Goal: To recognize the types of problems that are normal at different price levels.

There are benefits to a room, and there are problems, this pages is to help you understand the problems.

I have lived approximately 800 Hotel rooms in my life, and have traveled perpetually for 13 years and visited 89 countries, I am a professional traveler.

0-10 US Dollars per Day - Backpacker 1-6 Month Trips
10-25 US Dollars per Day - Experienced Travelers - Less than 30 Days
25-100 -US Dollars per Day - Volunteers - Missionaries - Flashpackers - NGO - Less than 30 Days
100-150 US Dollars per Day - Tourist - Package Tours - NGO - 5-21 Days
150-200 US Dollars per Day - Business Travelers - Government Workers - United Nations - 0-14 Days
200-300 US Dollars per Day - Resort - Maybe not good at buying value Tourist - 0 - 14 Days
300-500 US Dollars per Day - Resort - Short Trips

Anything from list of Hotel problems will happen at this level, and should be allowed, at this level you need to know your personal major problems and avoid them. For example, car noise is difficult for me, so my high priority is to avoid this.

4. Receptionist Play Music or do annoying behavior.
5. Unhelpful staff
6. Animals, Dog, Cats and Chickens
7. Construction working being done at hotel or close.
8. Churches, Mosques Make Noise
9. No Electricity or Brown Outs
10. Floor Fan is Missing Plug
11. Floor Fan is Broken
12. Noise coming from plumbing or sanitary pipes as water comes down from upper floors.
13. Fan in Center of Ceiling too Slow
14. Fan in Center of Ceiling does not Work
15. Fan in Center of Ceiling only has one speed
16. Fan in Center of Ceiling Squeaks
17. Light Bulbs Burned Out
18. Transom Above Door is Screen and Noise is Loud
19. Rock and Roll Bands
20. Staff steals when cleaning the room
21. Overcharged
22. Ants
23. Mosquitoes
24. No Mosquito Net

The pivotal benefit to find at this level is screens on windows and hot water, if these two benefits are missing, you should pay less than 25 Dollars per night.

1. Screens on Windows to Stop Mosquitoes
2. Tour Buses with Large Groups Making Noise
3. Unhelpful staff
4. No fresh air because of air conditioning and you have sinus or breathing problems.
5. No way to wash clothes and none provided
6. Courtyard windows facing so you can hear TV, People in other rooms
7. Maintenance Never Done
8. Air Conditioners Blows directly at Bed or Eyes of person sleeping
9. Air Conditioner is Noisy
10. Plumbing Traps missing on Sink or Shower Drains
11. Tourist Traps that are too close
12. Group Rents the complete Hotel and makes noise or you have to move.
13. Ceiling is too High and Air Conditioner does not Cool Room
14. Remote Control on Televisions does not work
15. No security box big enough for computer or camera.
16. No booking on arrival or Overbooked
17. WIFI or Internet Access only in Common Areas
18. There is No Sign to Hang on Door Requesting Room to be Cleaned

100-150 US Dollars per Day - Tourist - Package Tours - NGO - 5-21 Days
The pivotal benefit at this level is you will have extreme quiet, peace, and all the travelers nest should be serviced.

1. No security box big enough for computer or camera.
2. Staff steals when cleaning the room
3. Tour Sales People Hanging out in front of Hotel
4. Housecleaning ignores sign and clean room when sign posted to not clean
5. Tourist Traps that are too close
6. Staff is Indifferent and Non-Caring
7. Too far from infrastructure of city
8. No fresh air because of air conditioning and you have sinus or breathing problems.
9. No way to wash clothes and none provided
10. Bums - Beggars Waiting or Hanging out in front of Hotel
11. WIFI or Internet Access only in Common Areas

150-200 US Dollars per Day
- Business Travelers - Government Workers - United Nations - 0-14 Days
The pivotal benefit to find is a Business Center and a wonderful view of something, this is the level where luxuries are prevalent, swimming pools and massage.

1. No security box big enough for computer or camera.
2. Taxis are Overpriced just outside door to Hotel and no way to get proper priced Tax
3. Staff is Indifferent and Non-Caring
4. No fresh air because of air conditioning and you have sinus or breathing problems.
5. No Scales to Weigh Luggage
6. WIFI or Internet Access only in Common Areas
7. Overcharged

200-300 US Dollars per Day
- Resort - Maybe not good at buying value Tourist - 0 - 14 Days
This is the level where there is no reason to leave the Hotel or Resort, all your needs should be met including laundry, food and communication, if you have to leave you are paying too much, this includes tours, plane tickets and money exchange.

1. Taxis are Overpriced just outside door to Hotel and no way to get proper priced Taxi
2. Remote Control on Televisions does not work
3. Mini bar scam
4. Hotel Occupied by One Culture or Country and Dominate
5. Staff Does Not Arrange Taxis
6. Sub Standard restaurant

300-500 US Dollars per Day - Resort - Short Trips

1. Remote Control on Televisions does not work
2. Taxis are Overpriced just outside door to Hotel and no way to get proper priced Taxi
3. You assumed more money was better.
4. Hotel Occupied by One Culture or Country and Dominate
5. Overcharged
6. Mini bar scam
7. Sub Standard restaurant
8. Women are told they cannot be Topless
9. Inaccurate star rating
10. People are too Old to be Fun
11. Business Center People are not Educated Sufficiently
12. No Health Center or Not Open at Sufficient Hours
13. There is no way to meet real locals, the staff constantly channels you away from common people and lie.

Over 500 US Dollars per Day - Luxury 14 Days
- This is the level where debauchery is allowed, can what you do is your moral responsibility. This is where Kings and Queens can relax and have an affair and all will be kept private. "What happens in this Hotel, stays in this Hotel." The moral standards of the country are not enforced inside the Hotel.

1. Too far from infrastructure of city
2. People are too Old to be Fun
3. Business Center People are not Educated Sufficiently
4. There is no way to meet real locals, the staff constantly channels you away from common people and lie.
5. Getting Special Assistants and Language assistants are sub-standard.
6. The customer is always right is not understood by the local culture.
7. No Place to Park the Sailboat or Yacht
8. Concierge Refuses to Arrange for Men or Women Lovers to come to Room

Hostels Have Special Problem

1. Lockers are Not Secure, and Staff Has Access
2. Forced to Leave During Day
3. Drunks Coming in and Out of Dorm
4. Staff is Indifferent and Non-Caring
5. Hotel Occupied by One Culture or Country and Dominate
6. People in the Dorm Havingg Sex
7. Staff Robs all the Lockers
8. Staff Robs Backpack Whilee forcing you to Leave for Day
9. People in Dormitory Rob You
10. Hours Open is not 24 Hours

84. Inaccurate Star Rating - (I see this as ludicrous, there is no true standard of Stars for Rooms on the planet, Stars are just an agreed upon Marketing Scheme.)

86. People in Hotel are too young to be Fun
87. People are too Old to be Fun
88. No Place to Park the Sailboat or Yacht
89. Concierge Refuses to Arrange for Men or Women Lovers to come to Room.

Addendum: of Problems

Note: Internet Access is best at the very bottom and very top, in between is a problem. Generally, a Mom and Pop hotel will provide Internet for their children, and keep it working good.

Note: Dirty Hotel is subjective, hard to evaluate, a person has to live 150 days a year in a Hotel before I could say this is an opinion worth listening too in the price range of the person.

Note: I go into Luxury Hotel and use the Swimming Pool, however seldom go in the room, and need help in this area.
