How they make backpacks

How they make backpacks

This is my explanation on how the make a backpack in developing nations

1. The find a backpack made in a western country.

2. They copy the backpack.

3. To copy correctly they make a pattern or template out of very had card stock. Like poster board but thicker.

4. They than cut all the pieces.

5. They have what they call a factory, it is normally just a room in a house with five sewing machines.

- They do not make sure they have all the materials before they start.

- They do not calculate what is needed.

- They do not make a list of all the items needed.

6. They start making a bags.

7. They then may or may not cut the card stock.

8. They will make a few and maybe cut the card stock or just keep measuring he sample.

9. A good company will make the card stock immediately, I have only seen this once, in maybe 30 factories.

10. They will make it fit, or cut and tear apart seams until they learn a system.

- What this means is they by trial and error make the first 10 bags, maybe after they have redesigned the bag and it no longer what you or I want, they are making them easy. So then you need to stop them again and start over.

I personally believe the only way to make correctly is to make all the templates myself. The collect all the materials in one place. Force them to make all the pieces. Then assemble them.

Of course there has to be about three trial runs.

This is the problem, they will not slow down and do three good bags. They want an order for 100 and they are obnoxiously greedy about the idea they can do it properly. Developing mean to me they are trying to develop the ability to do something correct. They have no idea how to do thing correct or they would be developed.
