Answer:

Use a Cliche Only When You Know it is a Cliche

CLICHE
A cliché --- is a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel. The term is generally used in a negative context.

It is difficult to always say a novel and unique comment, however to quote the guidebook, or to repeat well worn comments is tedious. There is a pretty good book by the Lonely Planet on how to be a Travel Writers, the whole book more or less deals with writers saying not to be cliche.

I suppose a cliche normal starts with...

Breathtaking

Awesome

Beyond Belief

The Worlds Greatest

The most

My least

If you have heard it, so have others.

Note, I am not saying not to use cliches, I believe you may be on the worst bus trip of your life, but it should be the worst.
