An intuitive and intelligent read or the HoboTraveler.com Travel Journal wrote a great comment:
I sometimes go to "resort" type places to SCUBA when time is tight and money is not. I have run into situations where the "bellhop" insists on carrying my bag and gets mad when I do not let him. I am told that it is his job to carry my bag, he works for tips. If I let him take my bag, I am supposed to tip him. If I do not let him take my bag, I am somehow "cheating" him. F* that. - No Tipping in Developing World
The Prime Directive of the Travel Industry is…
“To convinced you to pay incredible amounts of money and enjoyed it.”
They accomplish this by shaming you, only a cheap person would say it was expensive.
“Never complain, or you are not a First Class Traveler.”
If you have traveled the planet, then you know how class systems destroys countries. Why do people insist on maintaining class systems?
Satisfaction in life is achieved when we feel we give and receive fairly. Yes, some people enjoy taking advantage of others, however very few people feel satisfied an content when they know they did not get a good value. A vacation to remember is when there is no regrets. This idea of get over yourselves is exactly the teaching of the travel industry, pay a lot, and not ever take it serious. The USA or world economy is crippled because of this splurge mentality.
