Planned Abuse for Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack
By accident, I am now planning some abuse of two Kelty Redwing 3100 Backpacks. I am going rob one bag from Chris, and send him home with a Junk bag from Thailand. Then Mark and Taia are suppose to bring down my second victim, one for front, second for back.
I purchased two wheeled backpack in Thailand and now know everything bad about wheeled bags, however they will soon fall apart.
I still have a the Windmill Bag living in my mind.

I told Mark and Taia,
“Bring me a bag, you cannot go wrong, I will take to a shoe repair shop and modify it.”
I looked at Chris, the bag is ready to be robbed, this bag looks nice, the harness is great, however the pocket, zipper, and pull system is miles way from the finish line. Too easy to rob, a great weekender bag, will take some work to make it pro.
I wish the idea of security would just once float into the mind of manufactures of backpacks. The zippers systems has some serious problems, I am not clean on how to upgrade zippers. My Thailand 10 dollar bag has better zipper pulls.
My present plans for making backpacks is to order all the materials from USA vendors, pick up the materials and go to Canada and make the backpack myself, doing all the sowing myself.
Chris showed me some neat pockets, saying these were good, my comment was,
"If they was that good, they would be stuffed full of items, not empty."
Do not fall in love with a pack, modify it to fit your needs, it is tool, not you wife.

Been using the slightly larger Redwing 3600 for a year now -- still loving it. I would suggest the bigger size.

My friend Chris is brought a Kelty with him, I need the quality of the cloth material so I can use to alter to an acceptable level of security.
I want balance of two equally sized bags for carrying. The bag is a cheap bag, that is what I want. I will probably cut off the front pouches, the interior pouches and have to replace the sliders.
To me the bag is nothing special, just another bag I must alter to make secure. A good bag would not require so much security alterations. My Thailand bag is more secure, however the cloth material is junk.
Just exactly what security alterations are you thinking of? How secure can you make it, anyway? It's just a fabric bag that could easily be torn through by anyone really bent on stealing your precious treasures.
I will stop temptation theft. Everything on this bag is easy for anyone, of course the people who are serious can steal.
This bag has 4 zippers, and none are safe.
