I will write a Travel Tips with the solution
----------------------------------

You would see this statue as you entered Pucallpa on the road from the Airport to your Hotel. There is a bundle of Bananas or Platanos on the back of the man, this statue truly does represent the city of Pucallpa.

Down at the docks of Pucallpa, Peru on the Ucayali River you can see men continuously carrying bundles of Bananas and Platonos from the boats onto the land.

My feeling is most travels and tourist wish to ignore or avoid getting up close and personal to these workers. There is real beauty in watching these men and women work hard, it is working and living by doing work that is needed. I am able to respect for these workers easier than for example than a lawyer or accountant.

If you read about Pucallpa, Peru, may Bloggers will focus on the dirt and dust aspect of the city, failing to understand why a person should visit the Amazon River. This is real life, simple; authentic it is not pretentious, what you see is what you get.

People travel to find their fantasy worlds, however to enjoy traveling you must enjoy the real world, full of noise, dust and grime, making it your friend, up close and personal, or just stay in Europe...

  • Not only bananas, maybe the top ones are bananas, but it looks like mostly plantains, check this article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlantainPlantains, I guess you saw lot of it in west africa, as dodo, fufu, chips etc.

  • Thanks, a good point, I believe I spelled the Spanish word for Plantains wrong. It is Platanos, I am having trouble thinking in both language and for sure my Spanish spelling is bad.
