Those are not stars, but Venus and Jupiter. It is an unusual conjunction of the two planets and our moon. That occurred on November 30.In fact it was featured in todays Astropix. Called "Happy Sky over Los Angeles"http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html
