Sleeping in the Frankfurt Airport

I am still at the Wikipedia.org conference, however I am now planning my escape from the Peter Pan World or Never Never Land where the boys never grow up and only play with bigger toys. Same - Same as me...

OK, I am annoyed, I think the essence of a good traveler may very well be the ability to make long list of possible problems, a.k.a. (Also Known As)
Complaints!

Ok, I am now presently trying to learn or planning my travel to the Frankfurt Airport and need to arrive there at about 5:00 AM on the morning of the 8th, so I can fly to Israel.

Therefore I need to leave the Hostel at around 4:00 AM.

This is not going to be easy, I am in German land, too clever and too few answers, the place where you better know the answer to your question before you ask.

OK, so what to do, I know my answer, I just wish there was another. I just did a search trying to find out when the train runs, my complaint is,
"Why does the site not make it obvious when the trains run?"
"Why doesn't the Hostel have information about how to get to the Airport on the wall?
"Why not have a big transportation wall in the Hostel?"

My solution is this, I will go to the Airport tomorrow night around 7:00 PM with all of my bags and sleep in the airport. This sounds rough, however if you could hear the guy above me in total geek methodology snoring, grunting, and making all sorts of disgusting noises you would understand. (Same as Amsterdam)

The Airport is a better place to sleep than most Hostels.

I will sleep, set my alarm, and be ready to leave, short one shower, if I remember right, (I have slept in the Frankfurt Airport before.) there is free not-so-good, however free internet access computer area in the common area before the no-mans-land area of the Airport.

Sometimes the internet is like a lollipop to me, I need a fix or pacifier now and then.

I am anxious to go to Israel, I am not sure why, however probably has something to do with my raging hormones when I am within 50 meters (Yards for USA people) of an Israeli girl.

HoboWiki.com and WikiHobo.com

OK, I give up, trying to figure out this Wiki thing I realized the Hobo needs a Wiki, if nothing else to learn how a Wiki works. I have purchased the domain names.

Also go HoboWiki.org and WikiHobo.org

All a bunch of 404 or page not found presently and hopefully in the spirit of Wiki I can find some people to create us a Wiki for fun and learning.

Jimmy Wales

This is Jimmy Wales one of the founders of Wikipedia.org
http://www.wikipedia.org

I will try my best in the next newsletter to write a one-two paragraph explanation of what Wikipedia.org is or is not, and what the implications for the future. This is rated site number 58 in the Alexa.com rating, and HoboTravler.com is 35,000, so a big difference, a major player on the internet.

This is a German Language washer and dryer.

The great thing is the Washer cost 1.50 Euro and the Dryer is 1 Euro, this maybe 3:00 Dollars U.S. to wash my clothes. Contrary to most people I am concentrating on making sure my clothes are washed, I am on my third and last load of clothes. I am good to go, and the world is a less smelly place.

Nothing make me more aware of my humanity than washing my clothes, and when I really want to know I am human, weak, and fragile, I do wash my clothes by hand in the sink. All the illustrious thoughts on the planet come down to I wake, I shower, I drink Coffee, Eat, Wash and muck about the planet, and somedays I make sense.

Spamming the Hobo Blog

I have this person or something, maybe a program spamming or posting all the time in the comments section of one page on my blogs. Very annoying, I need to learn or figure out how to BAN him or her.

I am not sure if Blogger.com has this option to ban, however it is quickly becoming a need, I have to go and delete and this is not easy for me.

Israel to Niger

I have this burr up my rear about the idea of going to Niger and seeing what is going on with the Famine.

I am not sure how to get a Visa, or what an American Citizen has to do to get a Visa, I am thinking a lot about this idea. I sent an email to some Visa Application company in Washington DC today in the hope of finding a company to help me, as best I can think about this, the best place to apply for Visas would be in Washington DC or maybe New York, so I am looking for a company in Washington.

Hard to dice and slice this issue as I have trouble making telephone calls and the time difference does not help.

FUNNY is that about one email per day comes with a person wanting me to help them get a Visa from some African country to somewhere, not that I can help them in anyway.

If Israel has an Embassy to Niger I will be in luck, however I sort of doubt it as there is this Islamic / Hebrew or Jewish problem going on, and most of Africa is Islamic... and Frenchie... hehehe

Frankfurt Germany

I am here in Frankfurt and learning nothing about Frankfurt, because I am at the Wikipedia.org convention with many techies that are from another planet, however extremely intelligent Aliens however not to socially adaptive.

I learned a little about Copyrights and Bots or Robots for the site yesterday, interesting however not for normal prime time viewing.

There is a guy here that passed out at the table two day ago, and he keep belching as he works on the computer, I am tempted to put his photo on the internet as I took a photo of him passed out, if he belches a few times more I will need revenge for bad manners.

The conference is interesting, however there is only Samuel here from the Harvard group of Bloggers and he is busy doing something....

All the people here are "Wikis," or something like that, they are all either speakers or avid posters or editors of the Wikipedia.org site.

AMAZED
I have an interactive site, most or about 90 percent of the links on Hobotraveler.com a person can post a comment below, however normally they just put in links and comments. However it is an adapted forum idea. However I am amazed at the ability of Wiki to allow anyone to edit the post. I am thinking of using this format on the tail end or the very last page of my Hobohideout.com site.

I am putting up massive amounts of Hotels or Rooms for Hoboes and Rich people on the HoboHideOut.com site. It is still a mess, however me and Andrew boy genius from India are making progress. However the Wiki concept of edits would be good on the last page of Hobohideout.com.

This page is a specific page where a Hotel could post pictures of their Hotel, explain, and then people could review and rate ANY hotel, not just the cheapies. I am wanting to make it so people can sort by price, area, state, etc. So they can set their preferences, then go for that type of dwelling. My preference is for the Hostel or Hotel with a Guest Kitchen.

HOWEVER the big problem is brainwaves, I need more brainwaves working on this, and do not have the money to pay made in the USA brains, I will go to India in September in the Pune area south of Mumbai and search for brains, at an economical price.

My Blogger spell checker says "Brainwaves" is not a word, I do not like spell checkers, that is obvious.

Fat Guy in Upper Bunk

I am at the Wikipedia.org Convention in Frankfurt, Germany

This guy came in last night, flops all his clothes in front of the lockers, jumps into bed. He is now snoring away at 9:00 AM and most of the programs will start in about 1/2 hour.

To say the least this group is way into their own minds and into the computer and are not really from the planet, maybe really they are aliens with human bodies. I have no idea why his wallet is on the floor. One of the other guys in the room decide to leave and fly back to Los Angeles, California, he did not even stay to watch one program or event.

What is Wikipedia.org

My mother is confused and I hope I an clarify what Wikipedia is?

An Encyclopedia of Information on the internet. It like taking World Book Encyclopedias or Encyclopedia Britannica and put them on the internet.

HOWEVER then you allow the readers of the online Encyclopedia to write articles and make better. They can actually edit the Encyclopedia and change the pages. This allows the site to become bigger and hopefully better as time goes on as it uses the whole world to help in the project.

Here is an explanation by Wikipedia.org
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia.org
Click on this link and search for something.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

I created a username and logged in trying to learn myself, I think I made a page of HoboTraveler.com. I am hoping the world can edit my page and tell me who I am... ? I am not sure how this works yet.

Wiki Community

Some photos of the first night of staying in the Hostel with the Wikipedia.org group, or the convention here in Frankfurt Germany.

I have discovered I a may be the only innocent bystander here so far, one of the few persons that is not involved in the Wiki projects. Everyone is talking about subject I am not familiar with and saying comments that make me realized how little I know about wikipedia.org

This a group of 24 hour a day internet people, possibly addicts.

The media or news is covering this and is my hobby, I like to take photos of media trying to not act like they are there.

I think he is important.

The courtyard where everyone sits around talking about Wiki, they all have their own nicknames and post or edit the site.

Camera Crew

Interview in process of someone important to the group I would guess.

The dinner is free the first night, then breakfast and maybe lunch for the next few days, it last four days, and then I fly to Israel on the 8th.

Wikipedia.org Convention Check-In Frankfurt Germany

I have arrived to the Wikipedia.org Convention Check-In Frankfurt Germany, took a picture of this nice girl in front of the sign, so Life is Good so far with the Wikipedia.org convention. I have discovered that everyone has a nickname and I am sort of lost as I am just an innocent bystander surrounded by the community of Wiki people. I will learn fast the jargon and words of the convention soon.

I am excited and happy to be away from the party-around-Europe crowd and now surrounded by people that like to learn too much.

This is terrible, I cannot remember her name... She is of Chinese Heritage for those of you that know Germany, she is not Thailand.

Fear of Writing

I make many page for the internet, this is easy and difficult, I am always laughing at what causes me problems, we are making a web site for the Hobo home that will be for only for Hotels and Hostels, etc.
http://www.hobohideout.com

There is needed introductions, explaining the site, about the Countries, Continents and just a general 200 word introductions. Everyone thinks they are a writer, however I find this the most difficult type of writing or type of writer that does not exist. Of course they have to understand what to write, however I gave instructions. PUT 200 words of anything in the pages and I will correct, it is not important, nobody is on the site.

I just need some content, well my techie in India sends me an email today that he will need to employ a person to do this. I guess there is a big fear of typing anything. That seems pretty easy to me.

Oh, well, I type up a small paragraph and sent. INSERT in all pages, hope it happens.

People that have blog are always working to hard, I just type, and click on publish, this is what is on my mind in this second.

How to buy a Van in Europe

How to buy a Van in Europe
I have been prodding and pushing a little with Sabine to help me buy a Van in Europe, I have learned a very good thing and that is a web site where I can buy or look at cars online. They are by country and cover most of the bigger ones, however you will need a translator to help you, then a mobile phone and a car to go look at them. The hope though now is I could come and visit Sabine, I pick out a couple of vans, we call and I go and buy one.

Insurance and License Plates
It is not clean still how I will by the plates, however AAA says to Sabine that I can buy a transport plate and insurance for 168 Euros per month, however I cannot bring the car back to Germany, it is only a plate for transportation, however it is good for all of Europe and even good for going into Africa.

I am loss though for the title, and making sure it is in my name, my gut tells me that I should just come and buy the van, find a place to store it, then when I buy it there will be more problems then I expect. Everyone keeps giving me this excuse that I am not a citizen here and I cannot buy a car.

I keep saying,
"If I purchased a factory here in Europe, (Germany) and I purchased a Home to live in for a few months a year, they would let me buy a Car. This has to have something to do with getting a work permit, I am going to go to the American Embassy or find people living in Europe from America that have purchased a car, this is not a strange problem, even some of the legal people from Turkey have the same problem

Sites to buy cars.

Tuttlingen to Frankfurt by Train

Tuttlingen to Frankfurt by Train

Today I travel from Tuttlingen to Frankfurt by train, I will leave around 8:00 AM and arrive in Frankfurt around 12:00, it is really not very far, however the cost is 60 Euros, or about 70 Dollars U.S. This is a great amount of money to me; I have trouble spending this amount of money for transportation when in 80 percent of the planet it would cost me 6 Euros, hard to feel I am getting any value for my money. Now with the Easyjet.com plane I can fly to England or go a long distance for this amount of money. I am learning to understand why people like the trains; they are quiet, comfortable and painless. I do not see as much or the culture as I do in a bus, however they are the most comfortable way of traveling I know of, and I can read on the train because I do not get motion sickness as I do on the bus. However, I still want a van or motor home desperately to travel in Europe.

Germany is a good feeling for me; it does feel like home many times, the only strange part is the beggars, people from Turkey and the number of drunks in the park. If they did not have these people, stop talking German and gave up the sausage, I would be home. I suppose the homes are different, however all I feel is the cultures of the world, I feel as though I am now able to ignore most distractions like buildings, road, dirt etc.

Sabine and I went to a German Birthday party last night last night for her sister’s boyfriend; he was turning about 37 years old. I was impressed at the manners; all the persons that entered shook my hand, told me their names, and made me feel a part of the group. This is unusual on the planet, I do not think this is a rich group, this is a normal run of the mill level of people, and in fact, most of them ride motorcycles like many of my friends in my home town of Orland. The remind me of my friend Scott and Sheldon, Brad etc.

The were drinking beer, making joke, teasing each other and laughing, all were married or had a mate so more or less all were adults and responsible people. All were having fun and feeding me sausages.

Sausage, Hot Dogs wrapped in Bacon, some type of Pork Steak I think, Sour Kraut, Lettuce and I think she called it Grilled Pita Cheese, a big loaf of French bread and we had a cook out. They have mustard that is sold in a tube that looks the same as a toothpaste tube. I enjoyed listening to them speak in German, the intonation, the happiness, the friends who know each other and know how to make fun and enjoy life as good friends.

The longhair Rock Singer, type Motorcycle person who had a birthday was fun, he teased the more money-orientated man all the night and they were friends. They all were laughing about my pictures of Seitingen from a year ago and said every time they travel to Seitingen they now see it different, it somehow is more beautiful.

Seitingen is where my friend lives and is for sure the place a place I wish the whole world could live, I am so very lucky to live in a place on the other side of the planet that is a brother to this city. Peace and ease of life is everywhere in Seitengen, they live in comfort.

Hobo Business

Hobo Business
7:46 AM Tuesday August 2, 2005

I am trying to think about a problem, not really a big problem and a good problem if a problem is good. The television has CNN on it, an it is trying to define “New Geek” as opposed to “Old Geek.”

This is crap; they are defining a geek as trendy, paying attention to clothing fashions, way off any mark of geek in my mind.

CNN has nothing to do with my problem, I am having a problem with my Hobo business, and I am having these growing pains. The HoboTraveler.com website has created a successful business model. Here I am saying business model and for sure, this sounds like a silly conglomerate with suits, offices, and a serious day of work. I am lying on the couch of my friend Sabine and watching the TV, wishing there was any channel besides CNN to watch.

However, I do have some decisions I need to make to continue working toward my mission to create a Hobo Home on the internet, this is scary, I am going to go look at my mission for HoboTraveler.com

Hmm… I see or found my mission for travel, ok that is not the goals for Hobotraveler.com, I guess that is the problem, trying to make sure I am enjoying my life and traveling the way I wish to travel.

The Hobo web site is making demands on my time and my travels, I do not seem to care, however it is annoying to me that I have to make reservations in Europe, it is also annoying to me that I need, not really need, however want, I do not want, I really and thinking I could or should fit some trips into my around the world paths so I can talk to some people.

It is annoying that the internets, telephone, are not capable of explaining to people as well as a good old meeting of two people in a room to talk.

I am now planning to go to India, Singapore, Boston, and Manchester England to talk with people needed to run my web site, they are experts that can make my internet life easier. I need some help and sometime the internet does not get the job done. The need for a meeting where I can look in their eyes, ask probing questions and judge their levels of honesty is needed. It is highly possible the cost of having the Hobo web site goes to 600 Dollars per month very soon, it is presently at about 200 Dollars, so not a toy, and this is real.

Germany and Turkey

I am in the Internet Cafe here in Tuttlingen, Germany,

Ran by a man from Afghanistan.
Full of people from the country of Turkey, and I am sure others, however I do not get to look at their Identification Cards.

Interesting Germany after Eastern Europe, I left a white bread part of Europe and came back into a full selection of bread types. What is interesting to me is that it appears to me that life could be better in Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania, and Poland, therefore why is everyone here in Germany.

These are people coming to immigrate or live, therefore there is quality of life question be asked by all of them. This is similar to the USA, the Mexican would have a five times better quality of life if they would distribute around the whole country.

Instead it appears that most Mexicans go to Houston, Los Angeles, or Miami, then there is not enough jobs. France, Germany and England are taking a high proportion of the immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East type countries. Every person follows the person in front of them just like in kindergarten, where free thinking takes a day off.

I Buy Olympus 480 Camera

I purchased a new Olympus 480 Camera today for 200 Euros, it has a 3 optical and 4 digital zoom, I will be taking photos with this soon. The Sony I add broke, the lens just stopped going in and out, I have been using my waterproof Sony for a few weeks, the flash on it is broken. I tried to buy another of the waterproof Sonys however the camera shop says I need to go to Ebay.com. Lot of good that will do me as a traveler.

It included a 256 Meg card for the 200 Euros, what a pain in the neck.

The
http://www.prudenttravel.com

Says to buy Olympus, so hehehe, I can blame him if it flops... I am kidding, all these camera will break, some quicker than others. He said it in the comments on this page...
http://www.hobotraveler.com/2005/07/disposable-sony-camera.html

I am tough on camera, I take everywhere they say not to go, what is good though the price to play with similar quality a couple of years ago was 700 Euros, so I am way ahead of the game now at 200 Euros.

Tuttlingen Germany Hotel

Tuttlingen Germany Hotel
I am thinking too much about too stupid of problem, I am thinking about breakfast, and whether it is free or it cost. The woman or the boss, or the owners, or for sure the management of the Hotel that showed me to my room and helped me check in also showed me to the breakfast room.

I tried to ask,
“Free.”

She speaks zero English, and I speak only the “Hello” and “Thank You,” therefore both of us are only working by the idea that we both know what I am doing, I am renting a room for a couple of nights.

However this breakfast issue is making me think too much, there is this gossip or story told to me that breakfast is always included, or they must provide breakfast in Germany at hotels. This English woman in the Hostel in the Liechtenstein told me stringently, that,
“The must supply breakfast.”

Now, she is a 55 British Lady, living in Germany for 30 years, and talks to me in the manner that she knows and for sure, I do not understand how to travel. She has a subject, and the subject of the sentence could be “Hostels”, or it could be “Youth Hostels,” they are not the same, and she could mean, “Hotels.” I really cannot figure out the direct subject or target of her sentences, I have has other travelers say that breakfast is always include in Europe.

However, I can say, only about 50 percent of the time in the Hostels has a free breakfast been included, or probably less. In the Hotels along the way about 50 percent, I am clueless to decided when or when not, this seem to be a service of many accommodations, however for sure not guaranteed. It is difficult to suss out he truth in these statements, and these well-intended, self-appointed experts on all subject, and all travel issue are hard for me to refute as I have only lived or traveled in maybe about 12 of the 42 countries, and this does not make me feel confident to talk on Europe. I have been or stayed in Europe about five times, and now have lived in Europe over 7 months of my life.

Free Breakfast
A free breakfast is more of a standard in Europe than the rest of the planet, however only in my opinion maybe a 50 percent option. However, to me if you list the words “Guest Kitchen,” I would suppose a kitchen includes a “Stove.” however for sure many hostels do not see fit to include a kitchen that allows you to cook.

I would like to say I am an expert traveler; however, this self-appointed acclaim seems arrogant and impossible to tag on myself. The world is a big place, too big, I find I am not able to know everything, I think maybe I understand 4 percent of the travel world, and for sure they place dice with the rules on a daily basis. Nothing is predictable, and nothing is guaranteed, I will not trust myself to say, or use the word always in the sense of really “always.” It is only a generally, or a normally, it is never 100 percent on anything. However, for the sake of speech, I do say the word always, however for sure I mean normally.

However as the too sensitive types, or politically correct always want to say too often, too much, and with self-righteous demands in their voice.
“What is normal?”

This means that normal does not have a right to exist; however for sure there is a place for normal, life has normal things. However, in travel there is a hope of normal standards. Like maybe, here in Germany or part of Europe breakfast is included free.

Standards do not apply, I remember or think of staying the Four Star Hotels in Iraq, the Hotel I am in presently in comparison is then a Five Star, however I would say, I am in a One Star, and only a couple of the ones I was in Iraq, yes the Al Fanar was at least a One-Star Hotel in Baghdad, however the ones in Arbil or Dohuk were only zero stars.

I get very annoyed thinking about the first class bus systems in South America, which are often over-priced and racist to me, just a way to pay your way to not have to sit with Quechua people. I will not pay my way to stay away from the rabble, I want to live and eat with the rabble for the same price in life. I do not want to separate, I will pay more though for better service and quality, however not to keep myself away from normal people.

Ooops, I cannot to one paragraph without using he word normal.

I am having the problem of “Cognitive Dissonance.”

It is the torture imposed on my brain, when a person poses a question, my mind goes into over-drive, it is total lack of harmony until the question is answered, ergo Cognitive Dissonance.

Oh well, only one solution, I go to breakfast this Sunday morning, sit at the table, hold up some Euros point at the plates of food, rub my thumb and index finger, the what-I-hope-universal-hand-signal for “How much money.”

Then she will either write down the price on a piece of paper or give me a wag of the finger no. I guess the shaking of head no and the wagging of finger back and forth in German hand signals is the same as USA. I think the use is 25 percent or more German so they have not translated or change the hand signals. We use the same language of hand signals, however the word are different.

There is no need to translate hand signals between Germany and the USA, normally, however what is normal…?

This little lady is serving me my morning sausage, I do not eat sausage, however have made exceptions in Germany before, this breakfast is included and free in the Rosengarten Hotel in Tuttlingen, Germany

Yogurt and Muesli, a great breakfast, fattening however better than the Sausage, and a real treat, like eating Butter Pecan Ice Cream on top of Muesli or maybe we in the USA could say Granola, the Granola has Oatmeal, I guess, however the names bleed together.

(2) Muesli: breakfast food: an originally Swiss mixture of cereal flakes and rolled oats with dried fruit and nuts, eaten with milk for breakfast

Oops, the dictionary did not say “Yogurt.”

Breakfast is FREE and the room cost 21 Euros... Woopee what a great deal, not dorm bed, TV and a free good breakfast, this must be the imagination the folks are searching for in Germany, plue the city is full of wonderful buildings.
