Closer to Perfect Hotel Curtains

Closer to Perfect Hotel Curtains
Air Conditioning is the easy solution for Architects that do not wish to think, work, design, or be creative.

I found some closer to perfect curtains in a non-air-conditioned room, I am sure this was laziness, but serendipity at work.

The made the curtains too long and I am happy, life is good when serendipity gives random chance it reins.

Cross through ventilation, hot air rises, window transoms, a window that allows you to lower the top, and raise the bottom, these are still needed, but Architects seem to have lost the path.

A curtain stops the sun from blaring through the window, and stops me from admiring the neighbor’s wife; unfortunately, it also stops air from entering and leaving the room.

This curtain is quite brilliant by accident, it hang out from the window because there is a shelf, actually I had to pull it of the shelf to make it do this, but that is ok. It allows the air to flow behind the curtain and into the room, yet covers the window. A very simple, cheap curtain no cut in the middle, just a long piece of easy to make curtain.

I have tried many ways to make the curtain hang away from the window and allow the air to enter or leave. I more than often put a fan in the window blowing out, and not in, so the air in the room circulates allowing me to breath.

I was so annoyed in Togo and Ghana, West Africa I was carrying a fan to counter-design the room. I placed this small fan in the window and allowed to run 24/7 to keep the hot warm air and water condensation off the concrete walls of my room.

Here is the fan that should be in every decently designed hotel room in the tropics, sadly they only put these in room with mildew and moss growing on the walls. This room was in Ban Saen Thailand the price respected the quality of the room.

This is the fan above the door, two hundred years ago, they would have architects and homebuilders would have designed this correctly, they would have a window here to allow the hot air to leave.

Well, one of these days I will figure out a way to keep the curtains from stopping the air from entering the room. I truly hope the architects of the world revert to prior times so I can live in rooms that are designed properly. Air Conditioned rooms are not as comfortable as a breath of fresh air.

This page has a small photo of a Transom Window from the 1920’s; I truly think architecture is taking some giant steps backwards.
