There is land south of Tropic of Capricorn

There is land South of Tropic of Capricorn
I picked up this hefty book by Paul Theroux, The Happy Isles of Oceania, wondering how far a person could travel in 500 plus pages.

I started reading about New Zealand, and for five minutes, I thought, there is land to the south, there is land down there, which is not covered with snow.

If you ever read I was frostbitten, froze my toes, any of them problems, then assume I have also lost my mind. I do not plan in this lifetime to be cold; I only like traveling on inhabited warm planets. I was reading away and it hit me, there is land south of 23.5 degrees, and it is warm now, it could be hot, I could go south for the winter, I mean real far south.

There is NOT land south of Tropic of Capricorn

Crap, the only big patch of land is Antarctica, and I am not rich enough for that place. New Zealand, I guess is possible, and parts of Australia, however shoot, I was hoping there was big areas of thawed land.

Punta Arena, Chile and Rio Gallegos, Argentina and all that Patagonia noise is for Penguins, I been there, done that. When you go out to explore a planet, take a map, and get a good grip on where and why the sun is over your head.

I better start thinking sailboats.

One Solution to Air Conditioned Room Fogging Camera Lens
Condensation forms on lens of a camera when you leave an air conditioned cool room and enter the normal warm air in Tropical climates. I spend about 95 percent of my life in the Tropics because I do not like the cold and snow.

I used to live in five dollars per day hotel rooms, and I now live on about 10-15 dollars per day rooms. With this room, I normally get air conditioning, color TV, cable and possibly a remote that works.

It also gives me a long list of other problems I did not have before my new lifestyle change. I would rather have a fan room, however the noise of the fan, and how it dries my eyes is starting to wear on my nerves. I now do interviews of rooms for noise levels.

PROBLEM
I take my cold camera outside the room and for about 30 minutes to 1 hour, the lens fogs over, thereby distorting the photos.

I think the default solution is traveler carry their cameras around in their hand until they find a photo. The camera rapidly acclimates and the problem is solved.

I do not search for photos, when I see a photo, I take the picture. Therefore my camera is in the bag, insulated by the bag, and the time it takes to warm up is more. The big problem is when I am in my room and something suddenly occurs outside my room, whereby I need to use my camera now. My new solution is this, I leave the Air Conditioning on, hope I have a screen, open the windows and hang the bag facing the outside world and air. If I really want to be safe, I am also turning on my light bulb and allowing the heat of a lit light to heat the camera while hanging in the normal air.

To understand this problem, you need to read about condensation; however, this is more of simple solution.

Photos of the bag hanging in the window, I have the flap unzipped and open, I also want the bag to warm up and not have humidity inside the bag.

I have closed the window, effectively having the bag outside the room, but not really, I have to be careful and check if anyone can open the window and steal the camers. S.O.P., nothing new.

I purchased this hook, and tied on string.

NEW RICH - Quotes

… is to get rid of all the unimportant time wasting tasks in your day. Then try to tele-commute or start a simple business that is highly automated. And use the spare time to do things you really want to do.

New rich, their currency is time and mobility.
- New Rich Defined and Summary

What is the new rich? It is living and working free of the restrictions of time and location… creating a lifestyle where you can pretty much live anywhere, work when it fits your schedule and still make a living.
- New Rich Defined

The New Rich (NR) are those who abandon the deferred-life plan and create luxury lifestyles in the present using the currency of the New Rich: time and mobility
- New Rich Defined

The new rich are a whole different breed. The new rich define wealth as an abundance of experience and excitement. They have the freedom to do whatever they want and enough resources available to do, go and see the world while they are young enough to enjoy it. That’s the lifestyle I want
- New Rich Defined

… anyone “dissatisfied” with any aspect of their lifestyle. It is a targeted to both employees and entrepreneurs. He defines the term for a new subculture called the “New Rich”. It is encouraging to me to know that I am very comfortable in this “subculture”. One of the biggest “ahas” I personally had was the fact that I am still operating in many way like a “corporate employee”, despite having left the corporate game almost 3 years ago!
- New Rich Defined

I remember being in Mexico 10 years ago, thinking to myself, wow!, I am rich, I can live like a king, because I earned money in the USA, and I can go live in countries where one days pay in the USA is a months wages. I know, I am rich, I feel it every day of my life for the last 10 years, and it feels good.

Pet Bedbug in Bangkok Hotel

Pet Bedbug in Bangkok Hotel
I sprayed a bedbug yesterday with insecticide. I then put in a plastic bag, and the crazy thing is still alive today.

I guess what you cannot kill, you can always make into a pet.

I really do not want to learn about bedbugs. Well, I have learned, they move pretty slow, and if you want to coral them, take a lit light bulb and they will avoid it. Therefore without touching it, you can get it to change directions.

The seem slow to right themselves is you turn them over, in many ways they act like a turtle. I am trying to think of a name. Maybe I can take one them long Thailand girls hairs and make a leash and take it for a walk.

Controlling infestations
With the widespread use of DDT in the 1940s and '50s, bedbugs all but disappeared from North America in the mid-twentieth century.[2] Infestations remained common in many other parts of the world, however, and in recent years have begun to rebound in North America. Reappearance of bedbugs in North America has presented new challenges for pest control and, without DDT and similarly banned agents, no fully effective treatment is now in use.[citation needed] The industry is only beginning to develop procedures and techniques.

Another reason for their increase is that pest control services more often nowadays use low toxicity gel-based pesticides for control of cockroaches, the most common pest in structures, instead of residual sprays. When residual sprays meant to kill other insects were commonly being used, they resulted in a collateral insecticidal effect on potential bedbug infestations; the gel-based insecticides primarily used nowadays do not have any effect on bedbugs, as they are incapable of feeding on these baits.

The National Pest Management Association, a US advocacy group for pest management professionals(PMPs) conducted a "proactive bed bug public relations campaign" in 2005 and 2006, resulting in increased media coverage of bedbug stories and an increase in business for PCOs, possibly distorting the scale of the increase in bedbug infestations.

If it is necessary to live with bedbugs in the short term, it is possible to create makeshift temporary barriers around a bed. Although bedbugs cannot fly or jump, they have been observed climbing a higher surface in order to then fall to a lower one, such as climbing a wall in order to fall onto a bed. That having been said, barrier strategies nevertheless often have beneficial effects: an elevated bed, for example, can be protected by applying double-sided sticky tape (carpet tape) around each leg, or by keeping each leg on a plastic furniture block in a tray of water. Bed frames can be effectively rid of adult bedbugs and eggs by use of steam or, used with caution, by spraying rubbing alcohol on any visible bugs (although this is not a permanent treatment). Small steam cleaners are available and are very effective for this local treatment. A suspect mattress can be protected by wrapping it in a painter's disposable plastic drop cloth, neatly sealing shut all the seams with packing tape, and putting it on a protected bed after a final visual inspection. Bedding can be sanitized by a 120 °F (49 °C) laundry dryer. Once sanitized, bedding should not be allowed to drape to the floor. An effective way to quarantine a protected bed is to store sanitized sleeping clothes in the bed during the day, and bathing before entering the bed.

Alternative treatments that may actually work better and be more comfortable than wrapping bedding in plastic that would cause sweating would be to encase your mattress and box springs in impermeable bed bug bite proof encasements after a treatment for an infestation. There are many products on the market but only some products have been laboratory tested to be bed bug bite proof. Make sure to check to see that the product you are considering is more than an allergy encasement, but is bed bug bite proof.

Another new treatment that is extremely effective on bed bugs and on even insecticide resistant bed bugs is the new Cryonite treatment. This treatment actually freezes the liquid in the cells of bed bugs and has an effective kill rate even on the hard to kill eggs. Cryonite has been widely used in Europe and Australia and some pest control companies are just now starting to offer this highly effective service that is non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and will not saturate your bedding with chemicals.

Vermin and pets may complicate a barrier strategy. Bedbugs prefer human hosts, but will resort to other warm-blooded hosts if humans are not available, and some species can live up to eighteen months without feeding at all. A co-infestation of mice can provide an auxiliary food source to keep bedbugs established for longer. Likewise, a house cat or human guest might easily defeat a barrier by sitting on a protected bed. Such considerations should be part of any barrier strategy

There are few noble acts performed by man, the dominant one that continually overwhelms me with respect is the self-sacrifice of women for children or family. Other than that, it is hard to find clear examples of a person taking responsibility for their actions.

To quit a job that pays well, because you do not want to be associate with a fraud, a joke, to be part and party to an embarrassing company. This to me is falling on your sword, saying, I will hurt myself, to say, I will not be like you. To admit, I do not know how to do something, it is better to allow a younger, smarter, quicker person to do this job. To quit to allow the better equipped to grow and expand, to step aside can in my mind be falling on the sword.

There are times the only way to make a vote, to say, to announce what we stand for in life, it to say, I quit. I will not be you, I will be me, I will suffer the slings and arrows. It is amazing how easily peoples opinions are purchased.

William Shakespeare - To be, or not to be (from Hamlet 3/1)

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action. - Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd

10 Ways to Pay for the Girl

10 Ways to Pay for the Girl
The worst curse in life is to make more money than your friends, family or business associates.

Bangkok Thailand - Southeast Asia

----------------------------------

Your first impression of this is wrong, but just by a flip of the coin.

I have many friends on this planet, and often, no the majority of time, I make about 10-30 times more money per day than my friends. I remember in the USA, I was making about four times more than one of my best friend.

I do not want my friends to feel poor, and I do not want them to think I am rich, I want them to be my friend, rich or poor. I needed a way to keep these differences left unsaid.

Envy, greedy, and ugly souls need avoided, however there are many friends who just do not have the same amount of money. I have this Thailand girl who is one of my best friends, I work maybe two hours per day and the girl works about 10-12 hours per day. Amazing a person with that much education can earn so much less than me, but is the real world, not the USA.

The first year or two I knew this girl she refused to allow me to pay anything, it was annoying, she speaks Thai, she was paying for my meals, often maneuvered me into situations. She for sure paid more than me, she said,
- I will never allow you to think you paid for me. -

The more I know Thailand the more I respect her for this.

Ok, relax, times goes on, she finally understands that I do not use money as a way to buy friendship, and for me money is not important. How can money be important, hot water and coffee in the morning are my luxuries of life, sometimes cashews or ice cream.

I have worked out some we-never-talk-about ways over time to load her up with extra money, so she does not go broke trying to be my friend. It is amazing how often it cost a person a whole days wages to take a taxi from A to Z.

10 Ways to Pay for the Girl
These all work on the premise that I give a 10 when I have 1 dollar in my pocket. These are mix and match collection of ideas, I have used these idea with many friends over my ten years of travel.

1. Taxi money

2. Gifts, something she can sell

3. Big money and small money. Always pay with big money, so the change is lost in the shuffle. I also always have small change, so she can grab for a bus, or something small.

4. Have her buy something to bring back later, not now, and she keeps the change.

5. Give something she can sell, leftover this and that, when I move out of a room, I can give her miscellaneous.

6. When she drags to her brothers shop, some of her friends shop, or store, or some place you really do not want to go, go and buy anyway, it is possible she gets a commission or somehow benefits.

7. Pre-paid cell phone cards

8. Buy too much and give her extras, maybe get too much shampoo, or too many of something and give the extras to her.

9. Go on the trip, go visit a place she need to go, go see visit the University and pay for the room. There are trips in life that are not needed, but sometimes it allows the person to go do what they cannot afford to do.

10. Food, just buy dinner, food, anyway of feeding the person.

Now, this sounds bad, it is not, then again, after years of walking the planet, when some girl walks up to me and wants one of these 10 ways to pay, your first assumption is correct.

There is probably some code of ethics, some rules of civility, some long hidden away method of having good form that I do not know.

This is Rodney Liwanag working on backpacks at his home ran, one-man business in Quezon, City. The chair where I sat to discuss backpacks, computer set up on table.

This is a more open or broad picture of his set of sewing machines.

I have concerns and trepidations when I write about a person, hotel, or any way good or bad explaining about a business or person. I have not purchased or finished a backpack from Rodney yet, as of now, I spent about 10 days talking and paying him to discuss my Chasing Windmills Backpack.

I have got my moneys worth, I am crystallizing in my mind, the exact bag, I do not even need to draw it, I know it, I can see it after many discussions of bags with Rodney. While explaining my dream bag, making long list, the vision becomes clearer.

BACKPACK FORMULA

Design
+
Sewing
+
Materials - Clips, Zippers, Clothes or Materials like Cordura

EQUALS a bag - If all are great, with no rush, walk slow, out will come a great bag.

There is knowledge of what we know, and what do not know, when I research or am designing a bag, I want to bring into my brain ideas and concepts I did not have before, I need to learn what is not possible to come out of my brain, to go where I have not been before.

Rodney I believe has the ability to take his extensive knowledge of backpacks and make a great bag.

Rodney does not have the raw materials, the Clips, Zippers, Sliders, Clothes or Materials like Cordura to make a great bag; he can make a great design. He does have average stuff around to use.

Not having great materials is a huge problem, I believe I must travel to all the countries that make specific products, for example, I may need to fly to Japan to find the YKK Slider that may work, or Korea to find the best materials. I think I need to adapt or invent some materials and commission companies to make.

The best option is that Rodney does the research, finds the materials and learns about the sources, it will teach him about what is NOT in his brain already.

I hope to bring together all the materials in one place about January 20, 2007 to make a good first sample with about 80 percent of products needed already sourced. Then proceed for 100 percent sourced materials.

The clock is ticking, the days are passing, and life goes on.

Do I recommend Rodney, Yes, I do believe if you have the materials, then he is highly capable of making a great bag. I think he listens, and implements ideas. I do not know how much he charges to make a backpack, maybe it is good, and maybe it is bad. I would say the price should always be about half or less than the price of a retail bag in the USA, and will cost about the same to ship to your country.

Time and urgency is difficult with low pay countries, the concept of speed is always a few days late, sometimes too late. There is no need to hurry or rush, however when it is too late, it is too late.

I am searching for the zipper slider, then will work my way towards the Spectra, Kevlar, or Cordura materials. Still need to make a decision as to what I need, I am learning towards Cordura, these other materials are just sales gimmicks. Making a bag that gives all the benefits that solves problems is the need.

Christmas In Thailand

It is Christmas morning here in Bangkok, Thailand.

Merry Christmas or I hope your sock is out and ready to go.

A Thailand friend inquired,
- Do I put sock out today, or on Christmas Eve? -
I said,
- Not too late, but the time was Christmas Eve. -

I asked,
- Are the stores open today on Christmas? -
She says,
- You buy me gift. -

I said,
- It is amazing to me how when there is a Holiday, any Holiday, it does not matter, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Islam, Legal, all the world uses the excuse to go on holiday and close all the stores or stop doing business. -

Islamic people do not work often on Friday and Sunday, using both days as days off.

Whatever the case, I think, and recommend, every person on the planet use every excuse possible to not work. When they work, I want them to work hard, be effective and get it done. However, some countries like the USA need to Walk Slow as Wade says, and not try to be too busy.

There is no glory in work, the best world is a world with enough money to buy a few toys, enjoy life and give time. The best gift a you can give me is some time.

I will never forget Joe Joe in the mud trenches of a concrete site, and I asked,
- How can you afford to have 12 children? -

He said,
- It does not require money, it requires time.

Time is the gift to give, spend some time listening. I talk or write about my Mother and Father, sisters, brother, and other friends. I want to always try my best to give them time, allot what is needed and more, and let them know I vote for them. I will not say to them, I am too busy, and translate to them, in their eyes, you are not important.

I do not want them to die, and say to myself, I did not give them enough time.

Any excuse to not work is good, but the best one is I need to go talk with my friends and family.

Merry Christmas, it must be 85 degrees here, hehehe Sunny and nice,

This is the best place to find cheap books near Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand. It is inside the Wat and to the very back of the Wat, or Buddhist Temple. I suppose if you walked out the Police Station, entered the Wat and followed the maze you would finally find these books.

Used books on Khao San Road or around Khao San Road are Idiot Tourist Expensive. Now they have even made the tourist fall for more Thai tricks, to prove just how stupid the tourist are, and travelers.

I have looked, I keep trying, I want to take a photograph of this, however, before I forget, I need to blurt this out. The Thailand book vendors are sanding off the edges off the tops, bottom and side of books. A book looks old when the cover had wrinkles, or the paper on the ends is discolored, then in worst case, when the binding is bad, the pages fall out. The solution in Thailand is they sand off the discolored paper, and then wrap the book in plastic. Not allowing you to open the book, or see if the pages are intact, or the condition of the book, maybe the last chapter is missing out of the book, or the prior reader underlined the whole book with yellow marker.

I now do not buy books in plastic, I know the price is too high; they want to gouge me and sell me a pig in a poke.

This is an example of used books in plastic, sort of like buying a used car and not taking it for a test drive. I would at least unwrap it before I paid for it, and inspect it.

For the too lazy and too rich, not on a budget bunch, do not mind me calling them or inferring they are stupid, then here is a two great places to buy,
- Idiot Tourist Expensive Used Book and New. -
I go to these bookstores often...

Go to Khao San Road, go to the end with the Burger King and look to your left. When I really need a book, or I want to buy a guidebook for West Africa or Ethiopia or anywhere the normal Tourist Backpacker does not go, you know about 80 percent of the planet, I go to this new bookstore and it is well stocked. The used bookstore to the right has a good supply also of used books, however expensive.

I trade or throw away books; I do not have the luxury of keeping a book.

Paul Theroux is maybe not a travel writer, I think there is a huge difference between a Travel Writer and a person that writes Travelogues.

I would say he writes travelogues, and I do not wish to insult him by calling him a travel writer. I do think he know the shadow a little too well, and should not be allow to play with sharp objects or left alone too much.

I was introduced to the word Misanthropist as I was reading a book review about this man on the internet, and the word stuck, I cannot remember how to spell and continually need to look it up in the dictionary, however I do not think I am a misanthropist.

The person called Paul Theroux a misanthropist in the book review. Maybe best to say he is grumpy, I can be very grumpy, but I also will open the door.

Misanthropist like to travel, they want complete control over who enters their world. I enjoy this aspect of travel, it is a very simple process to remove a person from my life forever. I also know it is very easy for people to remove me from their life forever.

I think misanthropist avoid people, they love caller ID on the telephone, do not answer the door, hate spam, etc, sort of control freaks. The get very angry at wrong number telephone calls or at spam, hard to work up anger for a spammer, like throwing rocks at the wind.

I think an open door policy in life is great, open the door, then I needed to learn how to enforce a three strikes and your out policy, and do not look back. I remember a time, in my fit of no-sharp-objects close, or do not go to the fourth floor because you like to look out the window time. Well, I remember that happiness is earned not by avoiding people, however by stopping the misery, or closing the door on the sadness. I must open the door to be happy, however somehow push out the bad. I do not say to myself, this will not happen again, I say this person, this specific person will not happen again, hard to generalize and politically correct speech is for idiots, I think they call this segregation in the mental hospital.

Being happy is easy, when you learn to say no, but not avoid, keep the door open.

Sometimes people close the door to all things, they put on filters, have everything going to the bulk box and never thought, I also filtered out my friends and my happiness. I can almost tell you, almost guarantee, if I hear one of my friends say to me, I am too busy, they are on the short list of friends to get rid of, what is the point. They cry wolf so many times there is no reason to make contact, it annoying to continue.

Paul Theroux gives to the world with no good reasons, take him or leave him, he is honest, frank, and depressing at times. I for sure would not want to read his books every day.

I think his writing bridges on depression and suicide, however I trust what he writes is true, therefore I continue to read. I trust James Michener, I do not feel like he is trying to mislead me, I so often ask people, do you trust this person. The do a pause, I say ok, why go on, when I hear the pause, I know the answer.

So, I would say Paul Theroux seems to open doors, not close them, a misanthropist does not open doors, they close them. I think Paul opens doors, and walk through doors, or allow me to enter, I continue to believe an un-locked door is best. A locked door keeps the nature in or out, and sometimes the nature needs to be shoved out so the good nature can enter.

Misanthropy is a general dislike, distrust, or hatred of the human species, or a disposition to dislike and/or distrust other people. The term is also applicable to those who self-exile themselves or become loners because of the aforementioned feelings. … A misanthrope or misanthropist is a person who dislikes or distrusts humanity as a general rule.

Anticipation or prognostication of what will happen has kept my butt out of danger for about 10-11 years. I was reading the book Smile While You are Lying and thought, this guy has only gone to some 33 countries and I have done 77, and he got robbed more than me.

Everyone I know loses bundles more than me, gets robbed often, and get in real dangerous situations. I really need some danger to write stupid stories, the more stupid, the more people think you are adventurous, but never realize, the smart ones never were in danger.

I believe they listened to the trendy peoples advice, what the majority does could get you in a resort, or beheaded an Indonesia resort.

Trendy people follow the crowd, all of us want to think we are not trendy; I am very trendy on some things.

I just think to understand if everyone has a tattoo that is not trendy or fashionable, if the majority is doing something.

Ooops, you screwed up.

I think want people want to do is be Trendsetters instead of Trend followers. Quick push the sheep into the gate, and close it, do not let them out.
