It is Not a Purse Photos I was doing research on my Travel Bag project; I am trying to categorize all the type of Travel Bags and learn all the names. There is a travel bag called a "Messenger Bag." While reading and collecting links to these bags one person wrote, “It’s not a purse.”
I fell over laughing at the honesty… and his ability for introspection, a rare trait in the modern world.

“It’s not a purse.”
Maybe you call this a “Man Purse.”
The body on the right is a Man, just wanted you to know, I took this photo in Panajachel, Guatemala on Santander Street located on Lago Atitlan.
A photo of a typical or traditional Mayan man dressed in formal clothes, I hear this dress is expensive and one of the reasons few Mayan men wear them.
I would surmise this man is Macho in the Guatemalan culture, and I suspect he considers the local men walking around in Western Clothing as being effeminate.
Does the western man above know he is dressed in an androgynous or effeminate manner, or is he obvious? Does the Mayan man know he is wearing a dress?
Personally, I prefer the term "man satchel" but that might just be me. I do carry a small one and it is basically a purse regardless of what anyone says.

Myself, I think anyone not wearing western boots and a stetson looks a little androgynous. So you and 99% of traveler/tourists are essentially in drag by my standard.
