Cotton clothes and not nylon is best.

The locals will be wearing the type of clothing that is best for the area.
An air conditioned room is great if the Hotel or country has dependable electricity. If for some reason you are in a country like India or Iraq where the electricity goes off regularly, then check to see that the hotel had a electricity generator backup that works.
If you are in extremely hot places like Basra, Iraq go sleep on the roof.
Pay attention to the locals and how they live.
Take 2-3 showers per day.
