Who is Krung Thep
Who is Krung Thep
I get nervous when I do not know the name of someone; I feel shame, a fear of being found out. I sometime say,
- I am very sorry, I cannot remember your name.-
The person says, my name is
- Krung Thep -
I then proceed to repeat the name in my head about 20-30 times, this is rote memory in action, and when I really want to remember I will write the name down.

I was reminiscing of being in Ranong, Thailand about three years ago, I kept asking Thai peopla on how to travel to Bangkok. It was a very enlightening day, a cultural epiphany.

Nicholas.
Krung Thep is the original name of Bangkok. An inside joke here?
Krung Thep is the original name of Bangkok - is this an inside joke?
As I understand, the name of Bangkok is not Bangkok, the name is Krung Thep... More at bottom...
Inside joke? My intention was 80 percent some writers style that is designed to spur on the curiousity of the curious to learn.
I am not sure, how did Jesus talk in Parable? There is two ways to understand this, at a simple level and at a more complicated level. The clear hint is when I changed the name of Bangkok as is normal to the name Krung Thep.
I am trying to learn to write, while I also try to learn the difference between the name Bangkok and Krung Thep.
I would say in the Thailand culture there is less than a 3 percent interface of minds, there is only about a 3 perccent meeting of the mind of a Thailand person and other non-Asian types.
This means, they can go do autonomously what they do, and we can do autonomously what I do. What they do does not influence more than 3 percent what I do, and I do not influence more than 3 percent what they do.
My cultural epiphany was this, a majority of the Ranong people did not seem to know the word Bangkok. A person finally said,
-Oh, you mean Krung Thep. -
I was incredulous, what is Krung Thep? I supposed they wrote Bangkok in Thai and it sounded the same. This the cultural epiphany, how two cultures can run concurrently inside a culture and not really know what the other is doing or thinking.
Scary really! Implies an abilty to deceive to the Nth degree. I think this happenned in Vietnam, I also believe France does it to America continually.
The people of Ranong use Krung Thep as the primary name for Bangkok, as well as they use Burma as the primary word for Myamar.
Effectively the name of Bangkok is Krung Thep and Bangkok is something else.
I have had a Thailand girlfriend for three years. I learn astounding things as she slowly trust me. Thailand people do not say things that make their country look bad. You can see it, but they do not talk about it.
I think if you go to some very good sources, you will see that the standardized name used on a more global basis may be Krung Thep.
What happened to me, I was on my sitemeter.com checking my stats. I went to Who is on, and this link showed me on in.
Bangkok Krung Thep

I do a lot of DB work, I see the global perspective more than normal, plus lets face it, I live more in Thailand than in the USA thanks to the Internel Revenue rule of allowing only 30 days in the USA or I need to pay more.
Hmmm
I finally read this..
- I have read your blog fo a year without comment-
This is why I do as Chris says the inside joke, I think if I wrap up things in a package, not too clever, or obscure, I can elevate he conversations.
Budget... hehehe Off Topic for this post, and a million dollar question. I think if you read my FAQS... hmm .com/faqs
you would have some. I think there is a link to the right of the online blog.
I think I could write two 225 Trade size books on travel budget.
