I guess your supposed to squat. There is always a bucket or a sprayer next to you.

Everyone I have entered has had this same bowl for dipping water. Normally this is how you flush the toilet

This one is elevated. It is not clear why? But I do think a person could sit on it if they wished.

The sides are rougher. I suppose so you do not slip
