No Tipping in Developing World Countries

No Tipping in Developing World Countries
I have well intended Americans send me pages on how to Tip, every once in awhile I find pages on how to Tip. I always think to myself,
“Why do I need this? People do not Tip, why would I?”

80 percent of the world is normal, and 20 percent is overdeveloped.

The USA is not normal, it is overdeveloped.

The majority of people on the planet earn less than 15 US. Dollars per day, and they do not Tip.

Tipping is an USA thing, maybe a little European, but it is not normal for normal people to Tip.

Tipping is promoted, encouraged, and propagated as normal by the Tourist Industry, they are convincing you to do something that is not natural.

Tipping is not natural, it is abnormal.

Good on you for bringing this up. The expectation for a tip is a practice that has blown up out of control. A traveler is just another person in a place and should not be held to special rules. I do not expect special treatment in other countries because I am a foreigner, so I do not expect to give special payments.

Each country and cultures have rules of behavior. Most places in the world do not tip.

Thank you for posting this,

I sometimes go to "resort" type places to SCUBA when time is tight and money is not. I have run into situations where the "bellhop" insists on carrying my bag and gets mad when I do not let him. I am told that it is his job to carry my bag, he works for tips. If I let him take my bag, I am supposed to tip him. If I do not let him take my bag, I am somehow "cheating" him. F* that.

There is an expectation you pay and never complain, truly not what I call excellent service.

I have gotten what I consider excellent service many times. In places that seldom see tourists this excellent service can be free. In places that are used to tourists, it comes at a price, either in tips or high prices, usually both.
