LEAVING FOR TIBET TODAY AND NO INTERNET ACCESS

Hello,
I am leaving Kathmandu, Nepal for Tibet today. There is a strike tomorrow and I think we are going to leave tonight. The trip is by commercial bus to the border and by 4 Wheel Drive to Lhasa. It will take about six day and go up to 5300 Meters. All is good and do not worry. I am trying to push out the next newsletters.

Cost is about 12,000 Rupees or about 160 USA dollars for 5-6 days including lodging.

I stayed in the Tibet Peace Guesthouse and would recommend. It is the only place in Katmandu that seemed to have a good common area to meet other travelers. The place is tourist trap for the most part on the inside of the Thamel area. I recommend you walk outside.
TURN ON THE ELECTRIC HOT WATER HEATER YOURSELF
They have never done this or changed my sheets in the last 10 days. This is a typical backpacker place, but what is special is the common area and the garden. There are some Frenchie girls too, because the owner is Swiss French and the French Guidebooks always push the Frenchie places. I paid 250 Rupees a night in February. The rates jump soon, and I would try to always negotiate for any rooms in Kathamandu. The Kathmandu Guesthouse if FULL ON and EXTREMELY touristy and I would say has nothing to do with "Shoestring" Travel, but it is in the the epicenter or the Center or the Backpacker Universe in Kathmandu. Ask for this place from a taxi and then walk away. The further you walk away from this place downhill the cheaper the rooms.
