Just return on a government boat from Koh Phi Phi, the place is a complete mess. It looks like it will take at least 3-6 months before there is any reason to visit. They are working very slow and the outlook is bleak. There is no tourist boat we took a free government boat by being journalist. The place has 50 percent of building gone. 40 percent in need of months of work and 10 percent of them ok and running. NO water, electricity, the place is a pit, very very dirty.

There are many reasons for some to go to Koh Phi Phi and ... help. A friend lived and worked on Koh Phi Phi over the last five years. He came back home in Holland the last two weeks - although "home" was for him Phi Phi island. Now with some money he has raised with the help of many others for the local people here in Holland he goes back coming saturday. You are right - it is a pit and therefore all help is needed to get people get back on their feet again ! Boats are needed for transport in all ways - not only touristtransport. The school should be rebuild with an attachment of an orphanage... as a journalist there is a lot to write about. More info at www.help-koh-phi-phi.nl

Everyone should go to Phi Phi. Volunteers are needed every single day to help with the cleanup. The Thai government and major aid agencies have so far failed to provide any significant support. There are places to stay and people to meet, and you could not have a better or more worthwhile holiday. As for the tosser that said "So you are a journalist" get a life you sad wanker.
Then GOWhen I posted this comment, there was no living quarters. Now there may be some places to stay. Note the Island seems to be making an attempt toward Five Star places, this may not be Hobo style.Thailand is a champ at trying to get free money or work out of people. I am worried...
