How much electricity am I using?

You can understand all the terms below and try your best to not overuse the electricity in a hotel and still have problems because.... maybe the owner has place all the rooms or 6 of the rooms and any use over 1 light bulb make fuse or breaker flip and stop.

WORDS OF IMPORTANCE:
I am going to define these in a practical sense, but not in a correct technical sense. A way to use and understand, but not to know the complete why it works.

WATT - Electrical Devices like hair dryers, light bulbs, and microwaves are rated in watts. The higher the number the more electricity you be using or the more likely to blow a fuse or breaker.

VOLTS - The normal way to rate a battery.

FUSE VS BREAKER
A fuse is replaceable and cost money. If you blow a fuse an owner of a hotel will have to pay money to replace the fuse.
A breaker pops or resets so the owner of the hotel can just flip or reset the switch and you are back in business.

220 - More powerful than 110 and used in two-thirds of the world.

110 - The common electricity in the the USA, but not in Europe

SURGE - The sudden intense use of electricity cause by turning on a hair dryer. If for instance the lights dim when you turn on a hair dryer that is a surge, the intensity of the lights may increase as the juice flows into the line to accommodate. A surge will burn a fuse, or can pop a breaker. You do not want big surges.

LET'S BE PRACTICAL

# OF LIGHT BULBS? A normal 100 Watt light bulb is a good way to rate your equipment or define.

These  are 1 light bulb type devices normally.
- Computer
- CD Player
- Battery charger

BIG USERS- All these are between 10 and 20 light bulbs

- Hair dryers
- Electric Hot Plates
- Electric space heaters
- Any type of electrical cooker

THE 110 VERSUS 220 DEBACLE

! MOST COMPUTERS CAN BE USE OR ARE MADE FOR BOTH !

MYTHS:
I will have less problems in Europe than South America. This is a problem of old circuitry and people overloading them, and has nothing to do with proper wiring. In most of the poor countries they will put a larger fuse in and you will never have a problem. They may burn down their concrete buildings, but you will not have a problem. I probably have the worst problems in old modern buildings that have not been wired properly. A grass hut is easy to rewire, a 300 year old castle is a nightmare.
