Wireless Access

Wireless Access

Amazing, I was driving through Joe Blow neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana, middle class haven and nothing special.

Five access points came up...

I have been worried about traveling through the USA because it is difficult to find and internet cafe in the USA, I need access to do what I do.

This is hope... big time, I can travel around the USA and find wireless access to the internet, not as good as Asia or South America, but it will work.

Yes, wireless networks are becoming ubiquitous in the U.S. Many cafes offer them for free. Expect libraries to start doing this too.

As you noticed, many people have them at home too. Some are not secured and it is simple to connect to the Internet thru their access point.

i just got a laptop and i was shocked to discover the same thing. just driving around San Francisco you can stop your car at any point and get googlemaps on your laptop if you're lost.

but i also have a question for you, andy. you mention here that it's "not as good as Asia or South America". is there lots of wireless there as well? i ask because i'm debating whether or not to bring my laptop on an indefinitely long trip (about a year) to south america. i'll be travelling super light with basically a day pack and it may be a lot of added stress. on the other hand i'll have a digital camera and it could be great for updating my blog.

thanks for your awesome comments on everything! i'm a huge fan.

Hello,
In Asia, Central and South America, India or most of the cheap countries there is an Internet Cafe on every corner. Searching for a connection is not a sure thing, while in those other countries you can find an Internet Cafe easily.

That is what I mean about dependable, here I am working for the connections. Presently I am sitting on the bench in front of the Hostel, if it was raining, I would be back on the Windows 95. More correct I would be waiting for the one computer being shared by a hundred people.
