Ethernet wire in my room any day.

I have found very few room on the planet where I have Internet access in my room in a room that cost less than 25 dollars, less than 10 is almost never. I call this the old bait and switch.

The good part is with 24 hour Internet cafe in front, I have a backup, there are some issue of having a large website, that needs a great connection, at least every few months.

I go to Africa soon, and I expect the worst.

I happened upon a great extreme travel journey of two people on a Motorcycle. I believe they are Australian and their trip is great.

Please look at the map of their trip, and then you can see the magnitude of this

I do not like to read travel books, I do not like to read travel blog, however the wisdom or true experience in these page tells me these people know, as William Sutcliffe would say,

Last night a few hours before midnight about seven bombs exploded in Bangkok, not sure, could be six. Nonetheless, there we some bombs, as of now, there are two dead, and up to 30 wounded.

All is good in the Khao San Road area, it will be intriguing to see how travelers deal with this.

Last night because of the huge language difference, most travelers were obvious to the bombings and continued to party. Few Thais really speak with the Foreigners, only the girls in tow, I suppose the Sukumvit area where there more "girls in tow" the men understood what happened.

The information did not disseminate down quickly as best I can tell, my guess is very few people were watching either Thai TV which was covered with the reports, or the BBC, CNN news reports.

Therefore it did not stop the party, however some larger areas or venue were shut down by either Thai police of Thai Soldiers.

It is all mostly gossip at this time, however it will be interesting to see if there is a mass exodus from Bangkok. I leave on the 5th of January, have a ticket reserved, so easy for me to leave, because I was already leaving.

Fear is an interesting thing, I truly believe getting caught up in a terrorist bombing is almost impossible odds. I for sure believe I can get hit by a crazy Thai driving a car, that is my big worry of danger.

I told one American friend and said, probably not a good time to go into large bars.

No Convenience Stores
0r Snack Stands.

I am making a new years resolution, I have been testing the idea for a few days. In the endless goal of trying to control my weight, I wish to give up snack food, chips, peanuts, cookies or other processed type food.

It is good idea, simple, however I will need to carry water as this is my big temptation, to walk into a local small store and buy water.

The amount of salt intake has dropped dramatically.

I had my teeth cleaned at the Khon Kaen University Dentist school, the cost was 400 Baht. This is about 11 USA Dollars as I believe the Baht exchanges at about 37 Baht or less to the dollars.

I have went to the Dentist three times in Thailand, two times in Ecuador, one time in India, and probably in places I cannot remember.

The cost has consistently been about 12 Dollars US, however the style and equipment changes. By far the University in Khon Kaen had the best cleaning tools. India was my worst experience and Ecuador was medium, Thailand has been the best.

There are many "Tourist Traps" set up around Khao San Road whereby you can pay from 1000 to 2000 Baht. I would believe and guess that they are really gouging the tourist in Koh Samui.

I read web sites about medical, cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery, buying things in other countries cheap. I have trouble reading most Expats sites as they advertise real estate for 5-10 times the real value. (Note, I was a Real Estate Broker for 14 years. ) When I talk with people on these subjects, it is like hitting a brick wall, they have some type of insane loyalty to being ripped.

Advice Opinions and Travel

Advice Opinions and Travel

I am slowly becoming a person from a culture different than the USA. My native culture is the USA, however by living outside the USA for up to 10 years, I have become a different person. We wish, I wish, I hope I could retain my own culture, yet I know this is ridiculous. I become part of everything and every person in jmy path.

No person, idea, dream, in my path can be avoided, they all reside in my memories.

More correct they leave an invisible mark on my brain, they have left a permanent scar on my brain. Maybe a tattoo on the cells of my brain, some tattoo on the brain made by choice, while others were placed there against my choice.

I think of Paul Simon the singer, he sang a song about a boxer.
- he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down -

I hope make good choice, I hope I continually choose to be the good path, I hope the punches received against my wishes miss their mark. It is so easy to become cold and jade, to turn my smile from people to hide my thought behind the blank. The blank face we use to ignore the world.

Too Cool
Thailand is known as a land of smiles, I sadly believe this is a view of the culture maybe 50 years ago and has long been lost. I see modern cold city blank dominating the faces. They have become too cool.

The face of the city person, the cold nothing, the too cool, too far away look, the impossible to breach face of persons who believe,
- I should NOT talk with you, why would you say hello to me, what give you the right to say hello to me. -

I suppose writers have obsessions, they have some type of dream of changing the world. To say the words in a way that change a person. Paul Simon said words that changed my life, not in a big way, he just nicked me and I remember the scar.

Yes, if I could, or you could, would you say the perfect sentence, give the perfect advice, opinion that would change the world. I see the - Blank - the person gave me - The Blank - as the pandemic of modern society

It could be possible that city people go to the country to find the people that will say hello to them, when nobody else still has the ability. I left a small town and go out and say hello to people.

I have this annoying habit of saying hello to all the people at the reception desk of hotels. I enjoy the looks on their face, I enjoy their confusion, I enjoy trying to break the blanks. A girl last night ask me,
- How was you day. -

She then says,
- Always good. -

She did not wait for me to reply, she put words in my mouth, This girl is on my side, when I say hello to her, she goes to extra lengths to say hello back to me, to extend the hand of friendship for no reason, except it is a good idea. She is not afraid, she is a warrior, she is not afraid, she says to me with her eyes, thanks, I appreciate your hello, I am your friend.

I had this conversation about the city of Pattaya. My friend met a couple form Pattaya that was saying he needed to go to Pattaya to the bars, in Pattaya everyone says hello. Like the show Cheers where everyone knows you name. The story of the corner bar, the local, the place where you enter and everyone says hello.

I said yes, Pattaya may be a place where everyone says hello, it is not that simple. I have never been to Pattaya and not sure I am going soon.. hehehe It is one of the Sex Tourism Capitals of the world, and probably the reason why all the girls say hello is because they want to also break you down and compel you to somehow say yes to their desire to give you friendship in return for money.

It does feel good to have everyone in the bar say hello.

But... there is no reason to wait for the other person to say hello or to go to a place where everyone says hello. Think, why do you wait for the other person to say hello, are you a blank, or are you a hello. I just beat to the punch, I smack many people in the face with a hello, try to punch that blank off their faces.

How to remove the blank from faces...?

I do not know, I hope to strive to one day say hello to everyone, somehow just forget the person next to me is trying to ignore me. What a ridiculous goal, try to ignore a possible friend, what is their quest. The really do need to drink, to drug, they need to find a way to open the door to that blank face.

I should say hello today to every person, no exceptions, I wonder how my day will be.

SONG BY PAUL SIMON

I am just a poor boy, though my storys seldom told.
I have squandered my resistance,
For a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises.
All lies and jest.
Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

When I left my home and my family I was no more than a boy,
In the company of strangers,
In the quiet of a railway station, runnin scared.
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters,
Where the ragged people go.
Lookin for the places, only they would know.

Lie-la-lie ...

Asking only workmans wages I come lookin for a job,
But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the whores on seventh avenue.
I do declare there were times when I was so lonesome,
I took some comfort there.
Oooh la, la, la ...

And the years are rollin by me.
They are rockin evenly.
I am older than I once was, and younger than Ill be.
Thats not unusual.
It isnt strange,
After changes upon changes, we are more or less the same.
After changes, we are more or less the same.

Lie-la-lie ...

Then Im laying out my winter clothes and wishing I was gone,
Going home, where the new york city winters arent bleedin me.
Leadin me, to goin home.

In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade,
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down,
Or cut him til he cried out in his anger and his shame,
I am leaving, I am leaving.
But the fighter still remains.

5:35 AM January 3, 2007

I enter many Internet cafes, and there are numerous reasons why I am not able to use Skype.com to make a phone call. I think the number one reason is the headset. I am going to try to carry my own into the Internet cafes and see if this overrides some problems.

I have now tried 10 machines, in two separate cafes. One machine that was working good, now is not. I know the location of good machine, however, it is 5:21 in the morning in Bangkok and that Internet Cafe is closed. The one lady keeps trying to give me my ten baht back, I say, that is not the goal, I want to make a phone call to the USA while the time is 5:00 in the afternoon.

The Internet cafe has the mute checked. There are two adjustments. Click the little speaker one time and a little volume thing will come up, twice and this one come up.

I am collecting problems, very difficult to find them all, however with the new labels, I can continue to collect and on this page may be all the problems I encounter.

- The Leadership Academy, which is located in Henley-on-Klip in Gauteng Province, opens on Tuesday, January 2, 2007.-

Henly on Klip appears to be about 20-25 miles south of
-Johannesburg, city in northeastern South Africa, capital of Gauteng Province-(2)

This is excellent, I am happy, a black person from the USA has made a statement. I truly feel the leadership of Africa can best be served by black persons like Oprah who have a the ability to say, look at me, I am black and you can be like me.

I was appalled at cultural beliefs I encountered in Africa, it was as if the black people of West Africa were waiting for the white man to come and save them. This is a cultural change here by Oprah saying, you can do it. Plus, I do believe women will be the leaders of Africa,

Bangkok Airport Greenhouse and Sauna

Bangkok Airport Greenhouse and Sauna
Bangkok Thailand, Southeast Asia, Bangkok Airport
January 5, 2007

I am presently in the Bangkok Airport, my Royal Nepal flight from Bangkok to Kathmandu, Nepal has been delayed for two hours.

Therefore, I appears to get to enjoy fours hours total of the Bangkok Sauna. For some reason the Thailand Bangkok Airport people have built this new greenhouse and sauna here in the tropics. It is the perfect design for a greenhouse, the sun seems to enter, and the interior heats up to supply all the travelers with a communal sauna.

This is the Mouse Trap area, you enter down the steps and enter your gate area, and there is nothing to do, but to stare at steal walls and the sides of the sauna. The former airport allowed you to buy food, watch tv, and to move about freely. This Airport seems to be designed by one of the lady boys on Khao San Road, or one of the girls in tow in the Sukhumvit area, with a way too old of man.

Levels, multiple levels, there are three levels, I was laughing as the people that retrieve cars were trying to push them up one of the inclines, I said,
- Great airport design! -
So make the fat tourist go up and down in the mouse trap, various levels does not make an airport good.

Stark, white, and who can hide from the Sun, in this airport I went to the Dairy Queen to have a Blizzard, and get into the shade, avoid getting a tan while waiting for a plane.... hmm, maybe I should just go lay out.

Note, stark white tile, does not make for a warm and cuddly world. There does not seem to be any tv stations in English, I tried them all, a couple of blue screen, that could be the holders...hehehe

No Territorial Claim in Bangkok

No Territorial Claim in Bangkok
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia

I walk in the streets of Bangkok, relaxed in the knowledge I do not need to claim my territory, I will not be tested today.

Walking in the world of West Africa I continually was challenged, embroidered in small men against men conflicts. Men and women would access me, measure me, try to see what I was made of, who, what, why I am. The test of how much they could take of me, how much I would take of them, was it possible to dominate me.

Animalistic claiming of territory is not a yes or no, it is not on and off, it is small trials, small test of my manhood.

These tests are needed in the world; however, on the continuum from savage to civilized the many-layered cake that is created is like traveling from a world of continued battle to a world where we lose the ability to fight, however safe and clear.

99 percent of the men of the world do not need to prove themselves, and that is OK, the test in the world should be optional.

Unwinding Africa

Unwinding Africa
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia
Monday, October 8, 2007

I am like a person grieving over a dead person; I can feel myself going through all the stages of the acceptance of death. I had or have great aspirations and hopes for Africa and I find myself about the same as the NGO’s and Volunteers in Africa.

- I have accomplished nothing! -

Strange, I am a person that prides myself in doing nothing well, and I continually find myself in an emotional vacuum where I need to accomplish something. There is an inherent need in man to accomplish something, some cultures, for example the Germans are obsessive in this and maybe Africa is on the bottom, lacking desire. I would say I am about 90 percent German brain, and about 10 percent African brain, therefore my mind needs to accomplish.

Accomplishing something is fools gold, what I accomplish is only important in the end to me, what I give to the world is where I will reap my real awards. I guess I know that if I give my accomplishments to the planet, the powers above me, not the weak, however the powers above me will return double.

However, even in giving, we must do it, I must accomplish, we must give to receive, and I find myself impotent in my ideas about Africa, nothing works, this is Africa, and hard to grab a string and pull on it, nothing comes of my pulling. Where is the handle, where is the grip, I just cannot seem to get my hands around Africa and say, yes, this was accomplished.

I think of the NGO’s, the only accomplishment that has obviously been accomplished in Africa is they have scared them into using Condoms. All the other nut case people, are just grabbing at straws, and telling everyone they have wagonloads of accomplishments. I feel it, they just have straws, then again when a person cannot accomplish something easily, their may not be anything to do, I mean, when something needs done, it is easy to do something. I really do not have any idea what Africa really needs, they really have what they need.

I do not think Africa needs help, I would like to do some other things in Africa, however there is a quagmire of cultural problems, that defeat independent thoughts, moreover a person has to become the king in Africa, there is no half commitments. I suppose one day Africa will decide to become parts of the outside world, and they will open the door, and that will be that, their culture will open.

Making a Record of a Culture

Making a Record of a Culture
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia
Monday, October 8, 2007

There is a timeline in cultures, there is a spot, where a culture can say, this was our time, and this was our culture. Shortly after World War II there was a uplift in the USA, the I can do it culture of the USA was taking hold, as the USA realized it was now the Alpha Male of the planet Earth, and now we are in the epic of little dog nipping at our heals. There was a time, when we said, we are this…it changes, it must.

I enjoy culture, and I am not sure if many Anthropologists are recording cultures. I think there is real time and there is history of culture. I read about cultures and think,
- That was true maybe 50 years ago, that is history, not today. -

INFORMATION LAG

There is somewhere between 10-100 years of lag time between what a person is reading about, and what is real. I am told by the read-too-much, and do-too-little intellects on the planet.
- Andy, you know they do this, or they do that. -

I think,
- Yes, they did about 50 years ago, and you have read a lot, please go outside and look around, please. -

Reading is good, but real time, real truth is, well, it is the reality and there is a big difference between some offbeat study done 10 years ago and what is today, a culture can change 100 percent in 10 years. The basic culture stays the same, but the window dressing is different, then it is difficult to see the underlying culture, a normal first time person is overwhelmed by the first impressions.

I sometimes start on these big aspirations of explaining a country, or even a place, I think, I will explain Khao San Road, how to get a hotel, how to make your way, and then I think, this will all change, within six months the rules will be different.

However, some cultures will be glossed over, given new clothes and covered by the modern world within the next 20 years. There are cultures that will 95 percent give up their traditions and adopt the TV culture, the Radio, the Music, the outside world will be too tempting and their children will become parts of the global planet, Adios Amigo.

Everyone thinks stereotypes are bad, I think stereotypes are good, the archetypes of a culture is the general explanation of the culture, to generally give an overview of how the culture works. The problem here lies in the comparison, to see a culture, a person has to see. To see how a culture is unique, to see how a culture is similar, a person needs to see social behaviors, and be able to compare. The planet is big, too big, there are too many cultures, the overview is hard to grasp. How can we compare 251 countries, I do not know them.

I see people defining cultures according to recent history, in Peru, there is the culture of Cocaine, or the Coca leaves, this was just a small leaf they chewed on, now it has taken a status of this is our culture, when in reality, it is just a great way to make money that happened in the last 50 years, before that it was a leaf.

There are parts of the culture that goes on and on, like the potato, or how to farm on the side of a mountain, semi-boring, but longer in existence.

The overview snapshots, the explanations of a culture is an interesting challenge, I think of trying to explain things, like,
- What is Thai Style? -

There is a style to the way a Thai person does something, the in-group calls it Thai Style, hard to explain, but when you hang around Thailand, you eventually say,
- Thai Style. -

Not hippie style, but real Thai Style, like the way a girl walks, the way a house was built, the way of sitting, this is Thailand, it is uniquely Thai, it was not a colony, there is no overlays, and no templates set on top of Thailand.

I do strive or reach for the edges of the earth, to find the places where nobody has put a template of culture on top of the ages old culture, this is not easy to find, but fun to find, and record in time, something to remember before we put a cell phone in their hands.

I think I am dreaming now of the video, a video can explain massive amounts of small behaviors by just watching, and words have limits.

Reading Glasses and Fan Glasses

Reading Glasses and Fan Glasses
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia
Friday, October 5, 2007

I purchased one pair of glasses for reading, and another pair to protect my eyes from fans in the hotel room.

Today, I a made my way to my savior, a funky computer machine that somehow analyses my eyes and out pops a Thailand person with great reading glasses. I can read!

These are two sets of glasses, one is prescription type, she even gave me a copy of the correct measurements or whatever they call it, and then….

I purchase them BIG ugly type black glasses, there were sunglasses, and however she replaced the lens with glass, no power as she says. I wanted goggles that look like glasses. The fans of the world in my Hotel rooms dry my eyes, therefore now, I can wear these glasses while watching TV and the fan is trying to toast my eyeballs or at least make into a desert.

The prescription ones on the left were 500 Baht or 15 USA, and the clear ones were 300 Baht or about 9 US. If you are on Khao San Road I go to this cheap shop above the first grocery store, department store, you go to the second floor and wonder around. Somehow, wonder around above grocery stores on the second floors. I suppose you would say it the small one closest to Khao San Road. Alternatively, I suppose you could go to the police station and walk away from Khao San Road.

Aging Khao San Road

Aging Khao San Road
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia
Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Anyway, I think about it, I would say I am in an older Hippie Backpacker Ghetto; Khao San Road is not the new one on the block. Khao San Road is now an institution with the world class backpacker, it is old hat, there are backpacker here as old as 65 years old, however fortunately for the girl watching, the mean age is closer to 23-24, with some jumps to 30.

I am the old man of backpacking, I think my eyes have been altered, the naïve Indiana boy has been removed, and the I know the world has been inserted. It is not a good feeling, I like to be USA, Indian naïve, it was less jaded and I made simple assessments of people. I did not look at their body form, their nose, the way a person walk and say,
- European, probability the Netherlands. -

Last night I was with Craig of Travelvice.com, and to girls would hump up three-four bags per girl. Craig astutely said to the girls,
- Hey, Rain Covers. -
More or less saying, put on your rain covers.
I piped up,
- You have the wrong sandals one, why? -

The one for sure was Israeli, and they are known to always have rain covers on their bags, it is some national backpacker rule, a backpack has a rain cover. The other one spoke French at me, because the other day I forgot and said,
- Ca Va -

Naïve is good, even when I have to try to be naïve. Khao San Road is freak city, full of frumpy young people, not in good shape, to fat for their age, and all have tattoos. It is the place where a person without a tattoo does not fit in, I am drastically conservative here.

The idea of Khao San Road, the Center of the Backpacker Universe is lack of clarity; it is a place where people go when they are not sure where to go.

I am a little worried about Khao San Road, the big boys by development attrition are tearing down all the backpacker ghetto building with wooden walls, and replacing them with four story, AC, TV, and sterile hotels, small restaurant in the bottom and boring. Not a rites of passage hotel, a tourist hotel. There is a larger than belief building going up on the walk as you leave the Wat and go towards the Burger King. It will remove a 50-meter section of the street and place in the modern world, maybe I will be walking by a Mall, and the clutter will be replaced.

This is the problem with good Backpacker Ghettos, the renovate and make modern and the flavor changes, and slowly people have lost the right to say,
- I was there. -

They have to admit, I was just in a nice hotel in the area, I did not suffer, and I presently am in a new hotel, the new Four Sons Chain close to the institution called the Peachy, next to the new 7-11. AC, remote control TV, Hot Water Tank, a key card that demands to be used to turn on the electricity, signs saying 150 to bring a Thai girl in the room, they use the word Guest, but I know they mean Thai girl. Rules and more rules, and they know how what the rules should be.

Housekeepers, that clean, I am in a small Chain, the new one on the area, and the successor to the Sawasdee group. The Four Sons has about 5 or 6 in the area, about the same as the Sawasdee chain, and then the Siam One or Two or Three, etc.

Take done freak and put up a chain hotel, take a freak and give them what they want, a nice room in a place where they can pretend to be somebody, however they have lost the plot, they are not unique. When all the people are freaked, then freaked is normal, and old hat. The social norms of Khao San Road are not being an individual; you are not just the sheep.

I found a WIFI hotel for 390 a night, about 200 Baht more than I like to pay, however, I am a business, and I need to do some business. It is the first hotel in the area that I have found that is properly priced with WIFI. I think there are at least 4 rooms where WIFI will work in the room, I HOPE. WIFI is a terrible choice for internet in room, a good Ethernet wire word ten times better in the concrete world of a hotel, and a coffee shop is good for WIFI. I am semi-happy, it is more the old expat area of Khao San, where there are fewer tourists, and they walk slow as Wade says. A freak walking fast, with a reservation in pocket, and an itinerary is not free, they are on schedule.

Goodbye to the ghetto, say hello to modern word. Taking down paradise and putting up a mall, then saying it is mom and pop. Chain hotels will soon rule Khao San Road, maybe time to find a new Ghetto where I can get dirty, be outside.

I do wander to find new place to wonder. Someone will give me a map, Alex Garland knows this.

The Presence of Asia on a Jet

The Presence of Asia on a Jet
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia
Tuesday, October 9, 2007

This is a photo of the Kenya Airlines toilet on way to Bangkok, Thailand, if you look close you will see footprints on the toilet seat.

Culture cannot be erased, thqt is my comment on cleanliness of India doctors, or African doctors. Here is the proof in the pudding, a person has squatted on top of the toilet, they refused to adapt, and the footprints is the proof. Culture does not disappear just because you are in a modern appendage.

The same flight a Mali man spit four times on the floor of the plane.

- I am what I am, and that is all I am. -
Poppye the Sailor Man.

I wish we could erase our past, erase our culture, the truth it is imprinted on our souls with indelible ink. Do not for a second think an immigrant left home and did not bring with them their culture, they will change the new one. But their Mom will not be left behind, the person will behave as he or she did when they were young, I do not care what the textbook taught them, they will obey their culture first.

This is real, no games, no santized politically correct crapola.

I have moved into a hotel with WIFI, and somehow got the WIFI to work, all is good so far. The Hotel WIFI requiresd a key, password, this always require I travel with my own private tech staff, open systems are 500 percent better, as the staff of Hotels never seem to understand the Key. This one is a keyed one, however, the staff is very helpful and I heard the man calling some techie to try to suss out the problem.

It took about one hour to connect, using every combination, permutation and hope of finding the right combination. I suspect the WIFI may work in about 4-6 room, they are installing one on the third floor. I truly believe an Ethernet wire is better.

As long as there is concrete, there is a problem, WIFI is stopped by concrete. I really hope they jump to second-generation home WIFI routers, where the whole block is covered and not just 25 meters in line of sight. WIFI will go through a wood door, and if the wall is not too far from the router. Bottom line, you rent a specific room close to the WIFI router, and not just land in the hotel, only specific well-positioned room work.

Alternatively, I suppose you can go work in the common areas, but then why not just live in a room and go to the internet café.

I think the best internet is with Ethernet wire to all rooms, then WIFI in the common areas, and an open, non-key required system, with a some techie on staff… hee hee

I think in reality only about 1 in 10 WIFI works adequately to say, I have a dependable connection. The verdict is still being made here in the (Hotel Name Edited) near Khao San Road, but so far, I think the staff will keep it up and running.

WIFI sucks, but I need a connections, I am using flashget to download my 3.5 gig site as backup from some Tar file. We now have a designated server, and it does not provide backup, go figure… Well, we already have a system to synchronize send the site to another company server.

I am looking for my mobile office:

Thai Style, what is Thai Style, it just does not sound right to me to say Thailand Style.?

There are these small things that Thailand people do… nod the head, the sound of their voice, a girl walking on small high heels as her but sways back and forth. This is a small set of statue, at first, or now I guess I ignore these small identifiers saying,
- Hey Andy, you are in Thailand. -

I remember in Mexico, every day the people in Pie de La Cuesta watered the dirt with a water hose, or the smell of burning coconuts husk, this was Mexico to me.

This is Thai Style, a small friendly bunch of monks, walking in row; hmm I remember taking the same photo.

That was from this link, and a few years ago.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/095monks.shtml

Sometimes, I need to open my eyes, and close them again, I need to remember where I am, then life is really good today, so I will keep them wide open, just in case I see a new world. You just learn to love these little people.

This is the air conditioner in the Four Sons Hotel, a chain here in the Khao San Area.

There is nothing worst to me than a good air conditioner blowing right at my face. I took my rug, a.k.a towel, and cover it, used a few clothespins and I am in business again.

The air conditioner covered with a towel, this type of AC is quiet compared to the window one, and a window one can drive you crazy.

Now, hot and cold, cold and hot, the Four Sons welded he Key chain thing together so I could not take it off, therefore when I left the room, I had to shut the electricity off. This is the (Hotel Name Edited) they have not been so secure, if I want to leave the Electricity on to run my computer, charge my cell, or other reason you leave the electricity I can, they are nice and have not asked for the key.

If you take the key tag off, the room becomes warm, then cold, there is no balance, and I really like to just keep the room on one temperature, the room than is always comfortable.

Sometimes a Hotel ask or demand the key, I normally move out. I think the system should be, if you want your room cleaned, give them the key, if not keep it. I do not have people clean my room unless I help them, so anyway I do it, they do not get the key, strangely this stops the theft by cleaning ladies or people, I really never see men clean, I seem them try to clean, but they are not what I want to clean my room, they just are not up to snuff, I think men have personal problems….

HTML and the Old Days

HTML and the Old Days

By Andy of HoboTraveler.com

I have become lazy in the last couple of years; I think I have been in decompression from my first maybe eight years of travel. For the last two or so years, I have been resting on my HTML rewards, I earn money from my site.

HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language, I think, it is the code or language of a simple webpage, if you clicked on View a the top of your page, then on Source if you are on Windows Explorer as a browser you will see all this code. I call my worker in India a coder, because he plays with this code, so do I but I use Frontpage and all the WYSIWYG toys I can find, I have no desire to code. I do fix a lot of code and instruct in SEO code.

I am effective and efficient I have learned, now how amazing easy it is to make a page on a high-speed connection. I have almost never in my life had a real high speed connection in my room or home. I have been on this one WIFI connection in my hotel room, and life is too easy. I am used to making HOPE-they-are-perfect-pages, putting on a thumb drive, publishing in an internet café and hoping I did make a perfect page, most of the time I do not even check, no time, just on the fly pages.

Not the way to make a site free of errors, but I have no choice about 90 percent of the time, unless I suppose I want to get a room in the back or sleep on the floor like workers in Internet cafes, I make the choice, I have a life, I enjoy travel first, HTML toys second.

HTML, PHP, SQL, AJAX and a long list of Acronyms I try to not learn are used on the site, I try not to learn, because it is like this, do it, do not define it. I want my goal on the page accomplished, I am not sure of the path to the goal, and often I do not care. Plus, I do not enjoy talking geek, I enjoy making enough money to buy Chicken Fried Rice in abundance, and occasional ice cream cones. I would live in WIFI room always if I could find them where I wanted to live, not in some five star, pay to say you was there, boring not the country room.

I however am the cook; I taste the PHP, HTML and look at if from old school eyes of experience, ….
----- Hmmm Google.com is not going to like that, or this is good. -

I live, eat, and drink by a bible of rules I collect rules on how to make a page, all this is code and terms, and too many ideas for one small brain, for sure there is some fuzzy logic, hard to conceptualize, only a Betazoid with a mind meld to Google.com can make a good page. My guess is about 1 in 5,000 make more than 5 dollars per day on a page, and really the reason is simple, they do not work. That stops about 99 percent, then with the 1 percent who have the natural I speak HTML, then there is only a small percentage of them who have empathy with google.com, more or less what I normally hear is, this is the way it should be, and not accepting how it really is, they want google.com to accommodate them, and guess what, that does not happen, and I am glad, Google.com gives readers, NOT me, what they want, I have to give readers what they want, and then google.com is happy.

In the end, the ultimate secret is to type many words into a page, make it HTML simple, and follow some repetitive rules. I am baffled but the I hate my father groups, 99.9 percent of the planet just refuse to follow any rules and fail. NOTE- Flash dooms a site to failure.

Well, I am sitting around in this AC room, and reading all sorts of funky things, for example,
- Absolute links or Relative Links, what is better? -

I read a load of rules, then I suss out who is lying, then make my own decision and I do good, but google.com changes the rules, so they want to make it fun. I collect rules, the perform rules, and hope to convince boy genius in India to obey, and not make too clever pages in dynamic databases, that kills a bot dead.

I really hope nobody reads this page, but it is my collection of pivotal or essential rules page of HoboTraveler.com and all his sisters sites. A set of policies on how to make pages, maybe fun for the think-too-much HTML crowd. I am nostalgic today, I have been playing a lot with code, and I forgot I was good at it, code, not pretty pages, there is a big difference, and I am the boss of SEO, not the boss of Graphics.
Policy to Make Web Sites

The real truth is this, a simple made HTML pags is old days and the best for Google.com to read, all the toys, just is confusion for the bot or robot that reads my pages. OR does not read my pages, or reads and will not tell anyone.

My Family and Friends back home in Indiana do not want to hear this, but the truth is, today I must accept, my home is in Bangkok, Thailand. I have a one bedroom, home, no kitchen, AC, cold water shower, a desk and no chair to use with the desk. I have a nice mirror on the wall, and one in the shower. Tomorrow my home may be somewhere else, and I have my home on my back, today I live here.

I have home furnishing; however, my home is in need of home repairs. I fixed my reading light today, it needed a new socket, I sprayed my room for them small insects that infest the whole world, and I consider this a luxury, 1.25 to make sure my room is free of insects.

Home repairs are numerous, the storage compartments or lockers, a.k.a. backpacks were destroyed in a motorcycle rent; I purchased two new ones complete with cart wheels.

I need to repair the phone in the room, the charger cable is showing copper, and the repairs are numerous. Many moons ago, and a few suns, I was in Quito, Ecuador, I thought of this as a stocking up city, a place where I could get supplies. Oh yes, I purchased a new battery for my alarm clock today.

Bangkok is a good place for Travel Home Repairs, easy to travel, taxis are metered and cheap, and the sell all of China here, I can buy everything I need to live on the road.

In the past it was a stocking up city, now I call it Base Camp

I Am an Annoyed Little Webmaster

I Am an Annoyed Little Webmaster
Where have I been for the last two or three year, out in the Jungle of Africa, I need to get to work. I am afraid, the money I need to travel the planet is in jeopardy, and nobody to blame but the big me. Used to be I had to guess, and use instincts to make a webpage, I have discovered all the rules of making a webpage are outlined on the net, and I have not read any of the rules for 2-3 years. Bad boy, very bad boy, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I make my living by typing words in a page, and hoping by what they call organic search, I am found by someone when searching in Google.com Ask.com, Msn, Yahoo.com etc and then someone is tempted to click on an advertisement, whereby I make small change, but enough to allow me to travel the planet. All is temptation play, no forcing the play in my ballpark.

There are rules to this trade, and I must obey, they constantly change the rules, and a person needs to adapt, and hope the page they designed 7 years ago still is in the game, and if not, change the site, bottom line, I must adapt, and maintain.

I found two absolutely lovely links on how to make pages in the last two days, that basically outlines the rules of the game. In the past, there was an extreme lack of clarity, and lucky for me, I designed the good site and won the first game.

Now I am in game two, second level internet, the big boys, from the next town are coming, the city kids, the farm boys, need to kick some tail and time to wake up and bail hay. I am early riser, about 4 to 5 AM in the morning, my Fathers Son and proud to be so, hard to beat me at getting them worms. I must however remember to the goal is to get worms.

The two pages are, and go figure, one was made by google.com.

Google.com Webmaster Guidelines
They are making it easy, and I forgot to go read to the worm.

Next page, more nebulous, but is very clear.
How to design a web page

Why do they not just put this food on the table for me, and spoon feed me, I know that content is not only the king, I must read, reading is the secret to making pages, look at one very specific aspect of my page, then go look for explanations to design. Find a collaboration, figure out who is clueless, avoid the forums and camaraderie, work not talk, and feel who is lying, and then make the best decision, and if you have good instincts, you win, but only about 1 in 500 because the 499 refuse to do this, read, they want to post, chat, or try to get famous, they will not read and work, and they just cannot implement.

I used to read about 20 newsletters per day on how to do this, and I un-subscribed because they filled up my box in Africa and made it impossible to read my essential family and friends emails. I am back in the game, I can feel the juice, I have the rush, I am a player again, I am going to the show.

IF you want to keep this boy in Africa, he must have cash, to rant, rave, and tell the world the truth. If you have a webpage of any type, do me a favor, link to this page link below here and I will be a happy boy. Sadly, nobody pays me to rant and rave, and thank God, I would then have to avoid them, I would not be able to tell the stark truth, every small favor in life has a string, and the paid travel writers who work for magazine, papers, and such, are tied up with a thousand strings, and cannot move without lying to keep their kidnappers happy. I am free, and will remain free, or I will go home, play in the corn of Indiana, and call it No Joy, back of Maverick, get above the ceiling.. Topgun…

Cash is required for Travel
I need about 15 US Dollars per day minimum to travel the planet, and really closer to 25, but can live for five to three in some countries. It is a balancing act, some place I pay a lot, like in Africa or Europe, then others like India and Thailand I can live on five dollars per day.

I was reminiscing about some over-two year travelers I have met, there is one common discussion, we need money. We need to somehow continue to feed our travel addictions. They are not liberal save the planet, hug a tree dreamers, they know,
- Cash is King, without money, I cannot travel. -

They are not all on the up and up, the majority is cheap, weasels who will twist a situation to rook a better deal, travelers are extremely selfish group, and all is done for self.

I have had a lull in my money, it forced me to remember my five dollars per day travel I did for years.

Sacrifice is what true travelers will say, they say,
- For five dollars per day, I will live in Guatemala. -

The sacrifice all creature comforts, to buy just one more day of not going home, they are addicts, including myself.

Why I do not use Travel Guides

Why I do not use Travel Guides
I am not sure, cars are the most dangerous, and for sure, food poisoning is a travel danger, however these two are hard to avoid. Nevertheless, to pay a guide to lead me stupidly into danger is not what I do. A few tourists died in Thailand in cave, today or yesterday with a flash flood. The rain is dropping suddenly like buckets in Thailand, nobody should be going into caves, but I suppose they were told, as is the world policy on danger.

I read the headlines; I have a nifty toy that sent this page to me. World News

The headlines read something like.. Tourist Killed in Cave

I was bombarded today with tourist in Thailand being killed in Caves in the south of Thailand. There were a couple of Thai people, as I understand, they were probably the I-Speak-50-Words-Of-English, and therefore I am a qualified guide Thais. This is the world standard for guides, not a person who knows, it is a person who speaks English. When I am on a tour I find the nerd who read everything before, and knows more than the guide to talk with, because lets us face reality, talking English is does not qualify you to go into caves or be a guide.

This is the blind leading the blind and typical stuff for guides.

This has nothing to do with Thailand, it is worldwide, there are some real dangerous tourist activities and not just dumping a bus full of people in a market to be robbed of cameras. The dangerous ones are also full of tourist who cannot evaluate danger; therefore, I guess Darwin is still in business.

Hot water to wash dishes, hot water to bath, hot water to clean clothes. This in my opinion kills them little things I do not understand.

40-70 percent of the world takes cold showers, washes dishes in cold water, and washes clothes in cold water.

Letting Go of Control

Letting Go of Control
I am 100 percent sure I control nothing, and when I think I am in control, I know I am delusional. When I finally admitted I was powerless over my life, and life had become unmanageable. I then was in good shape to know, darn,
- Life is Good! -
When I am not in a fight to control it.

----------------------------------

There are our places of power, there is our ground, let the enemy come into our playground; we want them on our playing field. We want the home court advantage.

I was just having a Skype.com conversation with an overwhelming intelligent person from the USA. He has a war chest of internet links, toys, and ideas on how to travel when outside the USA. This is an amazing collection of small hints, ideas and advice on how to go outside his world and still live in his world.

More or less, he knows how to find his world, in other worlds fast.

I was laughing as we had a conversation about WIFI hotels. I more or less despise owners of WIFI Hotels, as they are empathy impaired, somewhat sterile with left one missing.

However, I am in one of the first WIFI hotels in my life that actually works, 90 percent of the Hotels features are in my acceptable range, and I have some workarounds that get the last 10 percent up to snuff, as I carry things like lights, extension cords, ways to keep the sheet on the bed, clotheslines to hang clothes where there is no hangers, etc. my war chest of ways to make a room work.

I am in GREAT shape, both home and on this unusual WIFI internet in a Hotel that works. ! This connection is a kicker, and I am at warp speed, no need to Beam me up Scotty this planet is nice, I think I will linger a while.

I am in a POWER position.

What is funny is the people in the USA leave a very high power position, the go into the world and return to a power position. I am normally in a very powerless position searching for a powerful place.

I can actually, while I am here, find two to three prospective hotels in the next city that would fit my need about 50-70 percent, hard to get up to 90. Note, if I paid 40 dollars per night in Thailand I could get all my benefits I want, but then for what reason at 40. For this price, I would go travel in Europe, and have more to see of interest, or in the USA, and have an even better package of Benefits. There is no doubt the cheap motel for 30 dollars in the USA is better on a basic room level than a 30 dollar hotel in Thailand, but when you leave the room in Thailand that is where the world changes.

I wish people were in Mali in a 12 dollar hotels, with a wildly slow internet café for about a month, and then try to tell me it is easy to find a fast connection in the next city.

To find a good internet WIFI connection that is at a good value in Thailand is a lottery of Thai headaches unless I just buy a way above the headaches and pay USA prices to live in Thailand.

Nevertheless, the bottom line is this, if you want high-speed connections then you better find them before you leave your high-speed connection. Then you will be happy to learn about 80 percent of the Hotels mis-represent their connections, so only one in five really works. Or you are living in a place, only a hermit would love.

Power to Power, this is the move you want to make, and finally you will have to admit you are powerless. I suspect that some people spend five weeks preparing to go on a two-week vacation and I am being kind not saying one year.

IF you have many personal problems, many personal creature needs, if you want to be in control, stay home, life will be better, you will not have to go home to have a vacation.

The world is a big mystical out of control situation and works just fine, but it has very bad WIFI at less than 15 per day for the hotel, or the normal price of an average hotel on the planet, and does real well when you get above 50, and there is no reason to leave a good country for a better value country and why travel for good value.

If I spent 50 dollars per day, I think I would spend about a year traveling around the USA. If I spent 100 dollars per day, I would go tour Europe, but I am young, and Europe is boring.

However, as my friend German Escobar in the Platypus Bogotá Hostel in Colombia says,
- Andy, you can travel Europe when you are old, it is easy. -

Europe is easy on 100 dollars per day; at 25, it is extremely annoying.

Plan your power plays, from a position of power, plan your search for your next position of power, and then plan on everything going wrong, SNAFU.

The USA and Europe are about control, not my cup of tea, I gave that idea up.

This is my new trolley tramp roller coaster Backpacks. I am going for the wheels, not yet up to what I want, but I am tired of carrying 80 pounds or 40 kilos, I think I am getting nerve damage from the straps. The wheel need to be wider apart and bigger for mud puddles.

Both bags cost 1400 Baht or about hmm 3 x 14 = 42 US dollars. Not bad for two bags, and will last about as long when I reinforce them and add some fixes. I was going to make backpack with three rows of stitching and not the standard row of one on my design.

This is the smaller carry on size, not really, but I think I can try, the wheels will help pretend to be carry on size. Carry on is an ok idea, but getting it under the seat, in the rack above, this is the problem. This is 24 inches high, about 2 above what they say they will take, and it is too fat. This is 12, and I think 8 inches is desired and 10 are acceptable and never trust airlines….

Most carry on bag I see are about 14-16 inches fat, and I know will not fit in that steel cage they show, but rarely use. 60 percent of the passengers would have too big of bags, impossible to use, and the pilot for sure has too many bags.

This has four to five pockets on the outside. There is zero way to lock these pockets, as is standard on the too nuts to sell backpacks. Backpacks are made 90 percent for trekking and used 90 percent on buses and planes. This one has admitted it, it has wheels, but this is a knock off, I purchased something called check-point brand, and I wanted red and blue so they bring out Lowe Alpine that was the same bag, just different color, this is NOT a Lowe Alpine bag, probably made by little Asian people in Vietnam, I hope Thailand.

Tall or height is not a big problem, too fat is, this backpack will need to go under bus seats, above train seats, and in baggage compartments of cheap and expensive airlines. It cannot not be plump, the front pockets had to go, and I left one pocket on the right so I could wear this on the front of my body and pack a guidebook. This one is fat.

They look naked, but this is good, I lost too much color, hard to recognize my bag from a distance with black. Notice the ONE outside pouch for a guidebook.

NOW! I have only one zipper to lock, and I am safe, secure and I can lock this to my bed, keep girls out of my bag when they stop over to say hello. The house cleaner cannot do some temptation theft, as all is snug as a bug in rug inside the bag, with no pockets in free open range.

This is called a padlock slider, THE NEW BAG HAS THIS. I am always searching for the ideal one, I have only seen one, the best one on the planet so far. This photo is far from ideal, the tab pulls will break off, and this is just to stop the people without a knife. I will replace the small lock with a round steel loop so I can use a bigger lock or put two locks on this and use a bigger lock.

Ideal Padlock Slider or Best I have seen

Every bag is ok, they just need modified, and really a big army duffle bag would work good, if I was only using one bag, and not two, no computer and nothing breakable.

I wished Thailand wore shoes, and not sandals, hard to get repari made in non-shoe countries.

The verdict is in, Americans do not know Geography, and by the way, either does any of the people from other countries. We are all about the same, we all use some form of tunnel vision that sees only what interest us, and we ignore the rest of the world Geography.

Our life experiences is what teaches geography, yes some countries study geography of the planet more than others, and a person that reads National Geographic Magazine has education that is better.

Geography curiosity, or curiosity of Geography. Hmmm, that is about worthless, the pivotal things is to have a curiosity about people, then you are curious about Geography. I guess a people watcher, a person that can go to a big mall; sit on the bench, just muse about people endlessly would be a good candidate to be good at Geography. Why spend days studying maps unless you want to know about the people.

I am in a constant state of amusement as I coordinate with my techie the Boy Genius Techie in India to put code on our HoboHideOut.com Hotel site. Here is person that somewhat dwells on the USA culture, however somehow just does put much value in a State of the USA.

If you click on this link.
USA Map

Ooops where is Indiana, I mean, how can I go look at a map of Indiana or just a blank page waiting for Indiana Maps to appear, or some automated Google Earth Maps. Somehow the state of Indiana is not there, but we have put most of the smallest villages possible, but no Indiana.

The tunnel was made, the dictate passed down be the big ME.
- WE are making a Hotel site of… every CITY in the World.! -

I did, I made the tunnel, I put my 10 dollars on the table and said, this site will have every Hotel in the planet, and every city in the planet, and I demanded that we create a way to collect a hotel in the smallest place imaginable. And not only this, I am demanding a way to say, if a person in a house wants to rent a room to Swedish Girls, they should be able to place this on the site, and compete neck and neck with the Five Star Resort.

I have made the tunnel, Boy Genius is looking through the tunnel, and his vision is Tunnel, it is Tunnel Vision as they say. He is thinking CITY, this is the Tunnel I made.

I suppose we had to do it, we had to go to the smallest before we could back up and say, lets look out the window at the State of Indiana as we pass onto the smallest little city of Superboy, the Smallville USA, the Village in Laos, up in the mountains, nobody stops but some old Military Truck full of Rice Farmers.

Every city deserves favor… I truly believe the small cities of a county are the lifeblood of a country. The are the identifiers of people. I do not believe if I go to Germany and stay in Frankfurt, I am seeing German culture, yes a form. If I want to find out who Germany is, I must go down to the smallest of Gods people and say,
- Hello, I am Andy, what is your name? -

Where is the smallest of Gods people, in Smallville USA, they are in Germany in the village of… DARN, I cannot remember how to spell the village in Germany I visited. That place where the Grocery Store closes at 6:00 pm and all is quiet, just a few corner bars. This is the problem with HoboHideOut.com, today, not tomorrow, or the future, but today we are in a tunnel of design, If I know the exact name, the state, the county a person can find their city, this is not how a person travels though and not the only path, but a good path if you know 100 percent where you are going, not likely…

I found it, the village of Seitingen a place where I found Germany, it is on the site of HoboHideOut.com… hehehe, but for sure, only the makers of the site know how to travel the tunnels and paths to this village. If you go to this German Village, I hope to help you find a room, and say Hello to Sabine, my German friend I met in Ecuador, in a nowhere place, on a beach, Smallville, USA, nobody cares, but yes, someone cares, I do.

My Germany, the German people I want to know, the people I know live here.

Other Life’s of Andy

I am having fun, making my dream of finding a room in a small village in Germany Hotel site. Because I want to go to the small places, and say,
- Hello, I am Andy, what is your name? -

I need a way to find a room to sleep.

Ok, the bottom line though Geography is the core or HoboHideOut.com, we must show easy paths to find the smallest of the smallest and allow a person who knows nothing about Geography and could care less, how to find the great Uncle living in Ireland, and find a room… EASY, if it was easy, everyone would make these Mega sites, instead they just give me the Five Stars off the top, and forge the cream, the small cities where a boy like me was born.

Google.com is winning because everyone is allowed to play, and Yahoo.com is losing because the said, no, only if you pay, only if you give us money, only if this, too many rules, the basic fundamental profit model that works on the internet is…
- A site that helps all helps the site to thrive. -
This has been Yahoo.com problem, the reason why Google.com gets about 80 percent of search traffic, Google.com allows all to enter, and does not just say no, Yahoo.com started to want 300 dollars more or less per entry, and they wrote their doom check.

I suppose you get the minds of the smallest, the rest must follow.

Rock-In The USA
R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A

A song by John Cougar around Bloomington, Indiana where I went University and drank my way to fame, and made mocking jokes to John Mellencamp ex-wife who managed our apartment complex, think hey winch, you screwed up, that divorce was too early; the man has gone Rockin in the USA, good job hometown boy, Johnny.

LYRICS

They come from the cities
And they come from the smaller towns
Beat up cars with guitars and drummers
Goin crack boom bam

R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Yeah, Yeah!

I am in Bangkok, Thailand, and all I can say, I feel like I am Rockin in the USA. I am on this WIFI connection in the (HOTEL NAME EDITED) for 390 Baht per night, Free WIFI and it screams… Rockin in the USA.

I am connected, I feel the rush. A big Skype.com speed fast, it is really as I feel the world, in my world, as I think and feel…
Rockin in the USA!
(This is my world, in my brain, a neighborhood you should not enter alone... my brain.)

I have never been at Warp Speed Connection I have realized, never in my life have I done this, this is a first, I have never continually surfed at warp speed. What a connectivity additions.

The internet almost stays up with the speed of my brain, or at least follows along, a strange feeling to be in Bangkok, Thailand and feeling the speed of the USA…. Rockin in the USA.

Slippery when wet signs need installed for the whole city of Bangkok.

This is NOT just a Thailand problem, it is a world problem. The world seems to continually make these very pretty and highly dangerous walking surfaces. This is a rather normal sidewalk in the Khao San are of Bangkok. I have on sandals, as does I suppose 90 percent of the folks in the area, and it is raining. I think, wow, this is slippery, I am young at spirit, my brain works fast, I anticipate, nonetheless how many people slip and crack their head on the planet in the name of making pretty sidewalks that do not function.

I just have a problem, laying down a sidewalk that is incredibly slippery seems off the wall negligent, however I see it so often, I have learned to ignore.

This is a lobby point, my personal lobby with the United Nations to set up some global safety standards. If they have, then someone post in the comments below. So much talk in the world, and nobody connect the brain, is the brains asleep?

All they have to do, it do a PR release, talk too much as is normal, point at some country and soon the world is safer. The wheelchair thing is an impossible hope, not really and issue, they must use the road until about 50 years in the future, but the world could stop making slippery sidewalk in the future.

Flying Blind with Shame and Pride

Flying Blind with Shame and Pride
I live in the desert, I sens flash messages back to the world, and tell them of my progresses or failures. The world receives them, and I receive only one percent feedback of the quality of the missives. I am liked or carried by my writing, My unique perception of the world explained in a Jack Kerouac, absent-minded professor, lovable enough because everyone knows I am telling the truth. It would not be impossible to fake those truthful explanations in a posturing way. I really do get lost on the way to the store… then can explain how to go back to the store with pure clarity.

I have not looked at my own web site in seven years. I do not think I have ever seen my own web pages. When I am in the USA, at my parents home, where I can do this unlimited surfing, I am at the speed of slow dialup, and Verizon stops everything tehie from happening… just a pain in butt company for webpage publishing.

I have now looked at my own internet pages after being in the desert of the outside world for seven years.

Wow, what a bunch of crap, this thing is a disaster zone!

Then, I think… I have designed the architecture, the backend, the structure of this page, that works great, even with the worst of the worst layout, extra code, just pure chaos on the outside and sometimes on the inside. The SEO or Search Engine Optimization is so good, that I got about 7000 unique visitors on the page yesterdya, and used to get from10 to 15,000 unique with the same ugly look, but perfect SEO Architecture. Google.com is changing their rules so I need to work to play by their rules, I am glad they change the rules, they make their users happy, not me.

It is amazing I make one penny, and I am making a hundred.

Now, that I am looking at my naked site, I am going to clean it while I am on this fast connection for the first time in seven years. I have been making pages 99 percent blind, I just publish them and hope they are ok, because my in the desert, in the too slow, flash send to the world published pages from some of the worst internet cafes on the planet. I did have the ability to check what I sent. I have checked now… wow…

Google.com likes my site, but they have a limit of overlooking some code problems and such, they are now saying, by way of slower traffic,
- Andy, time to fix them there pages, and enter the new world of high speed MTV, get a life, talk on two cell phone web pages. -

It is a challenge, not as big as you think, really just a lot of work, but I am having fun playing the Google.com algorithm search engine change the rules on the fly game.

A web site is not about today, I must design a site that is appreciated by Google.com or the next big boy on the block 3-5 years from now.

This is the art, to predict the what the future of the interne is, I am betting my instincts, opinions and all my work that I am right, I have been winning tremendously.

Now, the fun part, I can make this new toy, HoboHideOut.com and not repeat the many errors of HoboTraveler.com. It is amazing to myself, how much traffic I have, carried solely on a great architectural web design, this is my pride.

Nevertheless, the truth is, the King has had no clothes for years, and nobody explained clearly this to him… Your site is a mess!. Now, I have a mirror, and I can see, wow, this site is damaged goods. However, a good backend, code, behind the ugly face, sort of the soul is good, but the face is ugly. I am lucky to have a good soul.

Note, I have never been able to put the whole site in my Microsoft Front Page program because the RAM was too low in my prior or old computers. I am actually on the same page, life is too easy in these modern times with a better computer, designatd server, etc.

Buying is the Travel Sin

Buying is the Travel Sin
I am on this pivotal idea kick, I keep trying to find the pivotal concept that reveals all, and the one way of looking at an issue, that resolves the question. Africa taught me that jealousy is a basic evil desire of humans, as I saw at the simpler cultural levels, jealousy became a dangerous problem. In the more convoluted brains of the developed cultures, motivations are not clear, the reasons for behaviors are hidden behind many smoking guns.

----------------------------------

It is painful for me in my Betazoid body to watch people buy, well, they buy everything, it is not important; they buy anything providing there is money in their pocket. I can feel their frustrations, there is never enough cycle, they must continue to buy, and they will get up tomorrow and go buy again, the whole in their chest is never closed, the wind just tickles the edges.

Jealousy is when I want what another person has, or I do not want you to have it, I do not want you to have something I do not also have.

This is the complicated way of saying it:
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.

What is up with this Male Servant clause…? Hehehe
Ok, back to the issue.

I am suppose to be happy when you do well, if you go out and make lot of money, and I have none. I should be happy for you. I truly am proud that Bill Gates comes from the USA, he is rich and he deserves every penny.

I am happy that Norway is first on the HDI - Human Development Index, and want to go there to see why the USA is 10 or somewhere down the line. I would like to go and learn how I can do better.

I truly believe the problem with Israel is, well, these boys and girls are endowed with too many brains, they make everyone nervous. If I am stupid, better to keep the smart people away from me… On the other hand, if I am not jealous better to make them my friend. I personally go searching for smart people, seem like the bright thing to do, find a smart person and follow them, and then I can be lazy brained.

Well, this is what I learned, it is not the sin just to want something, and it becomes the sin when you go buy it. To want, to need, to desire, to dream, to hope, to sit around dwelling on what I can buy… To believe that something I do not have will make me happy, this does not work.

I wish I could buy something to make me happy, what a waste of money for me, I am already happy. But, I tell myself I am happy more than I tell myself I am not, there is a bigger pile of thoughts on the one side than the other side.

I do have these very small enjoyments. I go buy Iced Coffee and the trade of is this, I could go buy an Iced Coffee or a new Computer and today I think I would rather buy the Iced Coffee.

I keep learning as I have less and less, my backpack is limited, I cannot buy much, there is no place to keep it, and darned if I am going to send things home to a place I do not live. I live here, today. I will die someday and a big pile of junk will be left for a garage sale, why?

I buy something, then the something I buy, owns me.

I buy something, and then I worry about someone stealing it, borrowing it, or me losing it. Too much work I cannot be bothered.

I do want money, I want enough money that when someone steals something I need like my underwear, I just go and buy some more, I do not live in want. I want to replace everything in my backpack painlessly.

Nevertheless, to want is not the sin, to buy is the acting out of covet, the desire, the wanting.

I do very little in the day, I do not want, I do not desire, I do not need, I for sure do not go shopping. I have about 90 percent less to do than the other travelers or tourist around me. I also am not in need of some body rush; I do not need to go see something of beauty to have a good day. I am a boring person. I do not spend 90 percent of my day shopping.

I am probably addicted to ideas, I like to ponder, and I have this never-ending series of thoughts in my brain. I like to think, I love the game of problem solving. All this came to past as a friend told me I was trying to make traffic to my site to make money… I thought, no, I am trying first to have enough money, and not decreasing, that is scary when I start to slowly go lower, as there is a bottom. I love the game of thinking, of having complicated ideas.

However, I have trouble getting motivated for money, what would I do with money, buy another backpack. I have the best backpack I can play with today; it is the best I found to play with here in Bangkok. What am I going to do, buy two iced coffees?

Yes, there is always some small tweaks, and if I had unlimited money, I suppose I would not wear that t-shirt two days in a row. I think every person on the planet should move into a one-room home, it would stop them from buying….

Gong, you lose, I see people buy small backpacks, and then what do they do, the carry two big plastic bags of junk, and the small backpack. I carry a big backpack, but I accept, I need this amount of things to be happy, but then again, I do not own anything.

I have nothing to protect, everyone has more than I do, but I am fabulously wealthy, I smile, and I have time, I have time to ponder while everyone else tells me, I am too busy. I think when a person says they are too busy, they have lost the game. Somebody made them work for the man, they are in jail, totally out of control, and there lives have been purchased.

I tend to think, they bought so much, and they spend all their time maintaining or preserving their lifestyle and gave up their life. The for sure do not have time to talk….

Strange as it seems, I can call a person on Skype.com, a person I have not talked to in six months and they say,
- I am too busy to talk. -

Alternatively, do they mean, Andy you mean nothing to me, so I do not want to talk to you. I see both ideas as the same, oh well; I have time to talk if they ever stop buying and sinning. They are still my friend, they are just stray sheep.

A rich person does not want, a rich person has time, however, forget to smell the roses, I go buy iced coffee and take Hollywood showers. I do what I like, you do what you like and we will meet by chance, and life is good.

Buying a New Camera

Buying a New Camera
The screen of my 12X Sony Camera broke when the motorcycle taxi hit a pig in Togo and we crashed. The pig was ok, the camera, me, and my backpack have scars. I have been looking through the old fashion viewfinder now for months. And now, my camera has a ghost inside it, and it starts on its own. This would be not so bad, if the ghost would leave some battery power for me after it is done.

----------------------------------
Bangkok, Thailand Southeast Asia

Andy of HoboTraveler.com --- Free Hotel Webpages
----------------------------------

I am clueless about the Ghost, maybe my one Thai friend turned on some automatic type mechanism in my camera when she was playing with it. Whatever, .... the camera starts on its own.

I sit my 12X Sony Camera down, it will make that small noise and power up, next time I try to use the camera the batteries are dead. The only way to use now is to remove the batteries and insert them when I want to take a photo.

How fast of draw am I?
Am I a good cowboy?
Can I draw and shoot my camera faster than you?
Who will win in a shootout at the OK Corral?

First priority in purchasing a camera is probably… how fast does it power-up or become ready to take a photo. I sat an Olympus camera down and have never touched it again, It was dead, the person I wanted to photograph was gone, and I was always holding the camera saying to myself.
- Faster, faster, faster, you stupid camera, turn on. -

I have not read and clear methods of knowing speed, the only way I know to test is to take both cameras and hold side by side and try them.

I know the Sony is relatively fast, so hard for me to want to buy a different horse.

Second consideration is the Optical, NOT Digital zoom. I have found the 10X plus range is great, and now they are doing the up to 18X and maybe more. I was ready, primed, I was going pro, and I wanted to buy the Sony SLR Single Lens Reflex camera, which means little to me…

18X or 15X will serve as a SLR in 98 percent of photos.

With the SLR camera, I can remove a small lens and load on a larger and larger lens until I could view ants at 100 meters away or at least a surfer. This is the big camera hanging around people neck, saying,
- Rob me, or I be Photographer. -

I was laughing yesterday on Khao San Road as I saw about 10 of these cameras in a row. There is some serious penis envy enforced in the camera shops. I truly believe about 1 in 50 people need to purchased these large lens cameras. I think it takes about 10,000 photos before a person can become a good critic of photo taking methods.

Oh well, someone has to buy to create competition so I can buy cheaper if I can ever find a good reason.

Size is the problem; a person does not take the best photos when they cannot carry the camera in their hands. I go to dodgy, well maybe dangerous places; for sure, they would steal a camera if I had it hanging around my neck. I think the only place you really need the expensive long lens camera is where they will rob you or beat you if you use the camera. My goal is to get far enough away from the people to steal a photo without them catching me.

I want small, the Sony 12X was small, the big lens ones, the pro ones require I buy a backpack before I buy the camera, there is no way to buy a camera without buying a special backpack to carry the I-wanna-be-photographer crap. I do not want to be a photographer, I just want great photos, and I do not want to know what f-stop is.

Batteries and battery management, this is the art of taking many photos. To be pro, I would need to have about 5-10 sets of battery replacements and I need to use a battery tester to make sure they are really charges. A battery charger can say the batteries are pregnant and they are not, nothing worst than putting non-charge batteries in a camera fast to capture the great photo fast and the batteries do not work.

Sony went to the AA battery system on the 12X, now they seem to have gone back to the proprietary battery model… I am annoyed; I think they should go to a four or maybe eight battery system. I want the camera to have enough power to push out a great photo. I am positive weak batteries make for bad photos. I need to remove the half-used batteries and put in new ones to be pro, who wants to be pro, I just want to snap photos quick, and pretend I am pro.

SLR or Sony 15X, or now the new contender a 18X Finepix I found for about 100-200 dollars less.

Does 3X zoom make a big difference; I suppose I should bet on a known horse and buy the Sony.

The SLR Sony is out of the running, the stupid thing, I pay 800-1000 dollars for a camera and have fewer features… It will not take a MPG movie, so what is the point. I am not going to carry three cameras. I think two is good… I want to take videos.

I am going to carry the Sony 15 X and a small cell phone with a 3 million-pixel photo capacity. I can sneak photos with the cell camera better than I can with a camera that says, look at me, I am taking your photo. There is nothing on the planet more common than a person looking at cell phone, it is the thingy that women are using to replace the thingy of men.

I have not purchased a camera yet, I am still in the make up my mind phase as my other 12X install batteries to use camera is annoying me.

This is the proven horse, I know the Sony is reliable.

15 X lens, and uses a special lithium battery, I need to buy 2-3 or 10 of them to be happy, no more AA off the shelf, can buy in an emergency, I will be nailed to the wall with the Sony Battery.

18 X lens, three more, and uses 4 AA batteries as is my understanding and cost about 4000 Baht less here in Bangkok.

Speed, I have a need for a speed, I want to be the fast draw, and I really do think that taking photos fast is required to capture the best. Note, the pros turn on this machine gun feature, with some 24 Meg picture or huge. Then take too many, and then cut the photos out of the photos with a graphic program. So much for skill, just turn on the machine gun and take tons, then cut the good photo out of the photo with a graphics program. I learned this in Israel from some starving freelance photographers. It is very easy to find someone who does not make any money but calls himself or herself a professional photographer.

Experts, a dime a dozen… I have been walking around looking at people with camera trying to find an expert, I have not seen any for a long time. There is something in their eyes, and they have a perspective when the take a photo, plus they also wears the required hunting vest gear. I refuse, but it does have merit

I have the Baht, I have the place, I can go to Panthip this huge Computer Mall that will sell all software for only 5 dollars, and has four floors of toys.

Finepix or Sony, or is it Fuji or Sony, I tire of trying to choose a camera. I do not really want to purchase three Sony Batteries; I really need five, and would be very happy with ten. This would cost more than the camera. I go to places with no electricity, somebody must have the same empathy as me, and I mean someone out there must feel the same pain.

Which come first, the bag for camera, battery management for camera or the camera, oops, then the computer to download. These four variable works together, the are all hooked at the hip. I do not make a decision without talking to the other group. NOTE: Do not put photos on DVD or CD Roms! Thumb Drive maybe, computer and FTP is the only safe way.

Therefore, batteries, what do you think can you stay up with this new Sony 15 X or should I buy the Finepix so I can go to the local store and buy AA batteries in an emergency.

Do I need to battery charger for the Sony Lithium Batteries?

I really need girl assistant, long legs, smart as a whip, she can carry the bag, the camera, the batteries, and she can take the photos as instructed…. I will watch her, as she take photos… must have a Western Passport and feel somehow exotic, and not be from the USA, maybe born in a poor country and immigrated. I am not sure I can handle USA girl assistants and Europeans are increasingly annoying me.

Why does everyone stop me from thinking and saying what I think, there is no freedom of thought. They want to control my thoughts, and shoot; I cannot control what I think about.

All this work because I sold some photos, and I make money from putting photos on the internet. But, I was told in Israel, but a pro, that I was not a pro. I have to believe him, he said he was pro, sleeping in his dorm bed, while I got a single room.

The nightmare of a big site, lots of traffic, hosting companies do not host big sites, they plan on failure of sites, not on what they sell, unlimited traffic, unlimited this, unlimited that, blah blah blah… Please I read the ad and said, ok I pay.

I am in great fear of having explosive traffic, and my site will crash. The hosting techs just are not trained to deal with huge traffic.

I have the best problem in the world, like having the IRS knocking on my door and wanting more money because I make too much money. Too much traffic is not a problem it is an obstacle, and a great way to have a Hosting Tech hear a Big Ape Roar.

Nevertheless, in the end, I do not like the embarrassment of trying to explain all the reasons when the site is down. The explanations do not suffice, when some old guy in Florida wants to get his daily dose of world travel, I want to say, read on.

Debit Credit ATM Card Protection

Debit Credit ATM Card Protection

I used the red one now for about a year, it does not protect the face and really is only good for one card. I found this silver steel box holder here in Bangkok, Thailand. I now feel safe, if the magnetic strip, the numbers, the signature, or the card breaks, I have no money. I do not use traveler’s checks, I carry about 200-300 US dollars cash, but I exclusively take money only from ATM machines now for 10 years. Sometimes I purchase online airline tickets with the card, I use for nothing else.

Breaking a card, losing a card, travel is rough on debit cards, I do not use credit cards. Not the same as when you can just go to the bank and are issued a new one. DHL can you believe it charges more for a Card…

The bottom line, you must protect your money first, money solves all travel problems. Traveler’s checks do not work; cash always works and ATM about 99 percent of the time… I presently know of only one country where I could not use and ATM, that was Iraq, and I suspect you can now.

Buy one these debit card boxes, take this photo to an office supply place, not a traveler supply, they do not give you want you need, they give you what you want, you need this. Took me forever to purchase one in the outside world.

I use words to paint the history, today and the future of my life. What I say today about the future of the world, my country, my friends, and the big me will be the future.

I am positive words can hurt people, and if they can hurt people, good word can save people.

I am a very lucky man. When I think about the good words that saved my life as made me very angry, some people reach in my soul and rearange the shelves with words, making me a better person. I am grateful to the people in my life who use words to make me one person, not a confused mess of many, today I am just me.

The Rebel or Revel Traveler

The Rebel or Revel Traveler
I listen generally by accident to two main categories of travelers; the one is being rebellious and tells me everything wrong about their topic of the day. Then, there is the person who is rarer, however is reveling about how great something is, although possible they are reveling about a crazy tattoo they just got.

People love a Rebel; I enjoy and admire a person who fights the good fight against real Dragons. I am annoyed when any person has more than about three major causes. I try to inspect is there any action or just them talking.

I think of my writing, I try to remember, what do I revel in, what is my passions, this is me, this is what makes me happy. If I can remember to stay in the passions of my life, what I revel in, I will not sit around complaining and being rebellious.

The need to rebellion on the planet is minimal; a peaceful democracy is spreading all over the planet. Now we have these made-for-TV causes, meant to raise donations to make NGO fat cats rich.

I want to hear people say, I have some hobby project, saving the world is a personal problem and only if I was God would I be qualified, and I know I am not God.

I will make an introspective marker, I will remember the next time my passion is raised, am I reveling or some personal problem rebel that come to the forefront.

I do forgive people under 25, then do not know who they are and are explorers.

Counting Coup on Cars

Counting Coup on Cars
I realized I have developed a strange habit. I do not trust cars, buses, taxis or any vehicle. I see them as extreme danger. I find I touch them, do a small knock on their back fenders or side.

I just took my knuckle and tapped on the back of a Thailand Taxi, as he was accelerating over the Zebra. He never stopped, cut about 10 inches from my feet, and this is normal in 80 percent or more of the planet countries. I find I do one of two things, I often touch, then tap. And if I have something in my hand, I am carrying trash as normal in the world before I go my 50 meters or so and just drop it, well, there are many trucks in places like Africa so I just drop the trash in the back of the truck better than the ground. hehehe

If the enemy is close enough to touch, I touch, count coup and see if they even notice. Note, the enemy does not like this… a person that endangers me… a car close enough to touch with no effort should never be moving.

Ranong Thailand Visa Run

Ranong Thailand Visa Run
I will do a Visa Run tonight to Ranong, Thailand on the Burma border, I suppose I should say Myanmar, I just feel bad because the locals more or less call it Burma, so why would I call it something different.
I will enter Burma, then leave Burma and enter Thailand. This is called a Visa Run, some strange ritual travelers do.

When a person steps back and says out loud.
- I am going to walk across the border, the walk back. -
- I am will leave for 15 minutes, the come right back to Thailand. -

I do this for most countries of the planet; I will travel for 10 hours and leave a country before I will deal with the bureaucracy of the country. I will do about anything to not have to sit in a government office and wait for the Gods that be decide my fate.

To do you first Visa Run or to renew a Visa is a sense of pride, in your mind you say,
- I have lived outside my country. -

A Visa run is a sure sign of a person that is on the road to being a traveler, or an Expat. I do hope that one day the world invents a better system or maybe we will just globalize and say, everyone can go to any country and live. I like this idea more and more, I tend to believe the Mexicans in the USA would go home after earning money, as this is all they want, and some rich girlfriends in Mexico City would come and stay a few months. Or all of Mexico would move to the USA, which is a real possibility.

If I were to live in Thailand, I would say that Ranong is on the short list of places I would choose to live. The Visa is easy, there are two or more islands one is called Koh Chang and the other is Koh Phayam, I think. I have been to Koh Chang I think three times, it is easy, quick and a nice peaceful island full of Germans and other travelers who do not seem to need bars. I do not know Koh Pha Yam or whatever the name is, but I think there is more Tourists.

The call this place, Koh Samui before… before it became a Tourist Trap. Tells you something about Koh Samui, all Islands or Tourist areas are on a timeline, too much time passes and kiss the tourist destination goodbye. A good tourist area has an obvious reason to Visit, like the Pyramids of Egypt.

I will get on a bus at night, and wake up there the next morning. I do not do drugs, but this type of bus trip is getting old for me. It makes sleeping pills and other downers seem tempting. Sleeping on a bus is not natural either, I am happy to not be taking the Tourist Buses from Khao San Road. The local or long distance Thailand ran buses are more comfortable than the tourist buses, the seats are wider, the people that run the buses are human, and they often have food served.
Craig from Travelvice.com gave a good outline of the hotels in Ranong; however seemed to miss a couple. I am going to try to check out either the Spring Guesthouse. Ranong Hotels (Kiwi Orchard is on the Ranong Thailand page of Wiki and need to get the boot.)

Note, I hope this page revealed to Craig, you cannot quickly collect all the hotels in a city, you need to live there. Ergo the reason I created HoboHideOut.com it allows a never ending list of hotels. And soon people will be able to list hotels, then data entry people, one way or the other we are pointed towards a comprehensive list.

Ranong has Hot Water Springs; a person should if nothing else goes towards the Spring Guesthouse and watch the people if they still do it, collect water that has been purified by heat.

The island of Koh Chang has a special Agro-Tourism area with Cashews and Rubber trees, a special Island on the planet, and empty of tourist and most tourists seem to fall into bars that are just like the ones from their home. (Koh means Island, so I am being redundant, but you know why.)

Jumped from the Sony to the Fuji today, nervous decision, but the four AA Battery and a very quick time to take photos demonstration make the decision.

18,500 Baht for the silver Sony 15X with 2 Batteries or 12,800 Bat for the 18X Fuji with four AA rechargeable and one gig Sandisk chip and camera bag. I really needed to pay maybe more Baht and get three batteries and another charger to feel safe with Sony that in Africa I would have what I need to be redundant backed up.

Purchased at Panthip Computer mall about 100 Baht by Taxi from Khao San Road one way, and if lucky 60.

I now have another say 6000 Baht left over to buy a second small camera to with probably a 3X optical for my pocket as an extra camera backup when the Fuji breaks. The only dependable situation is two cameras and one small; I will also have the 3 what? Cell phone to backup as the third camera, to not have a camera this year will mean, someone robbed me of everything. I have never had a camera, cell or computer robbed in 10 years of travel, only one passport and 60 US dollars in two small thefts.

I have lost many items or forgot. Breaking is a bigger worry, and I am careful, but he pigs walking in front of motorcycle just are not predictable… Taxi driver throwing bags or bus drivers are a huge danger, nobody get to every carry the camera, computer bag for any reason, I am never that tired.

I have a flexible tri-pod that will help with the 18X wiggle while I am making an 18X long distance video of a the opposite sex doing a a wiggle. More photos and videos of the natives and crazy on demand foreigners coming up, you are welcome. I love a new gadget, a new toy.

For what is it worth to know, I spend about 700 dollars per year on camera and about 1000 dollars every two years on a computer. I have never used a warranty on a camera and every time used the warranty on the computer. A person need to coordinate the camera, the computer, the batteries and chargers at the same time, throw in a about 2 one gig thumb drives for the computer and never use a CD rom to back up photos, do it to the net, or on a thumb.

I suspect he is normal for Khao San Road, and the truth is I am abnormal in a place where normal is abnormal. I never would want to focus on the normal when I know I am the abnormal in an abnormal world, better with a zoom camera.

Ranong Hot Springs Rain Forest

Ranong Hot Springs Rain Forest
Ranong, Thailand on the border of Thailand and Burma has Hot Springs. There is rain forest near Coca Ecuador I visited; there are many places on the planet they call rain forest. I think there is a close variation of a rain forest next to the river and this Hot Springs Park in Ranong Thailand.

A Gazebo surrounded by river with footbridges at Ranong Hot Springs.

I was walking back from the Hot Springs here in Ranong, Thailand and talking with a Thailand girl who has been my good friend for three years. I said, this would be an interesting place to have trekking paths, the Farang love to trek. (Maybe there is, and I did not see.) I said this jungle to the right looks a lot like Koh Tarotao in the South of Thailand. As I was talking about trekking, and a desire to walk through hot forest, a desire I do not have, I thought to myself. This forest or jungle is not normal.

This forest is too dense, too much vegetation. When you see a full on rainforest like the ones near Coca Ecuador the air is wet, the trees are wet, it is like living in a steam bath. It rains so much you assume it going to rain, and the world is green, very green, no way to stop the growth, and hard to grow food as the weeds or vegetation reclaims too quickly any claim made.

This area is a small steam bath forested area, it is hot and humid, however only one part of the city.

To see a real rainforest can be a lot of work, I am not sure; this may be what I am calling a mist forest. When a waterfalls drops from high points on a mountain, the falling water creates a mist. This mist is similar to a rainforest, it makes everything grow.

Well, there is some interesting ecological happening here along the river, all the trees, and the vegetation is growing wildly. Now, I believe it is now the rainy season, however I think the combination of being a river, hot waters, and just few miles from the ocean has created a special type of eco-system. This seems to simulate a rainforest without all the problems of visiting a real rain forest.

Note, maps, explanations will give wildly large areas of land the definition of being a rain forest. I am not a person who formally studies rainforest; however, I have been in them too many times. A rainforest is recognized in my opinion when the vegetation is growing so fast, it is hard to farm, or stop. You can log a rainforest, but hard to stop the re-growth of almost the equal amount of green. Water, warm temperatures, living a cloud, and green things, say wow, thank you.

Area where people can sit and place their feet in the hot waters.

This woman is panning some black rock or something I have not been able to be translated into English yet, I took a nice video and will put up the panning process when I return to Bangkok.

If you were in Ranong and wanted to see this area of the planet, I think you could print this photo, show to a taxi driver, and expedite your trip there. At the hot springs are many restaurants, a spa, a big Wat and other walk around and have a day trip things to do. There is a hotel up by the road that is also a spa the in the past allowed non-residents to use.

Not many places on the planet, you can take a taxi and go visit what is similar to a rain forest.

R Deficiency in Thailand

R Deficiency in Thailand
Good with L not well with the R, there is a definite deficiency in Thailand of the letter R. I think Big Bird from Sesame Street needs to be called in for the epidemic… Oops sounds like an NGO, this R Deficiency is not an epidemic, it is endemic.

Easy to avoid, the Thailand people have no need to speak English, it is maybe a want, there is a big difference.

The Thailand people regularly pronounce the letter R as an L, the word Farang is pronounced Falang. R and the letter L are related in the mouth and tongue. It is interesting to travel the world and hear the letter R and L intermixed or used as the same letter. I have learned to anticipate words. Similar to speaking Spanish in Argentina and needing to change the sounds of sh to yah, whereby I understand the word. Sometimes I need to think to myself, what is the word if I use an R and not an L, then I understand.

The Thailand girl I am traveling with here in Ranong explained a joke made in Thailand, she said there is some test where they ask the person if they had Rice, and the person says in English.
- Yes, I have Lice.-

I have known my friend for about three years, and I have accepted she is not going to stop; it is a humorous idiosyncrasy of the Thailand culture.

Koh Chang Island Ranong Thailand

Koh Chang Island Ranong Thailand
What a mess of words, there is two or more Koh Chang Islands in Thailand, the popular one is near Cambodia. A Thai girl and I went to the Island of Koh Chang near the city of Ranong, Thailand that is on the border of Thailand and Burma, not the popular Koh Chang.

A word, what are words, the best way to confuse people is to use words. Koh is the Thailand word for Island, and the word Chang is the word for Elephant. There are elephant statues strewn around the country of Thailand, therefore the word elephant and the word Chang are difficult to use without confusion.

I learned some Thai words on the Island of Koh Chang.

Koh Chang - My Mee Change - Mee Tae Mah

I do not care if I Thai English spell them right, I suppose a person that reads understand English will pronounce them right. This means.

Elephant Island - No have Elephant, have Dog

Hmm, maybe I should say dogs as plural, there are many dogs on Koh Chang, however not any Elephants, and I cannot remember seeing any statures of Elephants. I would say there were about five good dog fights to watch and my Thailand friend says 20, not too important, however there are too many dogs on the Island of Koh Chang, and it needs and elephant or two.

My brain is full of scrambled English from speaking Thai English for a week, this damages my normal English.

Ok, the Island of Koh Chang is one of my favorite Islands in Thailand, this must be true or I would not have gone to the Island five or more times. I believe the reason I like this Island is that I am an idealistic person when I have nothing else to do.

The island of Koh Chang is the only place on the planet that I have personally visited that promotes Agro-Tourism, or more correctly, they use the words Agro-Tourism. Eco-tourism is a normal phrase used, which for the most part means, beware, we are trying to convince you we are nice ecological people, but all we really want is money.

The problem with all these words is Agro and Eco tourism is supposed to be an alternative way of earning money for the locals. The money given by eco-tourist is supposed to supplement the locals family income so they stop doing ecologically damaging things like slash and burn farming, dynamite fishing and other fun things.

If I do not hear the words alternative or help the local stop this or that, then I more or less know I am being green washed as normal. SNAFU Eco Tourism.

Koh Chang Agro-Tourism is probably a way to attract a few tourist like me to the Island of Koh Chang… If I knew it existed before I went, I did not, so I guess what attracted me was it is the closest Island by boat I could fine while in Ranong, Thailand on a Visa Run on first trip to Ranong many moons ago.

Nonetheless, I think Koh Chang is a great Island for the curious about the planet people. I eat Cashews, I love Cashews, and I would like to understand how Cashews are grown. It baffles me when people do not want to learn about food they eat.

NOTE: MARCH or APRIL is the months to go visit Koh Chang if you want to see Cashew Apples or the nut growing on the tree, and maybe being harvested.

From the great sidewalk that wanders around the Island of Koh Chang you can see many Cashew Trees, Rubber Trees, Coconuts, Bananas, Bamboo and a few other plants used by the world. They say Herbs, but I saw no Herbs, however the other words can be seen easily. There is tons of Rubber Trees and if you want to see them collect and make into rubber mats so send to the mainland this is the place.

This is a map of the Agro-Tourist path.

This is an example of how they collect rubber in a coconut shell.

This is Cashew Trees, a person needs to come in March and April to see the actual Cashew Apple or Nuts on the trees.

- Why do you trust the people of Kurdistan? Iraq. -

A contract outside the USA is about worthless...

I realized, when I hear a person from 99 percent of the countries talk, I know they are not to be trusted. I am hard pressed to say who I can trust anymore, it appears people are in the habit now of saying only what helps them, not what is the truth.

I suppose I trust Norway, a little with England, for sure, I trust Australian and New Zealand people, sometime the Germans and never the rest of Europe, and for sure, I do not trust Switzerland or France. The other continents are not considered.

Is there a difference between a government and their people, it is like saying I am not from the Tribe of the USA, I do not differentiate, I do stereotype the tribe.

Each individual person needs to be observed first, watched, then listened too, see if any correlation between their actions and their words. Then given a fair chance, if my bullshit meter does not go off, then I go to step two.

I hear the word Pakistan or Journalist and my bullshit meter starts to wail. The world is getting safer, but not because honesty is held in high regard. People laugh at honest people and ridicule them, this is tragic.

The card is supposed to work about anywhere on the planet, I suspect the cost is from 5-20 dollars per minute. I know one thing, when I need it, and I use it, I will not care; it will be I need a phone time, and the cost is irrelevant. I have not had this moment in the last two years of owning the card. I think my debit card is attached to it, to allow the money to flow.

One good part is they publish this 50/50 yes or no newsletter of travel tips. I am not sure how to subscribe, but the guy, maybe his name is Michael is now sending it, I have never noticed a name before.

Nonetheless, for the curious, it does have some merit, please do not take any travel advice carte blanc and think to yourselfe, this is a newsletter that is selling products, therefore there are some money-making reasons to steer you toward things to buy.

I sometime think of what I call the,
- Jerk Quotient. -
Normally I use a word that starts with A and ends with Hole. This is the percentage of people in a culture that are jerks. Contrary to any politically correct beliefs of justice, fairness and we need to treat all people equally,-------- I say equal, I do think it, and I do try, however less tell the truth, let us be honest… Ok, I know that is not natural anymore for many people.

Do not stereotype
Judging people
All men are created equal
Give them the benefit of the doubt

I was walking around with Robert, a man I met in Spain on Khao San Road, he is now is a Buddhist and Vegetarian.
http://robertstravels.blogspot.com/

Robert kept talking to the Taxi Drivers at the entrance to Khao San Road.

I said,
- Robert you know better than to start conversations with Taxi Drivers, you have been traveling too long to do that.-

A good traveler knows how to stop people, stop a beggar, stop a tout, stop any annoying person dead in their tracks. It is amazing ability, and a good book to read that explains about the Traveler phenomenon is a book:
Are you Experienced ? - by William Sutcliffe

A person that believes all people deserve to be listened too, are probably people I do not listen too, as I cannot be bothered.

I have people apologize, Andy, I did not read your post, or I do not read all your post, and I say,
- I put titles on them to help you, come on, I know you do not, please pick and choose, this is like a newspaper, read what you like and disregard the rest. -

To disregard people, ignore people, and walk on the other side of the street.

I have decided, the A - Hole Quotient is difficult, too subjective, it would be better to count the number of people I ignore per city block or 100 meters. As I was walking down Khao San Road yesterday, I think I ignored comments from about 1 person per 10 meters. I thought to myself, I know why I seldom walk down Khao San Road, it is not that I do not like Khao San Road, it is I do not enjoy ignoring people, it is not natural for me. I did not grow in in London, New York or Los Angeles, or Bangkok where people have upper levels advanced training in this, and it becomes their nature.

I can experiment for fun; I will count the actual number of people I ignored on specific tourist blocks of the planet.

The reason I walk down Khao San Road here in Bangkok, Thailand is because I want to see just how crazy people can be, it is good voyeuristic pleasure. There are people who look, and those who volunteer to become the entertainment. NOTE: Engage brain, in Africa, I was the entertainment for the locals.

I remember a women in Las bringing her children to view me, they walked around and pointed at me as if I was a cow.

Hmmm… I wonder, does this qualify as being a cheeky comment as defined by them British Lawyer girls in Tamale, Ghana?

Cheeky ---- trying to get away with saying something, hmmm or maybe it is the truth, is the truth cheeky?

Telling a Traveler to Go Home

Telling a Traveler to Go Home
I have people, say,
- Andy, you need to go home. -
This is an annoying comment, where the person saying this is completely unable to empathize with a person that has not lived in the USA for 10 years.

---------------------------------
Krung Thep, Thailand Southeast Asia

Andy of HoboTraveler.com ---
----------------------------------

There is an aspect of this comment that I accept and translate, transliterate or twist until I can see what they do not see or weigh their intentions. What they could be better saying,
- Go to a safe place that you know, and try to relax, become your normal self again. -

The USA is safe for me, but not normal, so I feel abnormal at home and normal traveling. This is the nature of an addiction, when I learned I like the reality of Alcohol more than the reality of normal, I could see there was a problem...

I like the reality of continuous travel more than than home... Addict, I need my rush.

DEVIATION FROM NORM
I have been dwelling on some words.
- Sin
- Normal
- Abnormal
- My culture
- Percentage of deviation
- Happiness

In this dwelling I have realized.
The USA is about 95 percent culturally the same as Canada
about 80 percent same as Europe
maybe 20 percent same as Thailand or Asia

To think going to Europe and it being a different culture is in someways naive.

On the other hand, what is the nature of Sin? To disobey. But who makes the rules I need to disobey to do a good job of this... hehehe?

As of today, I believe more a Sin is when you deviate from your fathers and mothers cultural rules more than about 15-25 percent.

I think mental illness is when this is maybe 50 percent or above.

If you look at travelers, it amazes me how a person can live in the USA, Europe or wherever and suddenly do a 90 percent change in their belief systems. I like my clothes, this is why I wear them. I do not see fisherman pants in Thailand as making me feel more comfortable walking around, they make me feel as if people are looking at me. I on the other had do see them as being perfect pants for as pajamas and on the beach.

To review the benefits of a cultural change is the pivotal concept here, a person that introspect, one day decides.... hmmm This type of clothing is better.

I for instance, seldom, except for funerals wear a suit, I just see wearing a suit as some tribal, primitive thing of the Western world and why would I wear a suit when the temperature is above 70 degrees F, not C.

I do not own a suit, and am suspect of a person that needs me to wear one for them to trust me, I really want the respect of individuals that can go to higher levels. But this idea is based on function. I just cannot figure out what a tie does for me, I do not need a tie to function, to be comfortable. I see a sport jacket as pockets and warmth.

Ok, so when a person tells me to go home, they are in a way saying, stop sinning, go to the USA and do what everyone else is doing. I think
- I am, I do what the USA people do, I have the same Reeboks, I wear clothes that are acceptable in the USA, and I do what I do in the USA. -

Contrary to any of the nuts who get on Thailand pages, I do not do what a vast group of people do in Thailand, I do not go to Phuket... I like Thailand because it is what I call a stocking up city.
Ooops, I changed the name to Base Camp on my top 150 needed Travelers subjects.

The art of travel is to retain self as we travel the world, go to the Yellow Pages if you need a shrink, travel if you are curious about the world. The world is always more crazy than at home, because it is a deviation of your norm, not theirs.

People on two week vacations need to go home, to tell me to go home means you are in continuous I am a tourist mentality or you are a Mom... I did not say Dad.

A bad day is when my normal routine world is more than 10 percent different than normal, the coffee, the shower, the food, etc. My computer crashed, I am in an internet cafe at 4:49 am in Bangkok, Thailand, to say the least the group of people in here are normal for this area, I am abnormal. I took a shower already today and they have not slept. I must realize, I am the abnormal here, I need to retain my self of many years of practice. In a way, take the good and leave the bad, but try to think it it really better, is there a good reason to change.

Photos are Gone Computer Crash

Photos are Gone Computer Crash
I have 20,000 photos on my laptop computer. (A guess)

I was asked by Hewlett Packard support here in Bangkok, Thailand,
- Is there anything of value on the hard drive? -
Ye, 80 gigs of information.
A friend of mine had his laptop stolen in Cebu, Philippines, he said,
- My world was on it. -
A man in Niger told me,
- All the data of our foundation is on this laptop. -

I asked the manager, if you need to replace the hard drive, could you give it to me it, so we can try to recover the lost data? She said something to the extent of we need to keep it so we can show the company we replace it.

MY HARD DRIVE DID NOT CRASH
- I HAVE ALL MY PHOTOS - (Relax Mom)

My hard drive did not crash, but I had to think, I went through the emotional turmoil. My main board was bad, thank the good Gods. However, I thought,
- What is on this hard drive that is not backed up somewhere else? -

My first thought,
The movie taken of panning for Tin in Ranong, then, I thought, not all my movies are backed up, then, what about all the large one Meg photos… (I sold some photos, the photos are worth more than the computer…)

Hmm, I am in a pinch, I have no simple way to back up 10-50 one meg photos per. I need to buy a portable hard drive now because the camera demands I have two. But a band aid, not a solution. I have a hard drive in storage here in Bangkok and the USA, when I pass through Bangkok, or the USA, I back up my computer.

I saw a girl go nuts in Siem Reap, Cambodia when she learn the CD ROM with all her photos were destroyed.

Information is sometime more valuable than the computer. Information is the most valuable commodity on the planet. I have 90 percent of my information backed up, and 100 percent about every six months, but not good enough.

A person can buy an extra hard drive to carry, and then when they rob you, the thief has two.

Putting 80 gigs of information on the internet in Africa is a major nightmare scenario, possible here in Bangkok. Real time, not feasible, but there is hope, or I suspect many a person will be crying over a lost photos.

I know of no good way to backup 20 gigs of travel photos that is 100 percent safe. I know of many expensive and very time consuming methods. The best solution I have today is to leave a 80-100 gig hard drive in various locations on the planet.

Video Panning for Tin in Thailand
I took this video when I was in Ranong, Thailand of a women panning for Tin in the river near the Hot Springs. It was funny, as my friend is saying to me, that what she is panning for is more expensive than Gold. I am thinking, if this is the case, I am going to jump in and join her.

Ranong is about 10 hours by bus from Bangkok, a nice place to visit, and the Hot Springs is special. I went to Ranong to do a visa run, as I went into Burma or Myanmar for 10 minutes, came back and I have 30 more time to stay in Thailand.

We also went to the Island of Koh Chang, an Agro-tourism place, full of Germans, sort of a German Expat colony.

Traveling Without Shame

Traveling Without Shame
Darn, I remember things from University; I truly hope I have advanced past these good and bad memories.

I suspect that long-term travelers often do a Geographical Cure, they want to outrun their shame, and the problem is they take the object of shame with them.

1964 Becket - A Movie, one of my favorites about the Honor of God.
The movie starred Richard Burton as Becket and Peter O'Toole as King Henry II and was directed by Peter Glenville.
Becket the Honor of God

I watched this movie in University, and I suppose I should forever thank my professor, if I could remember his name, or what he looked like. I suppose somewhere on the Indiana University Campus in Bloomington.

Shame is a wonderful thing, honor is better, somewhere in between hell and heaven is earth. I travel the earth, a small place, and getting smaller everyday, and keep thinking to myself,
- I see guilt the sister of shame in the eyes of people -

It is good fun to walk around in Bangkok Thailand and look into the eyes of travelers, tourist and Expats from around the world. They get a nervous look, sidestep, look down, and snivel, I think to myself,

- What have you been doing that you feel so much shame? -

I find it amazingly easy to not have shame, I cannot remember clearly when I lied the last time, or even misrepresented something. I suppose I should feel shame when I turn on the charm to get what I want, or turn on the I am angry act. No, I guess I feel no shame; I do this for a good reason.

I weigh, meter, hold high court and sentence people by the look in their eyes. I have no shame with this, I will glare into their soul if needed to find out who they are, just seems like a good way to test the world. I find secrets buried, covered up, hidden, fantasies of something their life is not.

Betazoid to the end, I will live and die by my instincts, I am honing them to a fine edge. I was musing the other day.

This is something that looks war like on the river, on the corner, behind the Wat or Buddhist Temple. It is on the water, maybe it is protecting the honor of Khao San Road, Thai people and making sure the Temple is protected.

I think shame lives in the temple and honor in this building, each person has their choice I suppose we can fight for shame or we can fight for honor. And I suppose the majority with walked around looking at the ground, shame based in a cell of their own thoughts.

I like the tourist attractions of war more than religions, I want to hear how a good person fought the good fight, not how someone went and prayed not to die. I see faith as having no fear.

Bangkok Wholesale Shopping

Bangkok Wholesale Shopping
In an AC Taxi, cheaper than Tuk Tuks in Bangkok, returning from the HP computer doctor, I saw this from the taxi window.

----------------------------------

Full stop, go direct to go, collect 200 dollar. Eureka, I have found it!

I stopped the Taxi, jumped out and jump for joy. I had found the small nylon strap I wanted, I have been trying to put an eye on this strap for months if not years. I have a hammock, I have the big fat strap kind, normally sold on Khao San Road, doubles as my blanket hammock, but, the nylon strap is huge, I want an oversized nylon shoestring big enough to use for a clothesline, but small enough to pack. I found it here.

My Thailand friend, a girl that actually can speak English tells me, this is where she used to go with here mother to buy cheap shirts. She says it is a wholesale market. Her mother had to buy 10 shirts.

Anything for a buck world… I have yet to go to a Wholesale market where they would not sell one item, yes, they do not want to sell one, but in my world travels they all sell one. A real wholesale market is a miserable place to be, but full of great bargains. Nobody speaks English, the food is local, there are no tours and the venders are not pushy, they do not care if you buy, they just want to sell.

I went to JJ Market, I have no memory, and I remember only a beggar crawling around on the floor, other than that. I cannot remember any reason to return. As Robert says about a Mall,
- A place full of things you do not need.-

I have not tested this business card. I will soon, this has the address of the Bobae (Maybe spelled wrong in English.) market in the Thailand language, telling a taxi in English, an address in English is about like talking to Elephants in Thailand. They will wave their trunks, allow you to get in.

They speak Elephant. To give directions to a Taxi driver best to have in Thailand language.

IF the taxi cannot read, maybe give him, I will lobby for girl taxis drivers, I have only seen about 2 in my life. Nonetheless, give him these photos, maybe it will help. My guess is less than 100 Baht Taxi, 3 US Dollars from Khao San Road or from Sukumvit in Bangkok, Thailand.

This may be the owner of the shop; he does not speak English, so who knows. However a nice guy and pointing works, and the price typed on a calculator, I am good go talk no Thai and buy.

This is more or less an Army Supply shop, full of great gadgets, however the street has many things. I can buy a luggage cart, umbrellas, nylon this, backpacks, and other hard to find, not sold in Backpack shops, but gear needed.

These are disposable ponchos, about the worst way in the world to stay dry, but works. Maybe a garbage bag is worst, however, I carry one of these in my camera backpack, it is on the bottom of the bag. Thanks the good Gods I have never needed in the last few months, but Cameras are allergic to water, and I suppose a good test of a photographers skills is to ask how they protect their camera from water.

I could take the P as the Brits say and ask some person on Khao San Road
- Excuse me sir, I can see by the 2000-dollar camera, you are a professional. Can you in your expert advice tell me how to protect your camera from water? -

I could talk days on this subject and I for sure not a professional, but I do protect a camera and computer, and probably better than most pros.

What if, this is a poncho for the what if situations in life, and if you do not think they happen, please excuse me sir, leave the resort once in your life.

Wholesale Market, maybe, all things in most of the world are about making money, the word retail, wholesale are abused, manipulated and sold down the river. I call Bangkok one of my Base Camp Cities, or stocking up cities. It is like Quito Ecuador, or Lima Peru, you can buy what you really need here.

Those of you looking for that blue propane tank, keep looking… hehehe.. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. It is for camping, not for travelers.

I have just returned from seven months in West Africa. I saw very few of the European flavor, in fact, almost everyone was black. I have been walking around in Thailand looking the many people of my tribe or a similar tribe….

Thailand people have small noses, the bridge of the nose is even recessed.

I have seen some children of the Farang a.k.a Foreigner marriages recently and was admiring the nose of the children. Darn, their noses are small and well formed, not these huge monstrous things of their father normally.

Want to get rid of that huge nose, what to have your offspring not genetically carry the trait, marry a Thai Girl. Note, you can also forget about having a son that is professional basketball player, sort of swimming against the current.

I hear rumors, if you marry a Thai or Filipino girl, you take them to Europe or USA, etc, all they do is sit and watch cartoons all day, just a rumor.

This is a big lizard, just diagonally across form the Diamond Hotel at the bridge near Khao San Road.

This baby is huge, and live under that big sack. I have seen it two times now while roaming the area. This bag is full of cans from the street restaurant, I THINK… Suspicious way of having the bag… maybe easy to accidentally open. Nonetheless, the lizard lives behind this sack, on the canal, river or whatever this murky water thingy is near Khao San Road. If you walked out of the Police Station, looked at the Wat and turned right you could continue to walk until you go over a bridge. Stop and buy an ice coffee at the 7-11 and then go to the bridge, when you get to the Bridge cross the street, it look…. It is the same side of the street as the Wat.

My answer to the Thailand girl,-
- I think you eat them. -

It bad enough terrorist bomb innocent people, do they have to attack poor defenseless Trash Bins; I used the word Bin to acknowledge our mean older brothers way of talking.

I regularly drop trash on the ground and take great pride in my creative ways of being a litterbug. I would gladly throw all my trash in a can if there is one within 100 meters, if not, let her fly…
(Best Trashcan country is Estonia.)

I at one times considered a joke post, making a map of all the trashcans in the Khao San Road area of Bangkok. I am annoyed, the world wants me throw trash down, they must, or they would give me an easy solution to trash. Now, of all things, the super dependable 7-11 convenience stores of Khao San Road seem to have removed most of their trash bins.

The scoop is this, Terrorist put bombs in Trash Cans. I found this one off Khao San Road and was happy to find it; 7-11 is as far as I can figure to be one of the most trash responsible stores in Thailand.

There is the recycled tire trash bin that is cool, and I it find them in strange places, and Had Yai seems to be very up to snuff as a city.

As a rule of thumb, I only throw trash down inside a city or village, never in the countryside. Maybe I am helping the world to create jobs, however you do it, and if I drop it in the street somebody will someday come and pick it up, and go dump it in the river for me…

Popular places for trash, backs of trucks that almost hit me, in front of stores I do not like, hand to people, leave on the counter of the store. I for sure leave a lot of trash in front of the hotel, the hotel needs to have a trashcan or in front of the hotel is good enough for me.

I often hand trash to locals, here it is your country, you figure out what to do with it.

It is not good, terrorist are blowing up trash cans, I do hope they continue to blow themselves up, I like the trash cans, and the best justice in their cowardly deed is they die. I seen nothing brave about killing yourself up, fanatical yes, zealot yes, but brave no, I do think there is a Darwin joke here in this mix.

Quick get out of the pool.

----------------------------------
Today, I received two mean mails in one day, sort of interesting and sad at the same time. It intrigues me that people can hype themselves up so much about some small blogger, on the other hand it sad they do this, they have the Whopper Size fast food order of rage.

Normally these posts are when I write about something, a big or small insult, and they love the country, hotel, whatever, but they love it too much… Therefore, nobody should ever speak badly, of even think bad. I actually sometimes test the waters to see who is out there and angry reading my blog, do a little provoking, hopefully to open minds.

Funny part, I really liked the KFC in Cairo, so I do not think it was the comments about the KFC. I think maybe I said, they do not speak English and do not know anything about a queue. Which I stand behind, the English was bad, and well, most of the world does not stand in line, so get in line. Egypt and the Egyptian Pyramids is a nasty place full of excellent jerks.

However, about the comments, .... see I provoked a little, but telling the 100 percent truth as I see it today.

I suppose I could talk about Freedom of speech, but that it cliché, I think I will explain my how to treat people equal theory.

If my friend Mike, an American, one of my best friends in the USA, and sometimes slow. If Mike did not think and cut line in front of me, I would say,
- Mike, you are not polite, go to the back of the line and wait your turn. -

So, if Egyptian people are my equal and I 100 percent believe they are, I need to treat them like my best friend.
- Egyptian, you are not polite, go to the back of the line and wait your turn. -

Patronizing and not belittling is to me is too close to real racism, if I believe a culture or group of people should not hear my opinions, then I am sort of saying, I am superior and you cannot learn. Primitive cultures can be dressed in suits and the only way you know they are primitive is their manners. (I hope we agree that a queue is a good thing, fair, and just.)

I was on the plane flying from Bamako, Mali to Kenya, where I would transit to Bangkok. A Mali man put his head over the center of the jet airplane aisle and spit. I could not believe it, then he does it again, I looked at him and said,
- Hey! -

The held up my two hands in African style saying with hand language,
- Are you stupid? -
(I hope we agree that spitting in planes should not be allowed.)

On the other hand, I could say, he is dumb, stupid, comes from here, and I would translate that crap to saying, you cannot learn, I believe he is not different from me, brain same way, or functions more or less the same.

Comments, I highly recommend you moderate all comments on blogs, and reject comments that use any curse words. (Search engines do not like, or this is your theme.) I look at this way, a person who starts out with calling me names, could not possibly give me any good advice, they are too dumb to realize, if they waited to the end, I would have read the whole post and then they could call me an idiot or whatever cliché type ways of saying this.

I do laugh, I read a lot, so I recognize styles of writing, if you are going to post anonymous, and not show your name, make sure and think about how you write and your style, otherwise I may know who it is.

I would love to restrict this to just people who are members of Hobo comments, however there is a ton of people on the planet who are extremely smart who just do not want to, and may not understand how comment work. I want to hear that needle in a haystack comment from someone who knows wisdom, however does not know the internet.

I got two in one day Wade, should I go celebrate.

I do hope people disagree with me, I go back and read old post, then want to comment, saying, Andy, I disagree… The world does change, and so do I, yesterday is not today, it is new Andy today, I do not have to adhere to something I said two years ago or yesterday, I have the right to adapt and change.

Note, I do not read extremely negative comments about myself, because it is negative, what I allow in my brain is what I become. However the study of anger and rage I do hope can help us to not have rage, I call these types of comments a burning rage.

It is interesting to see how the types of comments change from continent to continent. The people that post comments or more correct, get comments rejected when I am in Thailand are maybe worst people than the group hanging around the Egyptian Pyramids.

NOTE: If you go to the Pyramids, go on a tour, do not do as I did, and just go there, it not a good memory to collect about a great travel destination.

NOTE: Wade I think your new site is going well, I will only think you screwed up when you quit, I do not see any signs of quitting, only of expansive growth in your writing skills.

Traveler Diarrhea WARNING
I am scared; I could have died if I took diarrhea medicine in Niger, or maybe I did take the medicine and this is why my feet tingled for three months. I cannot remember, I was delusional sick.

I have a low-level fear of water; I have a high-level fear of food. I think all this do-not-drink the water noise is annoying. I think the dingalings should be saying,
- DO NOT EAT THE RESTAURANT FOOD! -

An empty restaurant with no clients and only me eating scares the shit out of me. I am 100 percent sure, a restaurant in India, Thailand, Philippines, Ghana, Peru, Jordan, will sell me food that is old. A very busy place is safer and me watching the cook.

I believe food poisoning and low-level food poisoning is 20 times more of a problem than water, people blame the water, when it was the food.

I had a conversation this morning with my Thai Friend who is has masters in Pharmacology and works in a Hospital.

She said, and I am not a doctor, I am not an expert, this information at best is critical speculation on my part.

She said,
- When you have food poisoning a person need to have Diarrhea to clean the body and drink lot of mineral water. If a person takes, Diarrhea medicine all the poison will stay in the body. -

It takes a long time to die from Diarrhea.
It takes a day or two to die from Food poisoning. (I think, I am not sure of any of this.)

My feeling and thought is this, it is never worth the risk to take the Diarrhea medicine. I may just keep poison in my body. I do not die from Diarrhea and most is Type II Diarrhea not the more dangerous type.

People say, go to a doctor, it is 100 times more complicated than you think when traveling, people extremely under-estimate what going to a doctor entails. Plus going to a pharmacist is normally a lot better idea, the pharmacist in 80 percent of the planet do the triage work that saves the lives of the people. The doctor is way too late.

I have said, by the time I find an honest Doctor, I could be dead.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triage

Note this is again one of them annoying times where I am positive, I am not perfect, I do not know. I would love to hear experts and critical opinions on this subject. If you know of an expert, please send this email to them or the page link, and ask for help. I really want to learn more about this, and reading lapses full of nebulous conclusions. I want comments, I am in Thailand, not the USA, I am in an no English information vacuum.

The implications about advice given to travelers on diarrhea is amazing, the normal standard advice about how to deal with travel diarrhea could be crazy wrong.

Slavery, class systems, tribes, Kings, Queens, Clerics, Monks and all the religious classifications. Equality is still a leap, jump and hop away from reality. However, this King or Rama stopped slavery in Thailand, and that is good thing.

This is a photos of a photo and he is probably young here, I often wonder how a person can be so loved. This photo is hanging in the entrance area of my Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

This is on the 100 Baht paper money, it has a value of about 3 US dollars and growing... hehehe

Quote from Wiki

King Chulalongkorn the Great or Rama V (royal name: Phra Chula Chomklao Chaoyuhua ... (September 20, 1853 – October 23, 1910) was the fifth king of the Chakri dynasty of Thailand. He is regarded as one of the greatest kings of Siam. The Thais call him "The Great Beloved King".

Chulalongkorn was born September 20, 1853 in Bangkok as the oldest son of King Mongkut (Rama IV) and Queen Debsirinda. His father gave him a broad education, including instruction from European tutors such as Anna Leonowens.

Chulalongkorn succeeded his father on October 1, 1868, but the chief minister Chao Praya Si Suriyawongse served as regent for four years, as Chulalongkorn was still too young to rule. During this time he traveled to neighbouring western colonies including Singapore, Java and India, to study western politics, administration, lifestyle and colonialism. Later during his reign he also visited Europe twice, in 1897 and 1907, which makes him the first Thai king to visit Europe.

On November 16, 1873, he was crowned for the second time. During his travels he had learned about many reforms needed to modernize his country. With the help of the Belgian Gustave Rolin-Jaequemyns he managed to keep his country independent even though both France and Britain were colonizing most of Southeast Asia and the former constantly aggressive towards and antagonistic in its relations to Siam. He did, however, have to cede some territory to these two powers, notably claims on parts of what are now Laos, Cambodia and some northern parts of Malaysia.

Chulalongkorn (Above left) with contemporary monarchsKing Chulalongkorn modernized the government by introducing a cabinet system, and the semi-feudal provincial administration was changed into a modern administration with provinces (changwat) and districts (amphoe) as it still is today. He declared amnesty for all political prisoners, and also gradually abolished slavery.

Stop Quote

I would love to go into a long opinion on this and that, however freedom of speech is not for all countries.

Steve said,

This is so stereotypical American…

I have been in Thailand for maybe 45 days; this is not a long time for me to be in a country. This is a long time for one hotel. It is the only hotel in the Khao San Road area with acceptable internet in the room and price.

Presently, today, November 23, 2007 I feel like a father watching my pregnant wife, and every day the baby kicks, every day we ask the doctors a new question. I am a nervous wreck, I know it, I can feel it, and we are going to give birth soon to a huge baby Internet Site. is going to scream and gasp for it first breath of air, opens its eyes, turn them to the light, and try to see.

My friend Craig from Travelvice.com is in Peru, ready to have a real baby, and you can feel the tension.

Craig is afraid to move, and so I am I, we both want the birth to go off without problems. He is doing ultrasounds, and I am asking every web site doctor I know questions, I even purchased a PDF Book from Aaron Walls for 79 US Dollars called SeoBook.com

This is why I am in one place, I am a Hobo, I work and Travel, I am not a bum or tramp.

I was a Real Estate Broker for 14 years, when Steve asked or alluded to the idea of renting a home or apartment in Thailand. I almost said,
- Are you nuts? -

Not a good comment to say accidentally or pre-mediated to Steve, he has to be the most Alpha Male, dominating personality I know today. There was this person by the name of Leighton that worked for Frito Lay I worked for 20 years ago, international and domestic manager of distribution centers that was more Alpha,

I could have said, are you nuts, this is American. I am a dominating personality too, I try my best to hide it and keep it down to where it is possible to have a few friends.

However, my first thought, and I am probably more the pre-mediated type than Steve, not Leighton. I stopped this idea immediately of suggesting that he was nuts, and realized this is just a normal idea for an American and European person so treat at just a normal comment, try to not think and ignore. I try to ignore Tourist; they are insanely naïve about the planet Earth. Steve is far from normal, however to rent is very Amerian normal.

Renting or buying real estate in another country is tantamount to investing in the Thai Baht. If I was buying money, Dollar or Euros are my only options, since OPEC uses Dollars; I think Dollars are the best option.

I would say the Thai Baht is not stable, this country had a Military Coup a few months ago, and I think the King will die in the next few years. Buying in this country seems close as Looney tunes as a person can get.

Ok, I do not rent apartments, homes, however, I do think about renting a home to start a Hostel every day of the week. I would rent the cash flow, and recoup my investment in less than five months or not do it, maybe one year.

However to rent an apartment in Thailand would be the same as purchasing a big lead or iron ball, about 15 inches in diameter, and chaining it to my leg. I know I would cut my leg off eventually to escape. I think of round trip plane tickets as impossible commitments to uphold, who wants to promise anyone or anything you will obey when you do not have too.

This is the bottom line, I am free, and I do not purchase commitments that do not give me more freedom. My computer give me freedom, I do not have to walk to the internet café every day.

The American goes to paradise, and then wants to build a home on it to destroy it, and make it into America.

The Brit goes to another country and what do they do, go to the closest British Bar and thinks of it as their local.

I suppose the Germans and Swedish go to Pattaya or Phuket, Thailand and….

Buying a home is like getting married.
Renting a home is like having a girlfriend that lives with you.

I can think of hundreds of good reasons to have a girlfriend or to get married. There are only two good reasons I can figure outside the USA to rent a place.

1. A business venture.
2. To have what I want under my control.

I was going to type in, to store my stuff, but this is a terrible reason, I do this already in a storage room of the Sawasdee Smile Hotel, in a place in Nepal, and a place in Cusco, Peru, I suppose my parents home.

A hotel room always has a few problems. My present room is good.

1. The staff is excellent, and extremely good in this cold fish country of Thailand, they are warm, talk English 10 time better than normal for Thailand.

2. The room has High Speed Internet in the room.

3. The room is quiet, except for the never-ending sound of an air conditioner.

4. The cost is 390 Baht or about 12 US dollars, and this is expensive, a good price for Thailand would be about 250 Baht, anything over 250 Baht and I start to complain about the Hotel.

The problems are,

1. No hot water, only my solution…

2. No TV in room or common area that is acceptable.

3. No Guest Kitchen.

I would move maybe to another hotel for a guest kitchen, other than that the internet is the reason to overlook almost any problem, and this hotel has a huge problem I am not going to discuss and I hope they solve it.

The reason to rent is to remove my three problems, kitchen, TV, and hot water. The truth is this, the TV and Hot Water are easy to find, the Sawasdee Smile has this for 220 Baht, however no AC and a shared shower. A shared shower is good, no moisture in room to give to the Ants.

The bundle of benefits is what I rent or buy, and in real estate if you buy the bundle of rights. What am I buying in Thailand, the bundle of freedoms?

The money, the money, everyone thinks about money too much, I would invest in my room.

I have thought about saying to Charlie, I will buy a TV, install hot water, and paint the room; maybe buy two new mattresses for the room. This hotel has cable TV already, and if I had the TV, Hot Water, I would be in Hotel Heaven at 390 Baht per day.

I would leave and ditch the hotel for a guest kitchen, with a common area that has a good TV that plays movies. The location is good in a strange way, I can walk both ways, and I can get a taxi or bus easy in front of the hotel.

The whole point is this, for 35 US dollars I can rent all these features for too much money in Sukumvit, Phuket, or Chang Mai. I want to live for 30 days near Khao San Road, not a bar babe area like these types of hotels, the annoying people who live in them are over the edge of my tolerance. It is the neighborhood, if I rent, I would be committed to a neighborhood.

I leave for the Philippines; I have been searching for a hotel anywhere in the Philippines with Hi-Speed Internet in the room for less than I think 800 pesos. This is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a room in Asia!

I can rent an AC room in Thailand for about 60 US per month.
I could probably rent the same in Philippines for about 100 per month.
I can rent a room in Togo for 60 per month.

Paying 12 or 18 US dollars for a room in Thailand or the Philippines per day makes the locals say to me.
- Are you rich? -
Or
- Are you stupid? -

No, I am American…. Hehehe

It is amazing how many people want to travel, then rent an apartment, I think, I thought you told me you wanted to travel.

Ping Ping Thai Style

Ping Ping Thai Style
Ping Ping
I walked down stair, there was a staccato machine gun conversation going on between the housekeeper and the one reception girl. The housekeeper said blah blah blah PING PING blah blah.

This was like a bullet, peeng, peeeng, and I started to laugh, and mimicked the sound. Ping Ping

They all started to laugh, and the cleaning lady turns her head and says not look at her.

The exceptional and rare individual Em who speaks about 20 times better English than the normal Thailand reception person explained. Ping Ping is winking both your eyes, like the first time you see a pretty girl… Therefore, they are all showing me how to wink their eyes, not one eye, both eyes like a hand fan, in quick motion.

Thailand is subtle; flirting with Thailand girls is beyond my desire to learn. Nonetheless, I now will forever be watching the Thailand girls eyes, I am already too observant. This make me think of my well-used joke,
- My mind is like a bad neighborhood, you do not want to go in alone. -

I think if and when I ever understand 2 percent of what is happening in Thailand I will know too much. Thailand is like a private joke and you are involved in the joke, however they will never tell you or allow you to understand.

Ping Ping: Rapidly winking both eyes fast. Maybe the look you give and exceptionally beautiful girl the first time you see her.

This is a photo of the Thailand Girl who is cooking and making the sesame seed peanuts. She showed me what I believe is a Thailand Newspaper article written about her.

I am told this Thailand Girls name in English means Happy Heart, she will say it in the video.

This is a platter where she is drying the peanuts.

Close up photo, this is annoying, the Air Conditioning in the room has condensed on the lens, or there is depth problem from close to far with the focus. This problem of Air Conditioning and then entering the normal hot air needs a solution.

Sala Thai Architecture of Thailand

Sala Thai Architecture of Thailand
Sala Thai is a small roof raised platform covered area for people to sit. There is this Asian or Thailand form of Architecture called Sala Thai, I have observed it for years, maybe now I am learning a little more about. This type of architecture appears to me to revolve around the need to wait.

This is for the Thailand Police, a waiting or stopping point.

This bigger photo shows the Sala Thai nestled in front of the apartments for the Wat, this is behind the large Wat or Buddhist Temple close to Khao San Road. The Sala Thai is on the right rear corner before you enter an area of apartments for Monks. I am not positive on this information.

Everyone on the planet there is a need to wait, for a bus, a horse cart, or just to wait for the day to pass. They will make a roof above these small waiting points for protection from sun and rain.

Canned Buddha

Canned Buddha
Canned History and Breathtaking this and that, packaged opinions, with cliché photos and such are not my forte. I just do not like to look at travel photos, I like to go into hardware stores and see what tools are being used by the people, a Buddhist Temple is boring.

However, here is a couple of photos you can see easily in Thailand.

I do not know the name of this place, however probably worth the effort, it is about 30 Baht Tuk Tuk ride from Khao San Road or maybe a 20 minute walk. I do not know the name, however it was a five story high Wat or Buddhist Temple and behind the Burger King and keep going to your right.

I do not like to write Thailand names and really do not like to look at religious tourist attractions. I went this place with a Thailand girl to encourage her, and support her as she is Buddhist. The small fair that was happening at the bottom was very funny, eating bugs, and such.

This is what happens when a Thailand girl or person puts there hands on a Pineapple, what comes after they finished is great to eat.

I travel round and round the planet earth, I see a good idea in one country and wonder why they do not use it in another. It is hard to come up with an original idea and sometimes I think,
- All the good ideas… have already been taken. -
Note… allthegoodideas.com is now taken…

However, you make the stew, the problem to me is this, we need to share recipes, we need to share ideas, and good ideas could make a better life for a family. I think we need to pass them around, easy to do now with a video we put on the internet for all to see.

There are many Pineapples for sale in West Africa, and it appears to me, if the vendors of West Africa, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast etc. would cut up a Pineapple and sells this way, a family could have more money, and this very healthy food would be eaten more.

I suppose when I was there, I should have videoed the way West Africa cut the peeling off an Orange and sold it.

After they are finished, these Thailand girls with Black Hair and Brown Eyes push this cart around selling Pineapple,
