Am I Physically Prepared
Travel in the Jungle, hopping on and off buses, a boat or two, travel is sometimes a lot of exercise. I was walking towards the boat docks of Pucallpa, Peru thinking about walking, wondering if my body is going to start to obey better.

My body is getting older, it is Chronologically 52 years old, yet I know I can easily stay up with most 30 year old men. However, there are some parts that have been hurting more than normal, I think if I lose about 20 pounds my body will start to obey again, and not painfully complain. I am losing weight, however it is amazing how easy it is to gain weight and how slowly these pound leave.

Any way I do it, I need think about this, get a little more serious and keep my health in better condition. I ask a lot more of my body than the normal person, I am not in the same world. To carry my 50-80 pound backpacks around, then 20 extra on my body is like carrying a small girl on my back.

  • Yes, losing weight is a great idea for most of us.And it is amazing how easy it is to gain weight. But when you think about it, it is not so amazing. For my weight and height, I am supposed to require 2,563 calories if I stay sedentary. To lose 2 pounds per week without exercising, I would have to cut 1,000 calories a day. That would mean I would then be eating about 1,600 calories. As my weight went down, I would require less so I would have to eat less. Tough to do for most of us. BUT, to gain 2 pounds per week, all I would have to do is eat a couple of candy bars a day. Many candy bars are around 500 calories. Yeah, they are supposed to be two servings, but who gives away half thier candy?Add a couple of beers and we are at gaining 3 pounds per week. A couple of sodas we get 4. An 8 ounce glass of orange juice has 112 cal. Better than soda, but a whole orange would be better. So, it is simple to lose weight. Eat less, exercise more. But it is not easy. But it is both simple AND easy to gain. And the process is more fun too.Bob L

  • Do you forget that Coca Leaves have been used by the south american indians since long before they were "discovered". Cocaine is a new drug, but coca is used all over. Chewed, with Lime I believe to cut the acidity? I forget, but am sure Wiki has plenty on it.Bob L
