OVERVIEW
Rinjani Trekking Club has been taking adventurers to the summit of Gunung Rinjani since 1997. Since then we have placed more international tourists on her summit than any other company. We have an intimate knowledge of the Gunung Rinjani National Park, what is the best time of year to travel, when to break camp, which is the best route etc.
In May 2007, we will be conducting the first ever ascent of Rinjani from the southern village of Aibuka. This awesome journey will take us to the never explored southern rim, down to the shores of the lake, where will use inflatable rafts to take us to Gunung Baru base camp. Gunung Baru which is still active. We will then head to Rinjani summit and end the expedition in the beautiful Senaru.
THE EXPEDITION
This expedition is the first of its kind and should only be considered by those with an adventurous spirit, a flexible mind and a strong body.
The expedition will attempt the Rinjani summit from inside the calderas, up to the final summit ridge that is used today. We will approach this side of the mountain from the southern rim via Aibuka. From there we will head to Segara Anak and then use inflatable to transport us to the shores of our first base camp. This camp will be used to explore the base of the active volcano, Gunung Baru, and then ultimately climb its 500m slope to its rim. We will peer into the calderas of a mountain that only erupted last year.
From base camp 1 we will start our push to Rinjani summit from inside the calderas, up its western slope to the present day base camp. We will camp and the following day summit Rinjani, returning to Senaru via the normal route.
This is a truly unique way to climb one of the best volcanoes in the world. The expedition is also open to parasailers and hang gliders who believe they can can reach Rinjani summit.
ITINERARY
This expedition will be accompanied by an Rinjani Trekking Club guide as well as a local bi-lingual guide, porters are provided for, so are tents and cooking utensils. All food is covered for on the expedition, except for lunch and dinner on the first and last day. All park fees and admission fees are also included.
Day 01
Early flight to Lombok. Then transfer you to hotel in senggigi ( Puri Saron ). That night we will have an expedition briefing.
Day 02
Another early start for the beginning of a challenging 8 hour day. We head for Aibuka on Rinjani southern slope. From there we will climb to the rim. Awesome views over the lake, Bali and Rinjani summit.
Day 03
After a delicious breakfast, we head down to the lake which we believe wont take too long. From there we set up the inflatable and paddle towards Gunung Baru. Set up camp at the base of Gunung Baru.
Day 04
Today we will climb to the summit of Gunung Baru and look inside an active volcano. The going will be very tough as the slopes are pure scoria. Back to base camp. Hot spring bath to sooth our bodies.
Day 05
Today we climb the inner calderas to the present base camp. Great views again and anticipation of summit day tomorrow.
Day 06
Early morning wake up call, 2am. We head off for Rinjanis summit and hopefully reach it by sun rise. We will be aided by a full moon. Back down to the lake and other hot springs.
Day 07
Trek to the northern rim where we will camp for the night and see exactly the journey we have just done.
Day 08
Back down to Senaru for a nice shower, food and a walk to the local waterfalls. Great little village and a must see. If we are lucky we may get involved in some local Sasak stick fighting.
Day 09
Today we head back down to Sengiggi beach. We will do this early so we can take the No Roads boat out to Gili Tranwangan and spend the rest of the day snorkeling and relaxing. Back to the Sheraton for accommodation
Day 10
This is where the adventure ends for us. We can either fly home via Bali or if you are up to it take a No Roads trip to Komodo Island or the Orangutans of Kalimantan.
