Bogota Shared Apartment

Bogota Shared Apartment
Sunday January 15, 2006, 6:32 AM

I am in a Bogata shared apartment, not that simple; however, more or less it is an apartment being shared by 7-10 people. The Platypus Bogotá Hostel has a couple of houses just up or down the street that German the owner used for the travelers that never leave. When a person sticks longer than normal, of for me, I wanted a single room and could not be bothered with the dorm, he told me about the apartment. It has a kitchen, shared toilet, and best of all a TV with Cable, not like the Platypus Proper that does not have a good TV area.

Now Bogotá is cold, it is too high above Sea Level at 2500 meters and this is annoying to me, I am a beach boy, not a mountain boy, I need my hot. Well, you get up in the morning walk to the cold restroom; sit on a seat where these boys are in terminal I-am-a-boy-I-do-not-put-the-seat-down mode. It reminds me of Mexico where there is never a seat, the Danish Hostel in Oaxaca used to advertise,
- We have toilet seats -

The cost is about 1500 Pesos or about 75 cents U.S. per day, cannot beat the price, however it is for the monthly visitor and not for casual persons. My room is too big, I need a heater and it would be too much space to heat, it has 12-foot ceilings, concrete walls, a huge queen size bed, it would take hours to heat up the furniture until the room is warm.

Of course, it has the traditional light in the middle of the ceiling as all concrete rooms and most of the world has the one light room. The world is not like the USA or Europe, concrete is standard and one light is normal.

Trinidad is calling me and Monday I will go the STA travel office, buy an air ticket to Port of Spain, Trinidad and leave this cold place. ASAP

I have very little desire to hang around in Bogotá, the country of Colombia is actually too modern for my blood, I like a more primitive way of travel. Outside of Bogotá, it is more this way, however I was here about six years ago and explored. I have a need for new, a place I have not seen, a place with new looks on people’s places.

I am hard pressed to say what I want to do, how can I ever talk about the facts of life without some idiot getting angry. I want to go to the Caribbean to see the black culture or the ex-slave cultures. I think the history of this area will be wonderful, these Caribbean Island were settle by the Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, and English in a typical way, we come as Pirates, we will take all and you will give or we will kill you.

I read James Micheners book - Caribbean - and have been longing for the place ever since, however I am sure most of the -save the world - idiots will focus on he problem with slavery and not on the fact that life is life, all is not good, some very good and some very bad, however that was history and we all hope today is better. I am hoping Bob Marley wanna bees are not so prevalent I want to put a bounty on their head. Nothing more cliché and common than the Bob Marley or Che Guerrera copying person traveling the planet. They are everywhere and so boring in their dress and thinking I will avoid them at all cost. The think they are being novel and they are clueless, they are the norm and nothing new or unique about them, they are just a group of lemming jumping into a sea of mediocrity.

Oh well, I am sure there will be some nice black beauties on the island to admire, I am hoping they like to sunbath the same as the Brazil girls. It is sad when the locals refuse to go into the sun like in Asia or many parts of South America. This is one reason why Brazil is excellent for the beach; the local Brazilians enjoy the beach with the tourist and travelers. It is very boring to share a beach with Euro-Trash or Ameri-Trash; they will probably wall down with their Che Guerra shirts on and put on a Bob Marley CD, take off their tops and pretend to be unique on the surface of the planet.

What a haven of culture, where on the earth could you find the Dutch, Spanish, French, English and Portuguese cultures just an island away. I am hoping they are as predictable with the islands as they are with the other ex-colonies on the planet.

Dutch people go to ex-Dutch or Netherlands colonies.
French go to ex-French colonies
English to English
German to German - The do not have many.
Portuguese to Portuguese

Put them all in Bikinis, tell them to send their boys home and life is great.

All in all, they go where they were before, it is like there is this history lag, and even though the tourist are not aware, it is predetermined they will go to a place where their great great great grandfather came to Rape and Pillage.

Look at India, full of Brits.
