Hello to my friends of Iquitos and my enemies.
May 2007, From Togo Africa
Andy of HoboTraveler.com
I see Iquitos as similar to the book Cannery Row by John Steinbecks. I am feeling like the Doc. You are all both Saints and Sinners, and all in between somewhere.
This is Andy of HoboTraveler.com, the one who put up this page and is the moderator... Note, I have done a terrible job of this, but we have found a way to do better! I can not clean and delete and ban easy. The Hobo is growing and doing better.
Gerald Mayeaux
I know Gerald, I know Mick, I know Wally, I know many people in Iquitos, and will one day return. I am presently as of May of 2007 in Togo, Africa.
There seems to be a big fight in Iquitos, I am guessing it is over the Golf Course or Club. I know everyone is well intended and thinks all is good. However, this page is for fun, and some serious warning. Gerald and Mick are not saints, and I could write a book on both these expats and make a fortune from their mis-adventures. I would read the one on Mick first... hehehe
Ok PLEASE stop with the character defamation, this is not the place, I pretty much know all of you, and I think all of you are guilty.
Being an Expat, I have traveled for 10 years now, 76 countries, and the Expat world never stops and enjoys life. Work is for the USA, Europe and rest of the planet, Iquitos is the Wild West of play, and I know you men and women there.. some real good stories anybody could tell on all of you, no exceptions.
I know you all are guilty, so none are guilty, and all are guilty.
I am going to allow the post that exist to remain, if Gerald wants to get on and post a rebuttal, then good. But after this, the Golf Course Agenda War is over.
Thanks and enjoy life, say Hi to Wally, Mick, Gerald and all my other friends and enemies in Iquitos.

Thanks Mike for the info.
I was in Iquitos last September and I heard all about Mr Mayeauxs behaviour and I have no reason to doubt its authenticity. I was told that after he beat up the little 8 year old street kid it was in all of the Iquitos newspapers, the radio and the T.V. I also heard that Mayeaux went on the television to offer his explanation. He told the viewers, without any sign of remorse that the police told him to do it.
Can you or anyone esle confirm this ?

Hello Malcolm,
I have read your comment about Gerald mayeaux. I only wished you had talked to me when you where in Iquitos.
Everything you have heard about this horrible man is true. The reason he gets away with it is because he has connections and money.
For more on him check out these sites ;

I have recently returned from Peru and I had a great time. While I was in Iquitos I visited the Yellow Rose of texas bar. I could\\-nt understand why the local expats don\\-t use the place. I asked one american and he just said \"Talk to the locals\". I
did just that and I could not believe what these people told me , and it was repeated many times. The texan owner hurts the little street children by sticking pins in them, he apparently beat up an 8 year old a few years ago.
I do not comprehend if these things are true, and I believe they are, then how does his evil creature get away with it.
Can someone tell me ?

Hola,
Gracias

Hey Wally and Angelica
In the short time I spent in Iquitos proper, the two of you remain strongest in my memory, Wally for good conversation and an Alligator shish-ka-bob that can only make one drool in anticipation of the \"next time\" and Angelica for her smile and attentivness as she tried to figure just what in the hell the gringo was trying to say, anyway!! Keep \"Mad Mick\" away from the beer!

Jungle Jims is a relaxing and friendly place and the food is great and for a reasonable price too.
Wally is a great source of information and friendly advice and always has time to answer any questions or help out in any way he can.
Thanks Wally for an enjoyable experience in Iquitos.

I only had one night to spend in Iquitos, and did I ever meet all the right people!
Wally was so kind in customizing a dinner plate for me to accomodate my desire to try new foods. The steamed crocodile was very different! Jungle Jim\'s is a great place to sit and relax in the heat. The beer is cold and the people are very warm and friendly.
A highly recommended place for everyone!
Next time I\'m in town, I\'ll check out Wally\'s hostel -- a great, inexpensive place to stay!
Until then,
Keep exploring the world,
and don\'t drink brown water!

Thanks Wally for all your friendly advice and chat while we were in Iquitos.
Jungle Jims is one of the `Must Do\'s\' of Iquitos. Agreat place to numb the itch of the mozzie bites with the aid of a few cool beers.

Hola mis amigos,
I have just come back from spending four of the best months of my life in Iquitos and a lot of that was in Jungle Jims. It's a great place to meet people traveling and locals as well,I think Mick and Wally can be included in that now!Watch out for Jimmy the parrot,he's not as sweet as he looks, and remember never to sit in 'Mad Micks' chair!Have a beer waiting,I'll be back soon.Emily

While walking down the streets of Iquitos, 2 men
stopped me to say hello; Wally and Michael. Their
hospitality was incredible! And their kindness and the
information they provided for me was priceless. I
can't stress enough how wonderful my short visit was.
This place comes HIGHLY recommended for anyone
travelling in Iquitos.
P.S. Wally, again the crocodile dinner you prepared
for me was delicious, the vegetables just wonderful,
and the beer was the coldest I'd had in Peru.

Cheers to Wally and his friends for introducing me to Jungle Jim's Pub!!! I spent my last night in Iquitos having a fantastic time listening to jungle yarns that the guys like to tell newcomers. If you go to Iquitos you must stop by the Pub and pay Wally a visit. The best part is the Pub's open 24 hours...how's that for service?
Ciao,
Fionna
