A Smile Opens Doors Photography Travel Tip
How does one get the best photos? How did I get permission to take the photo below? I never ask, I smile and it opens the door.

A nod of the head, a wink, a smile, all are polite ways to ask permission for a great photo.

I never ask permission with words, the best way to hear the word no in many languages. If you make the picture a big deal, then so will the locals.

Dindi Girl in Benin West Africa

I took this photo in Benin, West Africa, this girl was walking down the path and the pure beauty of the girl overwhelmed me. She did not speak French, so I was truly without words. I smiled and she smiled, I took a few pictures of this warm smile.

I am not sure if I can teach people to smile, I am not sure we can insert passion into a Photographer. However, sometimes we need a reminder to smile.

  • why do the Africans always have a glassy eyes look ? My taxi driver told me everyone over 12 chews something called Kat and he said that is a side affect ? I guess like Bolivians chew coca or Beetle nut. Just an observation.
