Why is HoboTraveler.com in Peru

To get close to less contacted tribes. (Wrongly called un-contacted tribes.)

I was in Peru last June of 2008, and at this time the Yurua river near the Peru-Brazil border was low. I was told to return in January and the river would be high enough to travel by canoe. I am wanting to get near one of the lesser contacted tribes on the planet, they are often called un-contacted tribes, however I tend to thing lesser contacted or less civilized is correct.

This is a map of Peru; I will fly to Pucallpa, Peru on Monday morning.

This is a Map I modified to show where I wanted to go in June; you can read the post by clicking here: Less Contracted Tribes

So what is up with the less contacted tribes? I want to understand the true motivations and nature of man. I want to remove the culture that we wrap ourselves in and see who we really are before there were cities on the earth where people believe they are civilized.

This is one of them places I consider on the edge of the planet. It is not easy to get to Breu, I am not sure if I can afford the money now, it truly is expensive to rent small planes to travel off the map.

  • It is the true nature of man to sit in a comfortable chair while being waited on. It is the true nature of woman to make sure this does not happen.Yin and Yang.Bob L

  • This person Gerhard is really trying to be famous so I allowed the off topic video. I truly do not care if people give themselves a plug providing they contribute something of value. Truly not of value Gerhard, but you are truly working or your company is working to be famous.

  • This person Gerhard is not a real person:"Gerhard Reinke's Wanderlust was a show on Comedy Central that featured writer-comedian Josh Gardner as a German backpacker hosting a fictional television show in which he explored various cultural areas on a traveler's budget."Ref. • I have ten years of travel and I do not know of this person. Give me another 10 years and my knowledge of television will be nil.

  • Andy,Route idea for getting to Breu. From where you are in Lima, you could take the so-called low cost GOL airline to São Paulo (Guarulhos) to Manaus (Eduardo Gomes), then by boat upriver on the Amazon to the Jurua tributary. This waterway goes south all the way to the Breu area you show on your map.Alternatively Tam flies the same Lima - São Paulo - Manaus route. Also you could get to Manaus via Panama City on Copa, via Quito on Tame, and via Miami on Tam. Wikipedia claims Spirit airlines is going to start flying Fort Lauderdale to Manaus routes pending government approval. It's the looong way. The river portion would be over 1000 miles and whether it's practical or not I've no clue. Don't know either if it's a cheaper route, just exploring a radical possibility.Manaus is 2.5 million population and an eco-tourism center for launching expeditions. Could be good to stage the river trip from there. Amazon TributariesEric

  • All of these paths are possible for X amount of money. I have been to Manaus, a nice city, one of the best fish market I have every seen. My plan is to nose around, again talk to many people and see if I can find an simpler way to fly to this area. There is a reason why these tribes are less contacted, they are isolated.
